Best dogs outside of NYC, hell desk dogs anywhere. May be a hole in thewall but I love their dogs.

For some unknown reason, a good hot dog satiates the wake-up-feeling-crappy gods of drinking. So after a $ 150 meal at Supperclub and still feeling unsatisfied, we hit up What’s Up Dog.(now I know how you women feel with your two-pump-chumps!) I knew that one of our cabal knows the owner so to be fair I ordered the bacon dog to compare with the bacon dog cart. It wasn’t as greasy as it needed to be. But it was still pretty good and the buns were excellent. You know I like buns, hun. The bacon dog cart is like a unicorn, you never know where he will be. I’ll be back to explore their extensive menu of sodium lactate, corn syrup, sodium phosphates, dextrose, sodium diacetate, sodium erythorbate(made from sugar), and sodium nitrite delight.

Dinner at Supperclub was so small and HORRIBLE, we all came to What’s Up Dog after wards for a round, almost foot long, porky(or beefy) goodness. I can’t really say much about this place. I don’t really like hot dogs and I was unimpressed with the one I ordered. It had mozzarella cheese and tomato sauce. Both sauce and cheese weren’t very warm. Hot dog was a bit tough. Won’t be back. Oh well.

I like how they’re open late. late as in like 2AM if you come after the clubs, you’ll love it. You’ll leave with the fattest smile on your face =D because then all of your cravings will be fulfilled just dont go home puking it all out. it’ll be a waste i tell ya.

Yum! I came here on Saturday after going to boss. We were gonna go eat Vietnamese udon… but bam right there where we parked: «what’s up dog.» We’re like… f*ck it, let’s do it. So I ordered the plain hot dog cuz I was too drunk to think about any toppings. My other friends ordered all the other hot dogs you can imagine and cool, no complaints. We also ordered the garlic fries and mini donuts. The garlic fries were fantastic, but the donuts were kinda bland and crumbly. 4 stars cuz i like the option of having a variety of wieners, a place to sit, and it’s open after clubbin. BTW there aren’t any places like this in SJ. One closed down and the other doesn’t offer all the yummy toppings and stuff.

My coworkers and I come here when we need our hot dog or sausage fix. Sometimes we get the pastrami sandwhich, a.k.a. the«artery clogger,» since it’s just heaps of pastrami, plus we get it with melted cheese. So bad, but so good. Service is friendly and quick. Sometimes, they close earlier than advertised, which isn’t good, so it’s best to go early afternoon. They take cash only, but they do have an ATM.

2AM. Hot Link. Melted cheese, pickle spears. Yes. The cash thing only is kinda weak, and I really wish they used their fryers to cook me up some wings, but those are minor, minor concerns. This is a late night drunk food emporium of the highest order. They’re also kind enough to pay me lip service about putting a «Pittsburgh Dog» on the menu — hot Italian sausage and scrambled eggs. No hangovers in the morning, Donnie Friggin’ Iris guarantees it.

i just finished wolfing down the turkey & cilantro dog + melted cheese… tasty right now… but let’s wait another couple hours. In the meantime, the«up dog» joke( ) is running rampant through the office.

Was in the area, gave it a try. Had a bacon dog, and shared chili cheese fries and onion rings with a friend. The dog was okay, bacon was cooked too long, was burnt and chips off when you take a bite. Chili cheese fries were good. Onion rings was burnt. Wasn’t a busy time, was there around 2:30pm. Two dogs, and two sides, ran about $ 18.

When I first moved to the city, I saw What’s Up Dogs everywhere but didn’t have the time to actually stop to check out a menu to see if they had anything for vegetarians. But when I did stop and look at the menu, I was excited to see they had two veggie dog options. Let’s be honest – What’s Up Dog isn’t reinventing the wheel. They are using packaged Tofurky dogs you can buy at just about any supermarket in the Bay Area. That said, I think they picked the right product for the task. I have always opted for the Kielbasa(if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it), and I find it pairs perfectly with the deliciously warm bun, spicy mustard, ketchup, relish and some onions. While I’m not a sauerkraut eater, I have no doubt that if you are, you’d be satisfied with the Kielbasa as well. All those toppings are included in the price of a basic hot dog, which ends up being $ 3.50 for the Tofurky. If you’re not vegan, you might be interested in the North Beach dog with the Italian Tofurky dog. It’s smothered in sun-dried tomatoes, mozzarella and Italian seasonings. The New Orleans Style preparation also looks a delicious vegetarian menu option. Whether or not you’re vegetarian, I think you’ll find What’s Up Dog to be quick, friendly, delicious, and cheap.

I work in SOMA and am not far from some of the best restaurants in town… Bacar, Coco500, Two, Ducca, Ame, BongSu, etc. Yet sometimes a guy just wants a dog and luckily I’m close to What’s Up Dog as well. Every few weeks I mosey on over and grab a Louisiana Hot Link and cover it with spicy mustard, settle up on a stool and watch 10 minutes of whatever movie they’re pumping in on their DirecTV box to their antiquated, barely watch-able TV.(You haven’t lived til you’ve watched The Matrix in smudge-o-vision.) It’s all part of the atmosphere. The guys behind the counter are always upbeat grilling(not boililng) the dogs. They have a big color menu on the wall with pictures and descriptions of the dogs, and they carry a pretty large variety of ‘em. The buns are soft and chewy. There’s a list of toppings including Sabrett onions for all you ex-pat New Yorkers. They carry fries and one or two non-dog sandwiches. They’re keeping things simple here folks. They can seat maybe eight diners at any one time. There is no restroom for patrons(and I have it on good word that you wouldn’t want to use it if you could). It’s mostly a walk in-walk out joint. I don’t know that I’d come here late but it’s the one WUD open late. It’s comforting to know that if I want one…

Took my hungry ass to «What’s up Dawg!» to day and had the $ 3 dog… Did me right with 2 kinds of mustard and a semi crispy bun. I can see how this place would be a downright god send at 3am. Hopefully I never find myself down here at that hour of the morning although its nice to know its there if I need it. Word up!

The only thing keeping me from giving this place 5 stars are the irregular hours. They seem to be only open for lunch and late night. Now, I live across the street. For those of us who aren’t club hounds or who don’t eat lunch here, the closed sign is a big taunt on a Saturday noon, say. Great Bratwurst, just like where I grew up in Wisconsin/Illinois. Chicago Style dogs, check. Funny thing was that the roll for the bratwurst was better than the one on the hot dog. Super meal deal: $ 5 for a chicago style dog, drinks, and chips. Oh, and Cash Only, be aware.

Good, solid hot dog experience. This place is tiny(which I like), but there are a couple of places to sit and wait while they get your dog ready. You order up front and it’s cash only. Nothing really stood out — like I said, the hot dog was good, the bun wasn’t special, the condiments were standard, the fries didn’t seem fresh though. Good prices, good cheap spot for lunch in this area. I do like the name and the signage a lot.

If you live in the city and crave Top Dog, but don’t want to make the journey to Egypt… errr Berkeley, this is the spot for you. They have 10 different types of sausages you can choose from, as well as differnt toppings. You can order your dog with onions, krut, peppers, pickles, tomatoes etc. Or you can go OG and stick with just mustard + Ketchup. What’s Up Dog is almost the same as Top Dog, but personally I wish the Hot Link is as spicy as Top Dog’s. Overall, this place has everything Top Dog has, with the exception of that grumpy guy working at Top Dog. The owner here is friendly and helpful. He seems genouanly interested in getting to know his customers. I definitely recommand coming here, if you’re looking for a quick bite and a heartattack in 30 years.(they serve bacon dogs)

OK, so I came here the other day for the first time and I wasn’t too wowed, because I like my hot dogs like I like my chow mein: Bad. Well, it wasn’t bad. But I liked it anyway because it was clearly a good-quality hot dog. Anyway, I ordered onion rings with my plain hot dog(just how I like it), and they were super tasty. So today I’m running errands on my lunch break and don’t have time to sit down to eat and I think, «Hey! I remember seeing a pastrami sandwich on the menu at What’s Up Dog the other day. I loooooove pastrami sandwiches.» And it was absolutely amazing. So good and moist. If you’re a pastrami sandwich purist you might not be too thrilled about it, because it’s served on a sesame seed roll and not on rye. But damn. Hot damn.

So, you’re going to pitch«NY style dogs» to a NYer? Bring it on. What’s good: — very reasonably priced. $ 5 for a hot dog or sausage, soda and chips. — good quality. The hot dogs actually ARENY style. — lots of variety of sausages, including a veggie option. — soda options include premium sodas like Pellegrino, for a buck(!) — nice guys, efficient service — clean place What’s not: — buns are a little generic(Costco?) — tiny space and tinier kitchen. I can see this place getting slammed at times. — portuguese sausage was not the best quality or texture I’ve ever had, but props for even having it. — sauerkraut should never be served cold. heat that stuff up Overall, I like the place, and it’s become a favorite lunch spot for our work group, despite the walk. It’s no Gray’s Papaya, but that would be asking too much. What’s Up Dog? Good, cheap food in SOMA, that’s what.

So yeah, I dont know about you but I often find myself staggering around the SOMA ears pulsing from thick beats at random nightclubs. What else than a quick fix. I mean, I have to perpetuate this drinking somehow. Sustinence. Good. This little shop is the bomb diggity. A little haven if you will. They have a great variey of dogs that I havent even heard of before. Great sides and a great staff. Best of all, easy to spot in a drunken haze.

The difference between this location and the other WUD’s around town: this is the LATENIGHT one. Open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10pm-3am. Post-clubbing munchies, here we come. I had my first experience at WUD the other night after attending the 1-year anniversary party at Supperclub. It’s located on the same block, and boy, is it convenient. I kept it simple and ordered the regular dog with shredded cheddar. Hubby had the chili cheese dog. We split the fries. The quality of the hot dog was very good. On a good dog, the casing should go «snap» when you bite into it, and mine did just that. The bun was toasted and the amount of cheese was generous. Was it the best hot dog I have ever eaten? No. But it was definitely good and hit the spot. The fries were just ok — I would seriously eat another hot dog before getting an order of fries again. Corn dogs were not available yet — wahhhhhhhhhh! So I will have to go back to try one of my favorite summer-carnival treats. The service was efficient and friendly, and while I would not make this a destination, I would definitely stop back for a midnight snack. See you in the wee hours, folks! UPDATE9⁄21: The corn dogs ROCK. PLUSONESTAR!
