CEFCU

My experience with CEFCU has not been very good at all. I realize there will be bad employees in every corporation but sometimes that can be an indication of the tone at the top and the company’s initiatives that drive the HR process (especially in hiring). I had an auto loan with this bank that began in June 2015. The car I had was involved in an accident. I continued to pay the loan even though the car was totaled. After 5 months of dealing with my insurance company and this bank, I had a conference call with my insurance representative and the account manager of my loan at CEFCU. They determined together that the remainder of the loan would be paid off by my insurance company after I signed off a document to release the title. The next time I talked to Sergio the loan manager at CEFCU, he was the rudest representative I’ve ever dealt with. From the start of the phone conversation he had a condescending attitude and began telling me it was my fault the loan hadn’t been paid off. After listening to his attitude for five minutes and him not offering any assistance, I realized I would literally have to walk this bank through each step of the process to make sure it didn’t get bottlenecked at CEFCU only for me to be charged more late fees and be blamed for their lack of action. Needless to say I will not be doing business with CEFCU again.
I highly suggest they take their employees through customer service, communication and personality training. Your front line employees are in contact with your customers everyday meaning they represent the company. One «reviewer”(probably an employee of CEFCU) gave an updated review saying the reviews hadn’t caught up with the merge or something. Sorry, that’s not accurate at ~6 of the reviews that are under 3 stars are within the last 5 or 6 months. I would say that’s a fairly recent representation.

I wish Valley Credit Union was still around! CEFCU’s slogan is we are better then a bank! Yea I don’t think so! I have two accounts one with CEFCU and one with Wells Fargo. One day I forgot to make a deposit to my CEFCU account and my gym membership was taken out and I got an overdraft fee. I called to see if I could get that waived and there response was no sorry we only remove one overdraft fee from your account per the lifetime of your account! Are you kidding me?! People make mistakes! If I were to call my secondary account Wells Fargo they would have either removed the fee or taken off 70% of the charge with no questions asked. So how is it that CEFCU is better then a bank?!

Well my cc was stolen and I called to report it. I didn’t have the account number so they wouldn’t take my report. Over $ 1000 was stolen. I had to go down and look at the charges then sign that I didn’t do it. I finally got the money refunded but never got a new atm card. This bank is very unprofessional in this kind of situation. The teller treated me like I was an idiot. I tried to explain to him what I felt was my charges and not my charges. He second guessed my answers and I felt like he knew more about what I did and didn’t do… real jerk. SO I JUST stated none were mine!!! JERK

Last time I used CEFCU for an auto loan was 2009. Time to purchase another vehicle. I received financing through the dealership because it was easier. Had car for two months. I filled out an application with CEFCU, (on-​line and very easy on Sunday) to refinance at a lower rate. Monday morning I received an email stating they were reviewing my loan. Monday afternoon received a call from Nehal, at the CEFCU branch on Lincoln Ave, letting me know my loan was approved and to come in Tuesday to sign paperwork. I walked in promptly at 11a met Nehal, no waiting, and was out of there by 1120a. Could not have been any easier. My rate went from 3.99 to 1.99%. I would strongly recommend CEFCU for their customer service, rates and efficiency.

I’ve been a member for a while but that was back when they were Valley Credit union. They updated the inside and it looks nice. Now the ATM is located in the front of the building, the same but much older and I hate it, and I avoid dealing with it because it is hard to see, plus just nasty. I recently moved my accounts due to annoying customer service. They have on line banking but you aren’t always near a computer. Times to wait can be long but when they do get on the phone it has been a few nasty people that either are sick of there jobs or have had too much caffeine. When dealing with MY money I’d rather just be about that, it can be frustrating and time consuming as well. Deuces!

Worse experience I’ve ever had with a bank. Had cash in hand for payment, they add a fee fine. Come back add 800 fee to that. Third time I come in on a Saturday nobody there that can accept payment. Sergio the guy I spoke to on the separate occasion is a dirt bag grade A. He would tell me whatever was convenient to move on from our convo and then add stuff the next time I saw them.

Do NOT bank here. Their ATMS are HORRIBLE! They never work, or it takes 20min for the machine to process that you’re trying to deposit money. It’s absolutely ridiculous! I would do direct deposit but in my case I cannot because of the banks process time, so if you are using it for a car loan etc, make sure you are able to transfer your funds wirelessly.

THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!! I went there to exchange 10 $ 20 bills for 2– $ 100 bills for a gift and they said no. You’re a bank, why can’t you? I’m so glad I belong to a nicer credit union and I just went here because it was on the way home. Never again will I use any of their services.

I’ve been a member of CEFCU for 20 yrs! We have always been happy with their service from our credit cards to car loans, even our mortgage. Service has always been polite and helpful. You have our dedication!

I’ve been coming to this branch and the one on Capitol for years. Capitol is closer to home but I go here when on this side of town.
Went on today, walked right in, greeted with a smile and hello in the lobby. The teller was polite, courteous and professional.
All in all I received berry good service today.
Plus there’s plenty of parking at this branch unlike the one on Capital Expwy.

I have spent many years in the auto industry. I’ve financed dozens of cars, had multiple gripes and mishaps and all kinds of stuff be promised and never delivered.
I must say that after 2 years of doing business with CEFCU and Erica Tan in particular that I am blown away. She is very responsive, professional and puts up with my constant need to ask questions.
I changed my mind like 200x during every transaction, loan and what not. She is by far the best Bank Rep i’ve come across.
From my personal loan, to my auto loan to my boat loan she is the best of the best. If you can deal with anyone at CEFCU ask for Erica she is the best.

I can see why they have a horrible rating. Their ATM would not take my hundred dollar bills (brand spanking new bills) and when I went inside, they said they couldn’t exchange it for older one’s. Seriously your a bank! You don’t have all manner of bills?!! Old and new!!! Horrible service.

They are very polite and helpful. They have great mortgage options for a home loan. There is lots of easy parking spots.

The honey and I dropped in here so he could deposit a check. Yet for some reason this location has tellers who won’t deposit checks? You have to do it via the ATM?
Maybe I’m spoiled for having Chase for so long, but I had never ever heard of this being a thing before. Seriously, the strangest of strange.
So he had to walk back outside, in the rain, and wait in line. Nice CEFCU. Nice.

Customer Service is NOT CEFCU’s Policy!!!
The worst banking experience I have EVER had. They charged me $ 200 in fees for debit card overdrafts when I had set up my account to pull money from a back-​up account that had PLENTY of money in it. When I tried to contest this they made me contact the VICE PRESIDENT to plead my case! She was a rude, short-​sighted, and self-​important cretin who accused me of trying to pull money from an empty account DELIBERATELY!!! Is that any way to treat a customer who has money in your bank?
I switched over to Meriwest Credit Union and am MUCH happier. They are much more professional and the services they provide are of a higher calibre. For instance, they keep my business account separated from my personal so that I cannot, even mistakenly, mingle accounts. Their on-​line and telephone banking is also far superior. Also, the manager assured me that if I ever felt strongly that a fee was unfair, she would remove it rather than make me unhappy. THAT’S customer service!
RUN, don’t walk, as far away from CEFCU as you can.

Just a quick little update. Everything has remained the same with this company and I have never had an issue. The DH had his card hacked twice (WTH) and both times CEFCU caught it and immediately shut the card off.
There are still no hidden fees, still pleasant tellers and Customer Service reps, and is still the best place that I have worked with that has ever held my money. I have referred a few people here because of their unhappiness with big banks like Wells Fargo and Chase.
To the reviewer who complained about fees — not sure what you’re talking about except that it sounds like he’s not a member. I have never been charged a fee for ANYTHING, especially for using the ATM.

I feel I like I have to give CEFCU at least three stars — I’m the dummy who stayed with them through the Valley Credit Union transition — wow, that was a nightmare! Since then, no problems. With that said, I’m the easiest bank customer in the universe — just need a place to keep my money, not much else. I go to the San Jose branch only on rare occasions. I’ve been a member since I was a teenager… not much to say, but they are lucky to have me as a customer.

Fees, fees, fees, fees, FEES!!! Everything costs a fee, it’s absolutely ridiculous. And accessing your old Valley Credit records? FORGET IT! They’ve lost them!
Also, why can’t I get a current balance on my ATM receipts, yet you have the audacity to charge me a fee for every transaction?
DO NOT BANK HERE! EVER!

This merger has been a nightmare! Like the previous people stated I cannot access my accounts, check my balance and use my ATM cards!!! I am so frustrated with cefcu and their lack of competence on structuring a far from
successful merger. I LOVED valley credit union and their customer service unfortunately CEFCU will never come
close to the business model of VCU. BTW, I had to specifically open a Unilocal account to let people know about CEFCU and the poor manner that they are handling accounts. Please change your slogan to, «Not a bank. WORSE!!!»

I don’t bank here, but my OC Credit Union is a shared branch of this one… so of course customer service here rocks!
Thank you Valley CU for helping me deal with my craziness after I finally closed my account with stupid ass Patelco Credit Union.
I like that this place is super colorful and full of personality too.
