CLOSED. Tough location against Saigon Sandwiches just a few doors away, and full-service restaurants less than two blocks away where you can get a full meal for under $ 10. Sorry to see it go, but $ 7 for two hot dogs in this area is just plain over the top.

I passed by and saw a sign for the hapadog, a Japanese inspired hot dog. The hapadog: 100% all beef hot dog topped with nori(seaweed), furikaki, grilled onions, wasabi mayo, and pineapple teriyaki sauce. $ 1 of this $ 5 something hot dog is donated to Japanese earthquake relief. This hot dog is really good. You have to try it. The flavors marry well together! The man behind the counter is super friendly. He saw that my 2 friends and I were sharing one hot dog and he brought us an extra plate. So sweet of him.

What’s Up Dog on Larkin is a WUD with a BIGHEART! For a limited time, for each HAPADOG purchase, WUD on Larkin will donate $ 1 to Japan to help them rebuild from the devastation of the tsunami and earthquake. So, what is a HAPADOG? I am assuming that Hapa Dog is probably the long-distance cousin of JapaDog in Vancouver.(I haven’t had JapaDog.) It was presented to me nicely cradled in red and white picnic wrapper. It was made with such care and looked very appetizing: TOPPINGS: The toppings for Hapa Dog are: www.yelp.com/biz_photos/c6WDuAmGrDFn7rf64MgFYg?select=rjbYcOkdUOJbfJRL0-e0bw *Nori Shavings *Furikake *Wasabi Mayo *Teriyaki Pineapple Glaze *Caramelized Onions I was a little nervous when I bought my Hapa Dog with veggie dog. I thought«if this does not taste good, at least it is for a good cause.» My Hapa Dog was really tasty! The combination of spicy kick from the wasabi mayo, sweetness from the teriyaki pineapple glaze, seaweed flavors from the nori and furikake and savory from caramelized onions were awesome! They complimented each other. You can choose any dog you want and I bet the beef dog would taste really, really good with these toppings. I hate veggie dogs but I have no choice since I stopped eating meat. MORETOPPINGSPLEASE!: Next time I’ll ask if I can pay extra to get extra toppings since I want my Hapa Dog to be drowning in the yummy wasabi mayo, pineapple sauce and seaweed. NORTHERNJAPANRELIEFFUNDDONATION: As soon as I paid for my HapaDog, the owner thanked me for making a donation and handed me a «Relief, Recovery, Rebuild» button from the Northern Japan Relief Fund. I proudly wear this button with my work badge. SERVICEWITH A HEART: And this guy practices what he preaches when it comes to kindness. I have seen him treat the hardened population of the Tenderloin with much respect and patience. When my order took a few minutes longer since he caramelized the onions from scratch, he told me «Can you please do me a favor? Help yourself to chips and drinks while waiting.» What a nice guy! DECOR/MENU: The What’s Up Dog at Larkin is not as shiny as other WUD but it is clean. It has a couple of comfy red faux leather diner style booth to eat your meal. Other items on the menu aside from the different dog combos are non-dog sandwiches and Mitchells’ Ice Cream. This WUD has won my heart! Tab: $ 5.43 for Hapa Dog.

My boyfriend and I were looking for a place to eat some chili dogs in the city and found What’s Up Dog on Unilocal,so we decided to try it. We tried the Chili Cheese Dog and the Four Cheese Dog. They were definitely amazing and satisfied our taste buds. The Bacon Cheese Nachos were also great as well! We are definitely going back to this place to try the other dog choices they have! Really great workers there as well, especially Alex. He is very helpful and polite. There’s nothing better than great food and great workers that accompany you!

This location has been a revolving door for all previous eateries, from sandwich shops to warmer tray food type places. Hopefully this WUD location can do better, good luck! Lots of menu choices: assorted sausages, sandwiches(pastrami, tri-tip, pulled pork, chicken, tuna melt, meatball), milkshakes and Mitchell’s ice cream. Currently they have several specials. All sandwiches $ 4.99, ¼ lb. sausages $ 2.99, free drink and chips with any hot dog purchase. Service is very pleasant. Hours: Mon-Thu 10:30am-7pm Fri 10:30am-8pm Sat-Sun 11am-6pm

Watch out Burger King, your«Have It Your Way» slogan is in danger of being rightfully stolen by What’s Up Dog. Their hot dog takeover of SF continues. As with any WUD establishment, here you’ll find an extensive selection of dogs, your choice steamed or grilled, and an array of condiments to make it your personal work of art. And it all comes cheaper than you’d expect. Bonus at this location: being offered chips or a drink for being kept«waiting». And by waiting I mean 5min. And by 5 stars I mean What’s Up Dog.

Nestled between a laundry mat, an apartment building, and a bar on one side, this place delivers what you want for a lunch spot. I work near by on Van Ness so anytime a new place opens up me and my usual lunch time henchmen notice new places to hit up for lunch. Overall the place is clean since its new. Fresh paint coats the walls so it still remains a brilliant white, not so much like the other places to eat in the area for this price range. A few tables and seats, even a few booths, line the front of the restaurant and even some closer to the middle and the back of the place. Floors and table tops are clean and well kept. Everything feels and looks good. The food is just as you expect it to be for a hot dog, but with a special pizazz, and a bunch of their own takes on them. Full of flavor, unique, but the bottom line… good. They offer a few sides as well such as nachos, chili, and other things that will compliment the dog. Definitely will be back to help break the monotony of lunch spots in the area.

Walking down the street and suddenly I see, Oh wow! No way! Can this be? Dark inside, but the sign was clear. What’s Up Dog will now be here. This location will be much popular. But then something struck as oddly familiar. Thought long and hard about store number 528 And then I remember this was a place I once ate. Au revoir WOW Deli, you left so sudden. Wish I was there to visit more often. But guiltily, I’m excited about the replacement. And hopefully they will soon open this establishment.
