I’ve always been told that if you’re going out of country to various Asian countries, you’ll be able to walk the streets of night markets and eat fresh, creative foods cooked on-the-spot. Though I have yet to do this myself, I would say this is probably my best guess of some of the types of foods you would find. This place is a small cart located right outside San Gabriel Superstore, but you probably won’t miss it with the long line of people typically waiting. These are little pastries made fresh, on the spot and as you wait in line, you can watch as the owner pours, spins, and fills the pastries herself. It’s quite a sight to see! For only 70 cents each, they are absolutely delicious and so worth it. They are fresh, hot, and the pastry is perfect in sweetness and softness. Buy 10 and get 1 free. Flavors available: red bean, green bean, cream, coconut, or taro. My personal favorite is cream(which tastes similar to a vanilla pudding). If you prefer no filling, you can also mention this to the owner and she is more than happy to accommodate. Do not miss this place if you have the chance to try it! I’ve grown up eating these treats and going back brought back the greatest memories.

If I could eat one dessert for the rest of my life, it would be wheel cakes. My favorite flavor is green bean. I love this dessert because it’s not too sweet. Since they are made to order, your wait time can vary. Sometimes they give me my order right away because they have it ready. But I’ve waited 10 – 20 minutes before also. 60 cents each. Buy 10 and get 1 free. It’s located right outside the door of San Gabriel Superstore. Super convenient and delicious!

They can get pretty busy, but they are worth the wait! Sooo yummy, $.60 for each one! And such a variety! The cakes taste much lighter and are cooked to perfection. The filling is not too sweet. These are much tastier than the ones they sell in Little Tokyo! Lucky me, this is just 10 min from where I live!

These wheel cakes are one of my favorite childhood snacks/desserts. I used to look forward going to the markets every weekend with my mom so I can get these!!! Yi gee is located in front of San Gabriel super store, right outside the entrance. I personally like the cream one the most, they also have red bean, green bean, coconut, and taro. The cakes taste best when they’re freshly off the grill. They’re 60 cents each and they have a deal for buy 10 get 1 free. It’s a must try when you’re around the SG area

Back in high school, my mom would go to the San Gabriel Supermarket to shop and afterwards she would bring home these circular cakes called«Taiwan Wheel Cakes» for my brother and I to eat. They are delicious and at times I binge eat on these like no other. Location: Located in front of the San Gabriel Superstore facing San Gabriel Blvd. Just look for a small cart… you won’t miss it! Service: A nice lady will ask you what flavor you want and will proceed in making you these amazing taiwanese wheel cakes. What are Taiwan Wheel Cakes? They are basically delicious snacks that are made of two halfs of dough cooked in a cup-shaped waffle pan with filling. Tip: You might be turned off by the cup-shaped waffle pan because it doesn’t look sanitary. Just bypass all that and just enjoy them. You will thank me! :) Flavors that you can choose from? Red bean, green bean, cream, and coconut. I personally like the cream flavor. For me, it’s like a state state of nirvana when I bite into one. The filling explodes into your mouth which makes you want more of it. Then you are conflicted, because your body tells you… «HOTHOTHOT». I guess it’s a love/hate relationship that I have with these wheel cakes. Tip: Make sure you let it cool down a bit, because these are made fresh. You don’t want a burned tongue.

One of my favorite things in the entire San Gabriel Valley. Not to be confused with the boba cart in front of Hawaii Supermarket by the same name, Yi Gee is a cart in front of the SG Superstore and offers up fresh che lun bing(wheel cakes). I’m seeing multiple listings for both carts under the same business page, so let’s just clarify. Yi Gee with wheel cakes= in front of SG. Yi Gee with boba= in front of Hawaii. Most of the cakes are made to order, and if not, they’re still fresh. These little cakes go bad quickly, so they are never left out for too long. The ladies working the cart definitely know this so they only make a few at a time. Smart move. So as soon as you get it, let it cool for a few minutes, and eat up when it’s at it’s peak tastiness level. You can pick between cream, green bean, red bean, and coconut. Personally, I think the cream is where it’s at. Orgasmic on a whole different level. The fillings are always nice and warm, never clumpy, and the cake itself is nice and crunchy without being too hard. This part tastes a lot like a pancake. If you’ve never had one, you need to try it. You NEED to. 60 cents for one wheel cake. Buy 10, get one freeeeeee! The same two ladies alternate running the cart day in, day out until 8pm, so show some local business a little love ;) it’s worth it.
