not sure why this says closed. Sadly, the original owner sold this to a family member. The sign now says Gyros, Burgers and More, but it’s the same spot.

RENAMED: Gyro’s, burger’s and more I’ve driven past this place many times but finally decided to eat here today. The guy behind the counter was real friendly and even told us to have a seat and he’d bring the food to us(even though it sort of looks like a fast food joint). Anyhow, so he allows to eat first then pay which was unexpected and a bit unusual but whatever. When we got our food, the aroma was mouth watering. I ordered a gyro pita with a salad. I wasn’t impressed with the Greek salad at all. I am used to having cucumbers and tomatoes in my salad among the feta cheese, onions and greens. This salad was nothing but onions and a lot feta. so disappointing for sure. The pita was good, not great. but one thing I LOVED that was unique was that the pita bread was heated in an almost BBQ fashion. What I mean is, it was crispy and held the pita TOGETHER. so that when I was eating it. it didn’t just fall apart like I’ve had happen to me many times before. It was great. The meat was cooked fine, and it had the usual things in it but it just didn’t stand out aside from the pita bread. I might go back but only for the pita itself … maybe.

Meh. Why does everything have to close so early on New Years Eve? My friend and I had originally planned to go to Falafel’s Drive-In, but they were closed. Then we’d wanted to try out Yiassoo for the first time, but they had closed. To be honest, we stopped here since they were the only place we found that was open. I ordered the souvlaki. It was nice and filling, and I inhaled it since I hadn’t eaten all day. Flavor-wise, though, I thought it was kinda lacking. Bland, I guess. My friend and I each had baklava, too, which was yummy. Overall, though, this place was just kinda eh.

On those lazy nights, when you’re hungry, but just not in the mood to cook, yet you want something with flavor and the thought of fast food would make you vomit, Greek Kitchen is a great alternative. Greek food in general is great because it can be light(depending on what you get) and on the healthier side of much of what is available(also depending what you get). But what makes Greek Kitchen a «Yay!» is the experience you’ll have when you go. I’m not saying its dinner and a show; on the contrary, it is very mellow, which is what makes it great. Everyone I met in the establishment was very nice and accommodating. I ordered the gyro plate, which comes with salad, along with some tea(that gets filled at your desire) all for $ 7. I don’t got to fast food very often, but I’ve definitely spent more than $ 7 at Jack n’ the Box with an extra order of guilt on the house. The salad was your basic salad, with lettuce, tomato, onions, olives, and feta cheese drizzled with cucumber sauce, but everything tasted fresh and crunchy. They gave an ample amount of gyro meat with my order and although the pieces were already cut, it was not dried out. The baklava was teasing me in their glass case, but I was able to resist; although I can’t say the same the next time I go. There are no surprises with Greek Kitchen, which is what makes it great on those lethargic evenings where you just want your belly to be full.

The Good: I picked up a Gyros plate to-go and it was delicious! The lamb was tender and perfectly spiced. The meat was fabulous and as soon as I’d finished my portion, I wanted more! I could have been served an entire plate of that lamb and been happy. It was truly superb! The Average: The Greek salad and potatoes that were served as side dishes were okay. Nothing spectacular, nothing horrific. The salad was really fresh but the dressing was your basic«blah» oil-based dressing. The Bad: The rice was not good. It’s pretty hard to mess up rice; this rice has a few of the crunchy overcooked bits you get at the bottom of the rice cooker and my teeth did not enjoy that«surprise.» The Ugly: The kalamata olives in the salad were pretty disgusting. There’s a little grocery store in the Lunardi’s shopping center at the corner of Branham and Meridian that has kalamata olives that are waaaayyy better. The Greek Kitchen should buy their olives from there!

Everytime I go in there I come out with a smile, The owner is very friendly and always remembers his customers. The food is really fresh, and he even makes his own sauces. The facility is spotless, and everything is done right. To top it all off, the prices are very low. Where else can you get fresh food that didn’t come out of a packet, for around 5 dollars — and it’s far better for you than American fast food? They offer by far my favourite gyro in the Bay Area! Admitedly I doctor them towards Doner Kebabs ;-) next time your are out looking to grab some food quickly, skip the usual doses of Burgers or Chinese Take Out and vist the Greek Kitchen. Unilocal… 2011 — ITISNOTCLOSED, just redone. Same people, same food. Even better.

One of the very best places for Gyro in the bay area. The gyro plate is generously piled along with the pilaf rice and the salad, and a great deal for the money. Not only that but if you’re a purist as I am you’ll notice the gyro a cut above the rest. This guy cooks and cuts his meat the traditional way where he slices it with the prerequisite long knife, the net result is thin delictable strips of meat that are crunch toasty on the outside and tenderly cooked on the inside. Most other places will slice a slab from the ‘souvla’ and then throw it on the grill and cook it for a bit. It tastes and looks like slabs of meatloaf. This is where I go when I want some real Gyro.

My husband and I have been going here basically ever since Greek Kitchen opened, and every time we go it is always the same guy. He is so nice, and always takes time to make sure you’re getting exactly what you want. I always get the same thing– the Gyro plate. It is soooo tasty! Something I also really love about the guy who serves us is his cleanliness. I always notice that he keeps a very clean work space, and it is something that people like me especially appreciate about other restaurants when they’ve worked in them before! My husband and I have always worried about how long the Greek Kitchen will last because it doesn’t seem to have an ideal location, as it’s a good ways past the Pruneyard and kind of in a random shopping plaza– we also hardly ever see people in there which makes us sad! I am always relieved to see they are still open for business. Bottom Line: This place is a gem and I hope it stays around for a long long time!!!

I have been going to this place since they first opened and I have been a fan since. It’s like greek fast food, but homemade. Everything taste very fresh and yummy! The service is great! The man who works there always remembers my order. I didnt’t go there for like 8 months and he still remembered it! I am always in and out with in 5 minutes and the prices are great! 7 bucks for a gyro plate and large drink! can’t beat that! There rice and potatoes seriously taste like your in someone’s home and they just made you dinner! Only thing is I wish there was more of a selection on the menu! Probably because I’ve ate there so many times! I have to agree with Murphy B. I do not know why this place does not get better reviews!

Ate dinner here earlier with a friend cause he was feeling like some Greek/Mediterranean food and I just wanted to grub somewhere new. I had the Chicken Souvlaki Plate for $ 6.49 plus tax. The salad with cheese was pretty fresh and good, but I wasn’t feeling those salty pitted olives. The rice with carrots and peas was pretty good and the chicken was alright, but a little dry. My friend had a Souvlaki Gyro for $ 4.49 plus tax and we both agreed that it was pretty small and probably only worth about $ 3.00 cause he didn’t even get full off that and I doubt I even would. But yeah, decent place to try. They had 1 dessert, not sure what it was called, and they had falafels here too on the dry erase board menu, but we didn’t bother trying them.

The Greek Kitchen is refreshing! A place that you can enjoy and taste some good food! I get the Kabob plate with a salad. It is the perfect portion. It’s not heavy or greasy. Don’t get me wrong, I love heavy and greasy food but sometimes my body screams for some kind of fiber:) Parking is easy, plenty of seating, outside seating, clean clean clean and the owner is a good guy.

I was on my way to Yiassoo for a falafel(because I didn’t want to drive another four miles to Falafel Drive-In) when out of the corner of my eye, I saw this seemingly hole-in-the-wall establishment with a falafel sign in the window. So I hit the brakes and cruised in. There were a couple people ahead of me, but the owner already had their orders started and was able to start mine. As he was making my falafel sandwich, I just knew I was going to hate it. He asked if I wanted regular or whole-wheat pita. I opted for whole wheat and it was the store-bought kind. Whatever. He only put a pinch of shredded lettuce in my sandwich — the thing felt really empty. I was impressed that he had hot sauce cooking on the stove, but I really couldn’t taste it when I went to eat my sandwich. He tried to put some goopy yogurt junk in there, too. It definitely wasn’t tahini. The kicker was the falafels weren’t even green. They were like orange inside. Gross. I’m never going back there again. At least it only cost me like $ 5. I hate giving the Greek Kitchen only two stars because the owner, while he’s definitely not Greek, was super nice. Despite the exterior, the interior has been done over in modern prints/furniture. My best wishes to the Greek Kitchen, but if you’re looking for a good falafel head to Falafel Drive In on Stevens Creek/W. San Carlos(San Jose) or House of Falafel on Stevens Creek near Wolfe(Cupertino).

Before the Turkey day and Turkey leftover weekend, we needed to have something that has nothing to do with Turkey. GREEK food seemed to be the right choice and this place was open late, so we stopped here. We ordered Gyro, Chicken Souvlaki plate, and Greek salad to go. When we ordered, he took the Chicken on a skewer and grilled right then. Chicken was very moist and pretty tasty. Plate came with rice pilaf and Greek salad on the side. Gyro meat was moist(I had very dry Gyro meat, almost like a jerky before elsewhere) so I was pretty happy about that. Overall, food was good and price was pretty cheap(for those three items it was under $ 20). Most of the items on the menu is under $ 7. I would stop here again for a quick bite of Greek food.

It was raining and I didn’t feel like fighting the crowds at Falafel’s drive inn. I have passed the Greek Kitchen on many occasions but never ventured in. I ordered a Gyro Plate, which consisted of Gyro meat, rice, potatoes, and salad(no pita). The wife had a Chicken Greek salad. What can I say? The food was okay, but I would have rather gone to Falafel’s. Nothing ventured nothing gained. On the positive side the food was fresh, the place was clean, and the guy behind the counter was very friendly.

The first clue that this place is serious about Greek food is the lack of fries on the menu. That’s a good thing, and not just because it means you get to have a side of the potatoes. Other things you really want to note: He has a gyro wheel and is not afraid to use it. Correctly. The chicken souvlaki is slow grilled pretty much to order, and oh-so-worth it. The potatoes, oh man the potatoes. And the chicken platter will linger in your dreams. This is a small kitchen with pretty much one guy running the show, and while he does a good job handling lunches, dinners are best if you spend some time chatting with either him or the folks visiting. Having grown up with really good Greek back east, I can only say that this place is a God send.

I really like this place, it’s simple, laid back, friendly, clean, not that expensive, and the food is pretty good. For what the place is I think it’s awesome! Also the guy that works there is really great as well, he’s always friendly, happy, and talkative. If you’re looking for a really nice sit down restaurant, this is not the one. But if you just want some simple good food without any thrills then this is the place! I saw an earlier review on here that said the salad wasn’t fresh… i think that must have been a rare occurrence because I go there at least 3 times a month and the salad has always been incredibly fresh. I always get the chicken souvlakia plate with the salad, rice, potatoes, and then a slice a pita bread. I know I should probably try some of the other things, but I’m a creature of habit. This place is worth checking out, so give it a shot!

I’m quite a regular at this place. It’s the closest place to my apartment and overall a good place to eat The owner is extremely nice and personable. He even suggested I call in an order even if i’m planning to eat there b/c then the meat will be ready by the time I get there. Great idea As far as the food, I usually go basic with the chicken souvlakia with hot sauce on the side. If you like that extra kick, ask for some of the hot sauce on the side and drizzle over the food. My girlfriend usually gets the gyro with rice, potatoes and side salad. She enjoyed it as well The facility is extremely clean and you can tell that the ingredients are very fresh. Check out the fresh tomatoes all nicely lined up. And the owner always makes sure everything is in line. Prices are reasonable as well

Yiassoo is down the street, just go there. My friend and I both got falafel, complete with soggy falafel balls and no tahini sauce. The tziki was really really good(I had some with a side of potatoes), but it was just awkward to eat soggy falafel balls. Remember when this place was the Happy Days Diner and they had that burger eating contest? Like if you could eat the Big Bopper, you got your name on a plaque. My friend Eric tried it once and failed, and I was so ready to show him up but they wouldn’t let me substitute veggie patties for the meat ones(I wanted to call it the Veggie Valens, I had it all planned out). Anyway, that place was hokey and cool. This place is just sort of soggy and depressing. I wish I liked it more because the guy who worked there was so sweet, but I just can’t bring myself to appreciate mediocre food.

Had no idea where I was in San Jose on a Thursday. I ended up here, fiending for good greek food. Ooops, boss is coming… more to follow! Boss is gone now… The staff/owners were very nice and helpful, the gyro was quite tasty and the meat was moist, and the soda cup had a hole in the bottom, which was actually hilarious. I would definitely recommend this place if you black out someday and end up in suburbia!

Finally, another Greek restaurant in the area that is actually good. I love Greek food but I’m so tired of eating at the same places all the time. Greek Kitchen is very good. The place is clean and the service is friendly. The menu is very simple which makes it easy to pick what you want to eat. I had the gyro with salad, loved both. Hubby had chicken suvlaki plate, he liked the chicken, he said it was very juicy and he also liked the salad, rice and potatoes that come with it. The gyro is so big that I couldn’t finish it, even had half leftover for later that night. Definitely a good place to eat, very much recommended!
