PROS: By far the best, the most tastiest, the undeniable best masa around??? Cal Foods! I have been eating «tamal’s» for YEARS! I am gonna say it, Auntie’s from here… GOTTA try this masa!!! Wow!!! Made to order, you can choose a bit of chili powder in it too! I wee bit expensive, BUT OH SO WORTH IT!!!

Owner is the nicest person ever and the food has been consistently the same for years: good and tasteful + their chorizo is the best: not greasy nd spicy

This place sucks !!! The fucking store owner is rude as fuck, Snobby, bitchy and has a big attitude her name is «mariah» she’s the store owner. Please many people have had bad experiences here due to her being rude and an ass to people. Don’t come here, don’t come here, please don’t come here it’s a bad store.

COCKROACH BURRITOS! I started going there for the Chili Verde burritos… it was great until I saw something that was darker than the beans and rice. When I turned it over there was a whole cockroach, legs n everything. While I was throwing up, my roommate took a pic of that **** with the receipt along side it, I added it below if you don’t believe me.

While shopping at Mi Pueblo Market nearby someone suggested I go to Cal Foods for masa in regards to my tamale making. So my hubby and I trekked out to Cal Foods. Do note the parking is super difficult in this particular area. We were able to score parking right next to the store (most of the parking in the area is permit only parking). As someone who has traveled to Mexico– this looks like your a-​typical Mexican Carniceria (meat market). When my hubby and I first walked into Cal Foods we couldn’t help but notice the most wonderful smell of Mexican food cooking. Their current menu offers burritos and tortas (mexican sandwiches) — there are no other items on the small menu. We ordered a pork chile verde burrito and it was freaking amazing– perfectly seasoned melt in your mouth delicious.
We came here in December 2010 and picked up the masa which they sell in ten pound bags (it was hot and freshly made). We also purchased the most amazing burrito and coke (in a bottle from Mexico) and cajeta candy (caramel candy). When you enter you’ll think its your average corner store but its not– with close inspection you will see many canned grocery items from Mexico. In the back of the store is the Carniceria which is über clean in a rather large case holding the freshest cuts of meats (chicken, pork and beef).
Customer service is friendly and the store is clean. The only drawback is the lack of parking.

OMG!!! The cheap eats find of all time. I was there as a merchandiser for Mars candy and was so hungry. I looked and there was a sign with a great looking double bacon cheeseburger. $ 2.69. I asked them for a single burger bacon CB and to leave off the jalapeño. So I grabbed a vitamin water and the total for both was 3.19. Best burger I have ever eaten. Juicy and perfect. On the downside, it is slow and there is NO ambiance, this is a convenience store. I make a point to go there every couple of months and grab some burgers to take home or tailgate with the spouse outside. They have some Mexican food from scratch there as well that looks good, but I cannot pass up the burger. We also pick up some good meat from the butcher counter in the back. It’s a hidden gem.
