Best Hong Kong style café in sgv. Chinese food is as good as their western food. Its been thru ups and downs in past few years. I’m glad finally it settles and the new owner bring the best wonton I ever had in la. Their western dishes r very good for the prices too!

Been coming here for years. This is my favorite place for Hong Kong style food. Service is good. And the outdoor patio is nice. If you come during lunch time you get a free drink. I usually get the chicken steak. Very crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Pairs well with the black pepper sauce.

The Hong Kong style wonton noodle was as good or may be even better than what you can get in HK these days. Many run of the milk noodle places in HK no longer serve this kind of noodle anymore. They would opt for ones that can be cooked quickly thus too soft and no good. The noodle restaurant in the HK international airport is one example. Anyway, the menu includes many curry dishes which are my favorite. Lunch Manu prices are average. Many Cantonese speakers here. Don’t expect a quiet place as everyone seems to speak to a point which everyone at near by tables can hear. One curious thing: I saw three monks with DSLR cameras eating lunch here. I thought they serve meat dishes only.

They’ve changed! A lot! Sadness. Granted, it’s been years since the last time I was back here, but the menu has been greatly downsized, the flavors are different but not that great, and it just wasn’t worth it to come back. There’s other places to go for similarly priced but much tastier, same style food. Sad, cause I miss their eggplant clay pot dishes, which were really great!

Original chef is gone! Nothing compared to 1 month ago. Water tasted like beef wonton soup noodle. MSG curry rice. Awfully thirsty after meal. Chewy egg noodle n beef. Worse Hk style café ever! Waiter said chef forgot to put favor n exchange our soup noodle. But still as bad as the first one. Chef just added salt to the soup!

Been here a couple times already because it’s in a convenient location. Great place to get some soup, noodles, or even Hainan Chicken rice. Honestly, I think the Hainan Chicken here is better than the ones at Savoy. And I feel like the portions are bigger here. Servers are nice and quick to service you. Free refills on your Iced Lemon Teas. Cash only though.

I came here for dinner with a friend and we were super hungry that we definitely ordered a lot of food, but the portions are huge so there will be leftovers! We ordered: 1. Bacon cheese fries — so good! Huge portions so definitely great for sharing 2. Chicken basil pasta — this one tasted decent. I’ve had better but the basil and chicken was good with the pasta noodles 3. Pork chop curry rice — flavorful and a great choice to try. I could barely finish it so I took it home as leftovers Service can be kind of slow, which is a bummer. However, the food here is decent if you’re craving for some comfort Asian food. Plenty of parking.

Not sure what happened to this place but the food doesn’t taste as good as before. They changed their menu and staff. I use to love the chicken steak with spicy garlic sauce but this time when I went the sauce had no flavor and tasted very bland. The portion and display was good but the food doesn’t taste good. On top of that, since we weren’t all that satisfy with the food we only left a 10% tip which is normal for a Chinese restaurant during lunch time. But to our surprise the waiter confronted us about the 10% and gave us dirty looks as walked out of the restaurant. I also forgot to add, back in February I went there to eat and ordered the curry chicken. The chicken in the curry came out half cooked. I ended not eating the whole thing and later that night had a stomache. I wanted to give this place another try since this has always been my go to place for the past 8 years in Los Angeles. But after today meal I won’t be going back there anymore. And lastly for those who usually go there for lamb shank. They no longer have this on their menu. It was my boyfriends favorite. I guess the only place to get yummy affordable lamb is at Garden Café in Arcadia! Even the chicken steak at Garden taste better.

Solid, standard fare Chinese food. PARKING: they have their own lot, so that’s really convenient. TAKEOUT: order ahead of time and it takes about 15 min. Super punctual and efficient. SERVICE: The service isn’t the greatest which is why there’s one star deducted. In addition the place has a B health rating so not the cleanest either, but you come here for the food more than anything! FOOD: generous portions and reasonable prices! My mom loves the braised short rib with black pepper sauce here and one of my friends got the stir fried noodles with veggies. They’re not great for vegetarians but good if you’re looking for a good Chinese food fix :)

Always nice to come here. I think I’ve become a regular. 4 stars for one time they accidentally put our order on to go instead of dine in and we waited for a while, but the waiter told us the meal was on the house. I’ve rarely seen this happen and the waiter or manager kept their word; 5 star. Check out my other review for shi hai to see what I mean. Foods always good here especially the curry

If I’m in the mood for tons of lemon iced tea and something to eat on the side, Tasty Choice is where I come. I’ve only been for lunch and each time, I order something like their filet mignon with tomato rice, eat part of it and take home the rest, and spend my time enjoying multiple refills of their lemon iced tea. I don’t know why, but I really like their lemon iced tea. You can also order it light on sugar — just let them know! They do have a menu with lunch specials that include a drink(such as the lemon iced tea I keep talking about, coffee, and some other choices). The lunch special is expansive, but in a way limited(my filet mignon with tomato rice is not on there). I did enjoy the baked pasta with minced beef off of that menu and got the lemon iced tea included. Yay! And plus, each order comes with soup. Parking should be no issue here. There’s a pretty large parking lot that’s shared with Embassy Billiards Club. If it’s super full, there is street parking. They have both indoor and covered outdoor seating, both of which can seat large groups with no problem.

Beef short rib with tofu comes in a delicious sauce. The meat is cut in cubes. The tofu is very soft and melts in my mouth. Price has increased to $ 9.75. The sauce has corn starch lumps. Vegetable soup and lemon ice tea are included in my lunch entrée.

Can’t go wrong with this place. The food here is tasty, filling, and reasonably priced. I highly recommend the Baked Pork Chop Fried Rice and Hainan Chicken Rice. Parking is easy to obtain. Service is satisfactory. They could do with some more comfortable seats, though …

I checked their top 5 most popular dish, and tried #2– the Hainan Chicken. The Hainan Chicken is definitely not as good as Savoy. It’s not even as good as Bahn Mi Che Cali, and that isn’t even a Chinese place. I ordered the regular one. You can choose all dark meat for a little over a dollar more. It came with several skin on, boneless pieces of dry white meat, and one piece of moist bone in chicken. The rice doesn’t taste like Hainan rice. It is dark, like it was flavored with soy sauce or something. The ginger oil is on the bland side. The chili oil is a bit better, with a buttery taste. I just got the chili oil from the table, and used that instead. The prices are also slightly more than some Chinese cafes nearby. I tried a bite of the fried chicken wings, which were actually good, and my husband liked his Chicken Steak. He got two large pieces of chicken steak with that meal. Also, the meals come with complimentary soup, but it only comes with a free lemon iced tea if you check in on Unilocal or Facebook, which we did. I would probably come back and try something else next time. I’m curious about their Curry Beef Stew.

Service is decent. Food is good. Hadn’t had Hong Kong style wonton noodle soup in a long time, and their wontons are done right, giving you lots of flavor when you bite into one. Nice balance of ground pork to shrimp ratio, and you can really taste the shrimp. Noodles are nicely on the chewier side, and the broth was spot on – very flavorful without being too salty, and definitely did not have MSG in it as I did not experience an side effects of MSG. My order was actually beef brisket noodle soup with wontons added(3 for $ 2). I had a taste of the seafood curry, which is good, with a good amount of seafood(squid, shrimp, bay scallops) in it. I also tasted the herring roe seafood fried rice, which was very tasty. The saltiness of the roe enhanced the flavor of the fried rice as well as providing some textural contrasts to the dish. Love to come back and just have a simple order of wonton noodle soup.

After having a baby, my priorities have changed. When it comes to eating out w/a baby, I need something quick, easy & good. Tasty Choice is all of the above. I frequent this place for the baked pork chop rice and the hainan chicken noodle soup. Other great options are the curry beef and wonton noodle soup. The food comes out quick and I’m in and out within 20 – 30 min. There’s a parking lot with abundant spaces. Everything is so easy, and it is definitely kid friendly!

Craving for Hong Kong café food, I decided to come here for my lunch break. I’ve always passed by this restaurant a number of times, and I finally had the change to try it. Not going to lie, I enjoy going to Hong Kong cafes, so marking this off the list kind of made me feel somewhat accomplished. The restaurant is quite small. There weren’t a lot of customers when I went, which was good for me since I didn’t have that much time for lunch. I’m not quite sure how popular this is or if it was an off time since it was Monday late lunch? Right when I entered the restaurant, I was seated right away. Just merely seconds after I sat down, a complimentary bowl of soup was placed on the table. The red soup was filled with diced carrots, cabbage, celery, and chicken. Compared to other Hong Kong cafes, it didn’t carry that huge of a tomato flavor, but it wasn’t as salty. When you check in on Unilocal or Facebook, you get a free lemon tea. The lemon tea here is definitely different than what I’m use to. There’s just something about it that tastes off in comparison to the iced lemon teas that I’ve had. But it’s free so…(shrug) At Hong Kong cafes, my typical order is the baked bolognese, and being at this restaurant doesn’t mean I’m going to steer myself away from being a creature of habit. Here, they call it the baked minced beef pasta. Different English translation from the Chinese characters, but still all the same. The dish size is huge. I could pretty much serve myself pasta about 4… maybe 5 times(depending on the«serving»). It’s one of their top dishes; I mean there’s a thumbs up next to it on the menu, so it’s supposed to be good, yes? Yes, it’s actually pretty good. Quite the delicious lunch. It’s a good price for what it’s worth. However, I was very sad when a fly decided to touch my food. RIP pasta(cries), I will remember you forever. Service here is good; they’re quick and super nice, which is good especially for someone who’s in a rush! :)

Hong Kong comfort food. I’m not exactly sure what that really is but Tasty Choice is supposed to be the place to get this. I came with my parents per my parents’ suggestion since they’ve been hearing commercials on the Asian radio. I’m always skeptical when restaurants start advertising. Are they really just trying to spread the word or are they not doing well? I’m not sure but I was underwhelmed. They didn’t do anything necessarily wrong but they also didn’t do anything right either. The menu is pretty small compared to other Cantonese restaurants but I guess they stuck to the basics since they are a comfort food place. We ordered the beef stew lo mein, curry beef stew, and kabocha spare ribs hot pot. I checked in and also got their lemon iced tea. First, they start you off with some soup. OK tasting. Reminded me of the red vegetable soup(borcht) you would get at Chinese cafes but without the tomato paste. Nothing special. First came the lo mein. A plate with fatty pieces of beef stew swimming in a sea of beef stew sauce. Next to this is a bowl of soup also floating over this beef stew sauce. It wasn’t what I expected and it seemed like there wasn’t much care into making this dish. More of a scoop and serve. The curry beef stew was next and although it was a huge bowl of curry, the curry wasn’t necessarily flavorful. Had a bit of kick but nothing compared to other curries I’ve had. The kabocha and spare ribs was supposed to be in a clay pot(Well at least I thought according to the Chinese name but it came out in a bowl… The kabocha was decent. Right texture. The spare ribs were lean but the sauce didn’t fit. It was like the marinade that the spare ribs were in with some add corn starch to thicken. It just didn’t work well together. Kind of bland so I just ate most of the kabocha. The lemon iced tea was not that I expected either. Not like other lemon iced teas at other cafes. They must use some other type of flavored tea which makes the drink not what I would expect from a Hong Kong café. Finally, they use Square for their credit card payments so expect to be presented with an iPad to sign your name. Also, be prepared to add tip using the Square app as well. When we were paying, the waiters ensured that we knew that there was a tip option at the top of the signature bar.(Passing by just to give us a reminder) I’m not sure how I feel about that. I know waiters work on tips but they should know that we are aware that we should give a tip. Will I be back? Probably not. Others seemed to enjoy their meal and time but it didn’t fly for me…

Solid Cantonese café style food. The wontons are the best in the area. Baked pork chop fried rice is tasty as well. Prices are reasonable and you get a free ice tea with a Unilocal or FB check in, every time. There’s a hint of passion fruit in the tea. Whichever dish you pick, your choice will be tasty indeed. Portions are big so there will be leftovers. I would recommend getting two dishes for three people or three dishes for four if you don’t want to bring home anything.
