Zee Appliance

I had fully expected to give Zahir/​Zee Appliance a 5 star rating, but in the end it cost me a lot of unnecessary time and money. To his credit, I heard «ticking» on my gas cooktop and could find no one to tell me if it was dangerous or not. Zahir came by within an hour and told me it was fine, nothing to worry about. I was so grateful I decided to hire him to help me replace my oven and cooktop. Big mistake. Zahir is a very nice man but, to start, there are language issues. Over time I realized he wasn’t understanding me, and his responses became less and less logical.
I paid him $ 200 just to check and make sure that what I ordered was correct for my space, and to «install» the two items when they came in — which he kept assuring me was «very easy» — «they just slide and drop in.» He also assured me that he had measured everything carefully and that what I ordered would fit perfectly. I even saw him take out a measuring tape. First the oven came and, although he didn’t tell me it wasn’t done right, after he left I could see that it was put in very crooked. Then, when the cooktop came, he emptied my cupboards without asking, spent a lot of time fussing around in the kitchen, then casually told me that the cooktop didn’t fit. He couldn’t help because it required cutting into the Corian countertop and he didn’t do that sort of work. I had to pay another individual $ 250 to fix what he had left, and the whole time the person kept saying «what was this guy thinking?»
I really debated giving this review, I don’t like to hurt anyone’s business. But this was a case of someone taking on a job they clearly didn’t know how to do — and not saying so at the start. And it was a simple task. In the end, neither item fit the space properly, and neither item was installed properly. I finally decided that it was important for other people to be warned. He may be (is!) a very nice man, but he is not a good vendor for choosing, buying or installing appliances.
I do want to thank him again for coming by the first time — not just anyone would do that. I was afraid there was a gas leak and his assurance that it was routine and would go away helped assuage my concerns.
