Phong is gone, but new guy is friendly!
Paid $ 50 for my ’06 camry for a reg smog. Since my last name is vietnamese, he assumed I understood vietnamese (happens every now and then). Told him my family is chinese, but he was totally cool with it. I came in when they opened with 1 person ahead ahead. In and out within 20 min.

If we were to race, I would win. My boy friend went to get milk tea at Gong Cha while I went to get my smog check. I was in and out in 15 mins. I’m not even kidding. When I got home he was still waiting for his order… haha.
I didn’t make an appointment I just dropped by and as I drove in the guy immediately directed me into the garage, took my DMV paper, keys and started working. Easy and painless, it was over in a flash. This is the quickest service I have ever experienced.

I have taken my old car to DSC 3 times over the years and have always been given prompt service at a fair price. Current pricing is $ 50 for regular SMOG test and $ 60 for STAR. Last time out, the car failed for a cracked intake boot from the air cleaner to the intake manifold, tech pointed that out, I replaced said boot and passed the retest. I am a satisfied customer.

Rob, the owner, is very nice. I would recommend this shop to everyone. If you need a quality smog check whether or not it’s «star» this is a great place to bring your vehicle. I brought my Toyota Sienna here a few weeks ago and I was really impressed. I don’t write a lot of reviews but I thought these guys deserve a good five star rating for the good quality service they give.

Don’t come here. The owner is rude and not professional at all. I called an hour before they closed and ask if they would take my car and he said yes but when I got there. he said he had too many cars.

So this was the first time I tried this place and after my experience, I will never go back again. I needed to get my car smogged since I just bought my car so I tried this place that was close to where I lived. When I first tried to get my car smogged, they weren’t able to do the test because my car had an after market air intake. Since I’m not from the area, I was new to this. Basically since my air intake is not carb legal, I needed to swap it out for the stock air box. After doing research, I found out my air intake was actually carb legal but I was missing the carb sticker for it. After getting the sticker, I went back to do my test. After doing my test, I failed for small reasons. One problem was that my ground to ten jumping was not working. I took in my car for that and my mechanic said that it works fine. So the next day, I woke up early to go back to get my free retest only to find out that I had to wait for the guy I usually get my smog test from to do the retest. This Vietnamese guy I was talking to was already giving me attitude because I asked him why he can’t do it and the shop wasn’t busy anyways. He said he «can’t». So I had to leave and come back later when the guy who usually does my smog comes back. Later, I went back for my free retest and I told the smog tech that it works now and that my mechanic didn’t do anything to fix it. So he tried it and it worked. Then I failed the retest because my timing was off. I was cool about it and I told him I’d fix it when I have my timing belt changed. He also changed the date so that i could get a free retest again and he signed off on my paper. So after getting my timing fixed, I came back only to find out that apparently, my usual smog tech «quit» after going on vacation. Afterwards, the Vietnamese guy told me he would do the retest for me but I had to pay another $ 60 for the test again. I was thinking in my head «oh so suddenly you can do the retest?» But also why I had to pay for another test when the usual smog tech I went to said he’d give me another retest. Since my original smog test was on 9/​5, it was over 15 days past the free retest but my smog tech signed off on it changing the date to ⁹⁄₁₅. The Vietnamese guy was already giving me attitude again saying he wasn’t supposed to do that and I would still have to pay. I told him I’m not paying since the smog tech I usually deal with would give me another free retest. The Vietnamese guy obviously didn’t care and already started my test. I told him that if I have to pay, don’t do the test. Then he was telling me some crap I couldn’t even understand while doing the test. Don’t get me
Wrong, I’m not trying to be racist because I’m part Vietnamese myself but at this point I was pissed off. After doing the timing test, he said I failed because this time, he couldn’t find the line on the pulley for them to test the timing. Then he tries to charge me another $ 60 again. I was really pissed at that point and I just told him straight up that I’m not paying for it. Luckily at this time, the owner of the station came just in time. I told him my situation and he let me go. He tried doing the timing test himself and he said he couldn’t find it too. Afterwards I left and called my mechanic and he told me that the line is on the pulley because when they changed my timing belt, they have to line up the belt with the pulley anyways and that the smog people don’t know what they’re doing. My mechanic also referred me to someone they knew that could smog for me. So I took it in and I passed with flying colors. I had to pay another $ 75 for another smog but it was worth it. Even though this «discount smog center» was $ 15 cheaper, the service that you get is what you pay for. I don’t want to say that they don’t know what they’re doing, but they don’t know what they’re doing. And the Vietnamese guy seriously need to work on his attitude. I’m never going back to this place again.

I’m upgrading my review. We took another old car of ours here, deciding to give it another try. This time the experience was much better. The owner was there, and a different guy did the inspection compared to the last time. I don’t know if the other, overly-​zealous inspector is no longer there, but in any case, this time it was a good experience.
I also appreciate that the owner wrote a thoughtful response to my original post.

I was able to get my car immediately smogged with no wait. The price was reasonable and the tech seemed to know what he was doing.

Headed early at 8:30 when the station still closed but it was worth my wait. Mr Tri was friendly and got my car done in just 10 minutes. Highly recommended!

Just got my car smogged here. They do good work and perform every test possible and checked every thing that they could possibly check. The only draw back is that they do not owner their own coupon. They advertise a ten dollar off but they wanted to give me 5 dollar of. They finally gave it to me after some yelling and getting the owner involved. But needless to say, they do accurate work.

My experience at Discount Smog Center was fantastic! The crew had great communication with me during my visit. I shopped all over to find the best deal, and I can attest it is here! I plan to return for all of my car needs.
The owner is very friendly — and it is apparent he cares about each and every customer that walks through the door. Personally, I work in customer service and I sat and observed interactions with other customers and employees, I would rate this place a 10 out of 10. Genuine, Authentic, Friendly.

Great service. For one, the smog check took only 15 mins. I expected it to be more expensive but it was only $ 50. Also, they adjusted my audio wire because it was hitting my transmission and causing issue. Normally people would try to make money of females cause they don’t know wth to do hahaha but this place is definitely legit. Would recommend to others. 5 stars

Took a 2004 Odyssey in for smog on a Saturday afternoon. Two cars were in the garage, but we didn’t have to wait very long. Smog check was quick and easy.

I drove my car to this shop around the opening hour and saw the technician there already warming up the testing machines ready to go. I didn’t have to wait at all so that was nice. In and out around 15 – 20 minutes with no issue. The owner was also there and saw that my tires were somewhat soft so he voluntarily added airs to them without me asking. That was a pleasant surprise!
I came here for many years (Phong was the tech) but the new ownership seems quite nice. I will continue to give them my business if they keep up with this level of service.

I called late on a Saturday and asked the owner if I would be able to have my van inspected if I came by in 10 minutes. He said yes. When I drove in, he met me, drove my van into the garage and conducted a prompt inspection. Unfortunately, the van failed, but he showed me the problem and explained what I needed to do to rectify the situation. I wasn’t happy my van failed, but I have to say I received prompt and professional service.

Looks like Phong is no longer here.
I’m usually in and out pretty quickly but it took 15 minutes for the guy to get started. The new owner (I’m assuming since Phong’s certificate has been replaced by someone else) was on his cell phone the entire time. He was on a headset, and both hands were free, but he seemed to be distracted by his call.
The price has gone up even with the coupon, so expect to pay $ 50 out the door. I spent 45 minutes waiting for my car to be done.
I think I’ll find a new place next year since I ended up paying more for slower service.

Reasonable price and very, very quick. Phong is only guy there and the waiting room is very spartan, but you’re in and out and on with your day very quickly. My only gripe is that I got there on a Friday morning at 9:05am ( Unilocal says «Mon-​Fri 9 am — 5:30 pm») and had to wait almost 30 minutes before he finally arrived to open up shop. Good news is that no one was in line in front of me and I was pretty much done is 10 minutes. $ 40 out the door after the $ 10 coupon from smogitps. Accepts Visa/​MC

A very unassuming business and location but he made time for me without an appointment and little wait time. He was fast and effective. Of note, the driveway entry has a crazy incline so if you have a low vehicle or lowered vehicle beware. Beyond that nothing but happy with his services.
