Sad to learn that Vegetarian Wok has closed, many of their dishes’ quality were as good or better than their competitors in the area. The vege fish w/brown sauce was uniquely prepared and had a distinct flavor that stood out from the rest. From what I understand, the owners are taking a much needed break from the business and hopefully they will consider returning in the near future. Best of luck and thank you for all of the great years.

What a bummer that this place closed… They had the coolest vegetarian dishes here. Every typical Asian dish you could think of, they had it here but with mock meat. It was pretty funny. =P Vegetarian kung pao chicken, beef steak, fish filet. I used to take friends here just for kicks…=( I guess they had too small a customer base to serve.

Every mothers day, fathers day, birthday, etc., our family of vegetarians come here to feast. It’s dissapointing that they are closing up at the end of this month. It’s a shame, because they’ve been opened for almost two decades now(combined with their old location). The restaurant is always busy with the owner always running around delagating, serving, etc. It’s a crazy world in there if you aren’t used to busy Chinese restaurants. General tsos chicken is my favorite. It’s basically a fried mushroom covered in a thick sauce. The fried mantou is also super delicious.

This place is really really delicious for a vegetarian place, and the prices are awesome too. I recommend coming for lunch as they have the Lunch Special where prices are fair, and it comes with either rice+hot and sour soup or green bean porridge+steamed or fried man tou(a bun). I’m usually here with my dad, and between the two of us, we order 3 dishes.(We always take home the leftovers). I highly recommend the Basil and Kidney, which is basically basil+mushrooms+soy nuggets(shaped to look like kidney looks). I also suggest #1 or #2, they’re both«three ingredients»(one with black bean, and one just regular brown sauce)– 1. shrimp(reminds me of a fishball — shaped and colored like a shrimp) 2. chicken(tofu) 3. squid(i’m pretty sure it’s a bean product, but yes, chewy and looks like squid!) and all with broccoli I also recommend the fried chicken(fried and flavored gluten balls) and the spicy fish(bean curd wrapped in seaweed and fried with a spicy bean sauce). Oh, and if you just want veggies, the veggie dishes they have are SOGREEN and so fresh. They speak mandarin, but if you’re cantonese, they understand that too. And I’m pretty sure they can speak english too, so don’t fret! :) Parking is a breeze. There’s a lot underground in the back and there’s always plenty of space. Really, i see nothing wrong with this place. DEFINITELYGOTRYITOUT! (this place isn’t as greasy or as salty as a lot of other places i have tried. you will definitely not regret trying this place out!) on a side note: i had read a review where they dont give out to-go boxes after your meal. but. THEYDO! I’ve done it so many times! weird…

I love the food here despite it being pretty oily. My favorite is the General Tso«chicken.» I’ve only come here for lunch and it’s like 5.50 — 6.50 per ‘combo’ which consists of an entrée and either steamed/fried mantou with porridge or rice and soup. The first time I came, I had rice and soup(I think it was hot and sour soup?) and the second time, I had steamed mantou with porridge(in the porridge, they add in mung beans, tastes pretty good IMO!) You can substitute the soup for porridge so that you have rice & porridge, but rice & mantou is not allowed. The price is actually pretty cheap and the food is filling. The restaurant is pretty big and if there’s ever a Buddhist holiday where people eat vegetarian, you’re gonna have to wait a super long time to get a seat… But it’s worth it if you want to put up with slightly rude waitresses. The last time I went, the food was great but the service sucked. Went with my aunt and we ordered for ourselves first since we were famished and had other relatives join a bit later and we added on another combo. There was four of us and like someone else said, they do charge a fee if there are less combos ordered than patrons at the table. We were fine with the fee if the waitress wasn’t so rude about it though, she kept saying loudly ‘WE’REGOINGTOCHARGEYOUMORE, WE’REGOINGTOCHARGEYOUMORE B/C YOUONLYORDERED3FORFOURPEOPLE.’ It’s like wow, calm your tits. In the end, we ordered another combo(which is what it seemed like the waitress wanted) to get her off our backs. I don’t really want to come back again after that experience, but we’ll see. Would have given five stars for the food, but the waitress made it lose two.

The food actually tasted pretty good. I visited with party of 2 and ordered Vegetarian Beef and Broccoli, Vegetarian Shrimp and Broccoli, Kong Pao Vegetarian Squid, Sweet and Sour Vegetarian Pork, and a Mushroom dish. They were all pretty tasty. I would go back there again for sure. One thing that puzzled me when I visit these type of vegetarian restaurant. Why do they make vegetarian food that look like meat dishes?! Isn’t that defeat the purpose of being a vegetarian? So, eat meat is not ok but eat the look alike is ok… I don’t get it. haha

I came here after seeing the reviews on Unilocal and wanted to try something different. My, were we disappointed its not on the walls and not in the reviews but if you eat here you must order as many dishes as people sitting the waitress said. We ordered 2dish for 3 people and she said either we order another dish is pay the $ 2 per person at the table. We were so hungary we just stayed and ordered. Then when we were ready to go and asked for a container they said no togo on the food you eat at the restuarant. It was so weird, it wasn’t all you can eat so no container didn’t make sense. We just left it didnt want to deal with them anymore. The food was ok but the service is an A+ on please do not return.

Yes most of the dishes can be oily but that’s standard for Chinese vegetarian places. My sister in law first introduced me to this place and love it. Even my hubby who LOVES meat likes it here too and finds the food satisfying. We even hosted a family dinner here before and everyone enjoyed it. Some faves: String beans, Collard greens w/tofu, Five spice tofu, and the fake sweet and sour pork which is really taro.

As the reviews say, this place is kinda oily, but I have to say it’s common that Chinese veggie places are pretty oily – how else are you going to get full? On rice? They had the standard selection of fake flavored meat: fish, chicken, kidney, shrimp, etc. Kidney and Basil was definitely the tastiest and most aromatic dish. I got the vegetarian version of General Tso’s chicken and expected soy protein, but alas it was just deep fried mushroom with that yummy sweet and savory sauce. Not Chinese according to this TED talk:

My friends and I dined around lunch time so they had the specials. Great pricing! We ordered about 5 entrees and it ended up being only 30 bucks between us 4. We had: –eggplant with hot sauce: great dish! The perfect texture. –sweet and sour pork: not actually pork, but taro. My first time trying something like this. Didn’t enjoy it very much. I felt like it was just a mess of sweet sauce on some fried taro. –bamboo: mediocre –tofu: forgot what the sauce was but it didn’t stabbed out for us. –squid with satay sauce: taste like squid. Mushrooms were tender and delicious. Service was okay. I felt like they ignored us because we were young. Boo.

I LOVETHISPLACE. Sadly, there are only a few people in this world that would ever go with me. Most of my friends and family members are die hard carnivores. Even then, out of love they manage to make it out of their cozy homes and dine with me. This is the only place where I can manage to finish all my food and plus some. Oh, may I suggest going during lunchtime because one entrée comes with rice and hot/sour soup(or) congee with steamed/deep fried bread. My favorite entrée is vegetarian fish with hot bean sauce. It is such a savory combination with rice and deep fried bread. Among other things, what I love the most about Chinese Vegetarian Restaurants is the bizarre names on the menu. However, those who are not accustom to eating brains, intestines, kidneys, and what not, do not be afraid, everything is made out of soy, tofu, flour, and vegetables. Trust me, the kidney with basil is delicious. Don’t expect wine glass with high chairs and tables made out of glass. It is not that kind of restaurant. What you get is tacky wooden fold up tables covered in pink table cloth and Chinese paintings on the walls that always seem out of place. And We all know that the purpose of these paintings is not really to show artistic appreciation, but instead some sort of class and status. In the end, I don’t really care if I have to sit on the floor to eat my food — I just enjoy the much that much.

This restaurant has lots of tables. I went here for lunch, so it was kind of empty, but my friend says it gets packed during dinner. Mostly old people come here, but dont let that discourage you! This place is a must try for chinese vegan food. Fast service, the food comes out fairly quick. Speaks english My favorite dish is the popcorn chicken. It tastes literally like chicken! The fish is made from bean curd, thats my friend’s favorite. great sauce to go with the ‘fish’ haha price is reasonable, but be prepared to eat family style!

Came here with the family to discuss some business. It’s probably my 8th time here, my grandpa had a birthday here, along with my grandma. They can easily accommodate up to 20 – 25 people with no problems. Quick service, real meat-looking food. It’s never too busy, so you’re almost guaranteed a seat. For 3 people, we got the $ 40 bundle. It’s so much food that you can take back the leftovers for 3 more people, highly recommended. Their bread is really good, it’s like the bread we’ve had at Buddhist Temples and other vegetarian restaurants. All the food looks pretty darn real, like you were actually eating meat, but just vegetarian.

Its good! If you’re young. don’t come here unless you bring an elder with you. after 30+ minutes of observation from sitting and waiting for help, i can objectively tell you Service Is Prioritized to Older Folks.

Vegetarian Wok is definitely my favorite veggie spot. My favorite item is the Deep Fried Chicken Tenders — fried to perfection. I believe they are MSG-free, and that is a huge plus for me(I used to be a huge fan of MSG, but it’s just gross to me these days). I also enjoy the Shrimp with Walnuts and the Kidney with Basil. Yummy. They have really good lunch specials too! I always get the Deep Fried Chicken Tenders with rice, and I pay $ 6.53 to go. Yay for me. I also like how they speak Cantonese AND Mandarin, so I get to practice speaking and ordering in both languages. :D

Came here this past Sunday with the family. My mommy did the ordering and I did the eating! Mom ordered: Vegetarian Honey Ham with Bread Vegetarian Chicken with Cashew Nut Vegetarian Intestine in Spicy Sauce Vegetarian Kidney with Basil Vegetarian Shrimp with asparagus I’m just so amazed that everything was vegetarian and it all looked like real meat. Everything tasted real good but I could have done w/o the honey ham. Nothing special with the honey ham dish, but damn did it look like real ham! Like most Chinese food, it was greasy. Eat fast before the oil sets and things starts looking gelatinous. Service was just okaay given that Sunday was Chinese New Years. The restaurant was chaotic but the servers did their best to accommodate everyone.

At the end of a rainy weekend visiting a friend in Los Angeles, we stopped here for dinner before I headed home to Vegas. I saw good reviews on Unilocal,so this is where we headed. The first impression was not great – their«B» restaurant rating is proudly displayed by the front door. However, a lot of seemingly crappy restaurants have A ratings, so we shrugged it off and went inside. The menu is entirely vegetarian and vegan, which is the biggest draw for me. It took a little while for our waitress to arrive, but once we ordered, she brought everything out in a timely manner. We were given a pot of hot tea, then a delicious soup made with gluten. We ordered crab spring rolls, veggie spring rolls, sesame pork and another classic Chinese dish made vegetarian. Everything was incredibly tasty and attractive. We did have to go ask for the check, but once we did, our waitress brought it over with some takeout boxes and fortune cookies pretty quickly. I’ll be back!

When I come to Los Angeles, I have to eat a meal of vegetarian food. You cannot really get vegetarian food in San Francisco like at Vegetarian Wok. I love their Pickled Green Mustard with Bean Curd Sheets. This is a very simple dish that is really light, but delicious. Goes great with the porridge they give you. The Vegetarian Kidney with Basil is also pretty good, but on the oily side. This dish has a lot of sauce so it goes great with the bread. When my family comes, we always seem to get the porridge and bread. If you don’t like vegetarian, you should really try this place. It is not like salads or greens only, but a lot of fake meat. Very good! Wish they had something like this in San Francisco
