Great drinks and lots of passion behind the creation of each one. Friendly staff, good energy, and a nice mellow crowd. I highly recommend this place if you haven’t been. I never experienced what this bar was before, but this truly is different than any bar in the South Bay. If you can appreciate the craft of a well made drink and mellow setting, this place is for you.

Awesome place for conversation and classy drinks. I love their Matcha Flip, Mango Lassi(tastes like alcoholic mango milk tea), and Dimmi Sour(a custom cocktail that tastes like gummy peach rings with egg white cream). You can tell that I really like sweet and creamy cocktails, but my friends say that their harder drinks are good as well. For beer lovers, they have Russian River Brewery’s Pliny the Elder on tap. The drinks tend to be $ 12 – 14, and the beers around $ 9. You need to make a reservation to sit at the booths. You can do this via Unilocal SeatMe. It’s nice to sit and chat in these nooks, as the volume level is low; No need to shout over each other here. I never went to the original Single Barrel so I can’t make a comparison, but I would definitely recommend Haberdasher.

Not as cool as the old Single Barrel, but the drink quality is still there. The feeling is similar to when you tell some friends about a cool look out spot where you can see the whole city… then randoms show up and completely destroy the atmosphere. The soul of the place is still there, just a bit too much people. On the plus side they use lightbulbs now so you can actually see in the place.

Love this place! A hidden gem I’ll say! First let me preface by saying I’m not much of a drinker so when my friends invited me here I was almost not going to come. I’m glad I did! The vibe is hipster, which I am, and the décor reminds me of a speakeasy a bit. It made me feel like I was in Portland. Love the vibe. All the men and women are dressed very dapper. When you order a Moscow Muel you get to keep the mug! Awesome! What I also love is that you can make a reservation for your friends or a date! We first ended up at the bar hung out for a while and while we were waiting we made a reservation for our second round of drinks. Our server was really nice, a very tall gentleman.(Wish I remembered his name) The seating is very comfortable and intimate so probably not best for a large large group maybe like up to 5 – 6. They also have snacks which are super delish. Small portions so if you’re looking to have your drinks absorbed up you may want to hit up a diner after. I will be going back! Try their Gimlets too, they are great!

This was a really cool spot to chat with friends. I like the menu has a variety of options which can slow down the ordering process since you really want to know what all of them taste like. The music was great. I loved the red walls! Added a kink to the vibe.

Great place, great drinks, awesome bartender! This place is quite cute, but lack of seating. I would definitely come back because I’m a fan of the atmosphere!

Never been to Single Barrel FYI. Haberdasher is kind of far if you’re trying to go bar hopping since everything is on First Street. I came for specifically for this place. They have very intimate booths that’s nicely designed. I came on a weekday which made seating and service much easier. I can’t imagine how busy and packed it would get for a weekend. Since the bartenders had some downtime, they were really good at service and recommending and altering to my taste. I had a pleasant time. I would really recommend trying to come early on a weekend or a weekday since it’s all about customizing and finding that perfect drink.

We were in town for a wedding and was told about this place. The recommender had been there when it was Singlebarrel but hadn’t yet been as Haberdasher. We went on a Thursday night and it was mostly empty but a comfortable scene. Unlike apparently most of the other bars we went to that trip, it was lit like a bar — enough to see what you’re doing but not enough to ruin the atmosphere or mood. And can we talk about the drinks? I had a Golden Gauntlet and I really wish I could have one of these everyday. SO damn good. With the atmosphere, drink quality, and friendly staff I really wish this bar/lounge was in DC and not CA!

It’s true! It’s all true. The formerly quiet, unique singlebarrel has undergone a drastic makeover and has been renamed to Haberdasher. Although it’s shell is changed, the heart of singlebarrel remains. Gone is the oh so dim lighting and the ushers walking around waiting to pounce when noise arises. Now you can see the colors of the apparently red walls What remains of this place are the witty bartenders and craft cocktails(give or take). I seriously love the drinks here, and if it’s not too busy, they’ll still make you a custom drink at the bar. Other than that, they now have a menu and you are expected to order from the menu unless you remember what your drink from singlebarrel is called. I can’t remember what I ordered, but if you say you want the strawberry drink, they’ll know what you’re talking about. If you come in the summer time, ask for the watermelon drink. It’s the best drink for a girly girl like me there. too bad it’s seasonal. I docked a star because we took a first timer here and the bartender didn’t make the drinks in front of us. I was sad because that’s probably one of the best things about this place and our friend wasn’t able to experience that.

My boyfriend took me here for a special date. I absolutely loved it. The vintage red curtains, the lightings, I felt like I was in a movie. There was no wait and the bartenders are oh so friendly. There’s not much parking there. Plenty of great drinks. There’s lots of things not on the menu but you can just tell your bartender what you like, the flavor, liquor, etc. and they can make something for you. I got this raspberry cucumber drink that was AMAZING. Also for 13 dollars you can get a moscow mule and it comes with a free take home mug. It was perfect. Absolutely love this place!

We decided to celebrate New Years here on a whim while walking around downtown. The cover was only $ 10(way cheaper than any of the other bars or clubs in the area) and we had no problem getting in. Apparently reservations were taken for all of the tables, but since we got there around 10 we still had no problem finding two stools to sit on. The service here was great– even with the New Years rush and the place being packed by 11:30, the bartenders were still friendly and put a ton of care into making each drink. It was all about the experience of the old-fashioned, speakeasy environment, which I loved. I had a Guava Getdown, which was delicious– tasted just like POG juice! I also had the golden porter that was on tap, which I also enjoyed. In case you’re curious, there was a champagne toast at the end of the night, as is typical at bars on NYE. The music was nothing special on this night, but it wasn’t bad. I did like that I could still have a conversation while sitting near the band, but I would have liked some more exciting music for the holiday. Note: I had never been here while it was still Single Barrel, so I can’t compare the two. But my experience at the Haberdasher was great!

I came here on a Thursday night around 8 and it was fairly empty. The atmosphere is definitely a lot more inviting than it was before with more lighting and more seating. The bartender was great, I had the guava cocktail and my bf had an old fashioned. I asked the bartender if they still did custom drinks and he said yes if it’s not terribly busy. Good to know for next time! Both our drinks were delicious.

This place used to be Single Barrel, and I LOVED that bar. It was a Christmas Tradition that me and a girlfriend had started to go here on Christmas and grab a drink. When it closed, i was so upset! But then I heard that it opened again with a new name. I was very excited. My boyfriend and best friend actually figured out that they were having a new years celebration, but it was going to be, «luck of the draw» type of deal. Luckily for us, we WON! They had a live band, they had appetizers, champagne, and pizza from House of Pizza! The night was literally perfect– also perfect because just an hour before we arrived, my boyfriend asked me to marry him! So we got to spend our evening not only ringing in the new year, but also celebrating our engagement. I even got to meet the owner and he was a doll! Super polite and really seems to care about his customers. we were all very well taken care of that night, which leads me to believe that we would be taken care of any regular night. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a romantic evening, or an evening away from all the fuss and loudness of downtown.

Been here a couple times now since they reopened as Haberdasher. It’s a lot brighter downstairs now and more of a regular bar atmosphere. I do enjoy that you no longer are confined to the party you came with and you can be louder when talking amongst yourselves. There are also seems to be more seating, which is always nice. I do miss the custom cocktail experience at the bar but it’s still available at the booths if you make a reservation. My favorite drink that I’ve had is the peaquod cocktail; it’s bright and refreshing and has got some awesome pea flavor which I would never have thought would work so well in a cocktail. I thought it was pretty cool how you get to keep the copper mugs if you get the Moscow mules on tap, although I can’t say their Moscow mules are very good. Overall, the quality of many of their drinks still measures up to single barrel and I think the changes they made to how the bar operates makes for a enjoyable experience. Single barrel was my favorite watering hole to drink at in downtown San Jose; Haberdasher seems to be a worthy replacement.

I finally came here for the first time since it changed from Singlebarrel. We had a reservation for 6. I definitely like the ambience here more than before. We could speak more freely, and it was nice to have a server come to our table to take our drinks. I got a couple of my old favorites from Singlebarrel(Tart Landon, Corpse Reviver 2), but I also tried out some of the menu drinks(Gin & Herb Tonic, Something with cucumber I can’t remember the name of), which were pretty tasty. I also tried sips of my friends drinks, which were nice. The drink quality is still excellent, and I really enjoy the environment! I’m just sad that they don’t have the English Cosmo anymore =(

The ambience completely changed as they described it. It’s really nice that they have a reservation system now. Park the car, then enter the place just on time — easy. Gone are the volume limits; the calm, thorough journey as the bartender guides you to your preferred drink; and the dimness. Now, they even have food! So, definitely going to try this place again. It’s disappointing that Singebarrel had to go, since there were few places like it. Regardless of its origins, Haberdasher is a pleasant palce to go hang w/friends in its own right. Most of the same drinks are still there. It’s quite unfortunate that they removed the absinthe from the Corpse Reviver 2.

Finally came for the first time since they transitioned from Single Barrel to Haberdasher. I’d heard from other friends that it wasn’t as good anymore, which made me sad, but I needed to see for myself. Luckily, my extroversion was in full force after our Unilocal Elite Event at Voltaire Coffee House tonight(just around the corner), so Teresa N. and I ventured over for a drink. Being December, today was the first day of their hot holiday drinks. Ordered a French hot toddy and it was just as good before(big sigh of relief). The service was just as superb and friendly as in the Single Barrel days.(Special props to Jacob, our bartender for tonight!!) In short, I’m glad I gave Haberdasher a chance — it’s still wonderful and measures up to the same great quality as Single Barrel :) I will be back!

I came in to Haberdasher not having been here since it was Singlebarrel. I couldn’t bring myself to go because Singlebarrel stood for everything I looked for in a bar. However, I had to try it out eventually and glad I did. The dark lounge area has been lit up and tables shuffled around to create a much lighter, more social atmosphere. I love the hat light fixtures and all the color definitely helps. Drink-wise it seems the bartenders are still pretty skilled and can still create some legacy cocktails like The Perfect Finish(also can get one called«The Other Finish» for a more cherry-infused flavor). However, one of the big reasons why I was partial to Singlebarrel was their whiskey selection. They always seemed to have stuff that other bars neglected. Haberdasher sort of goes away from that. The whiskey selection is more basic with the usual that you’d find in other spots. Still though, they manage to surprise with one or two gems like the High West Midwinter Nights Dram. Not sure what my final verdict would be, but the Haberdasher sure made a good first impression. Definitely need to come back for more research if you know what I mean.

A good friend of ours highly recommended Single Barrel, but before we could drop by they closed. Turns out the partners split and it had been re-opened as Haberdasher — and he wasn’t kidding, it’s definitely a singular experience. Only without the shushing this time. Two(including me) in our party weren’t drinking so we went with the mixed sodas — which were divine. My rosemary soda was absolutely delectable, I only wish they weren’t $ 6 a glass(and that glass has a lot of ice in it) because it definitely puts a cap on how often I can come back(I usually toss back about 3 a visit). I love the décor, and from about 7 – 8 it’s slower so you can often find a table. With our drinks we tend to munch down on some sweet and spicy pecans — they’re crunchy with just the right touch of spice, and sweet enough that you want to keep eating them! The service is always personable and friendly — though on the slower side due to the care that goes into making each drink. I really enjoy watching them make it because even with the sodas it’s an art. All in all, we keep coming back — especially for the sodas… I think I may be addicted.

Haberdasher is one fine bar! The atmosphere, the people and the drinks are definitely top notch! Getting to this place was like going to a hidden gem, their logo is so minimalistic and very clandestine. Came here on halloween surprisingly was not that busy, okay… maybe it was! There is limited seating since most of the joint is reservation only. With my friends, party of 3, we got side seating fairly quickly! and our drinks also fairly easily and quickly. Though the bartenders are super busy, they work really fast! Moscow Mule is on TAP! yassss, so $ 13 for that and when you bring your cup back it’s a 9 $ refill! They have plenty of drinks on tap, which is great because that’s all you really need ;). This place is one of a few places that have MMs in copper cups and on tap! Overall, my experience was amazing. The theme for Halloween was mad hatter, which was cool because they dressed the part. The drinks were delicious and the people were friendly… even the people there, customers, were all nice — chatted with a few people about their costumes. Great atmosphere, great environment and great drinks! Definitely a good recommendation

Haberdasher is basically Singlebarrel 2.0, the famous Speakeasy of the South Bay. With their rebranded and remodeled location, they’ve improved in some areas, but fallen short in some. One of the best new features of Haberdasher that sets them apart from the rest of the bars is their reservation system. It’s fantastic for weekends, and really takes the stress off of finding a table. I love it! But of course you’ll have to plan ahead for this. It is also a fantastic experience because you’ll get table service instead of fighting up at the bar. During busy hours, by having a reservation, you’ll be sectioned off from the standing area so you’ll also get more space. It’s definitely an appealing factor here. Drink-wise, quality has dropped slightly. While their drinks are still great, and their bartenders are definitely knowledgeable, the quality has slipped I feel. But it is nice to get a gin fizz even if its made by machine(honestly I prefer the machine for the extra foam you get). Also drinks are still great here considering the bartenders are good at recommending as well as widening your alcoholic indulgences. Food-wise I was hoping they would improve here, but snacks are limited to nuts, jerky, and pork rinds. Unfortunately, nothing prepared in house, but good if someone’s hungry. Atmosphere, the place is much more lively. You no longer have to whisper, and the music is upbeat. The waiters are also very attentive to customers. Overall the main factor that will keep me coming back is the ability to place a reservation and the good, strong cocktails. Still a great spot in Downtown San Jose.

Me like! So this is the new Singlebarrel, eh? MUCHBETTER! Same owner(s), same bartenders, and mostly the same drinks/concept. Only difference… No longass line wrapped around the building that they hold No maximum number of people per group allowed in No volume control of your voice. You don’t have to whisper anymore! No more sitting in the dark with only a candle on your table No more 20 questions from the bartenders Not sure if this is just a promotional thing, but when you order their $ 13 Moscow Mule, you get to keep the«copper» cup it comes in! Not just that, but you can exchange your used one for a fresh, new one before you leave so that it’s not all wet/sticky from your drink. How awesome is that?!

I’m shocked that single barrel is gone. I don’t like writing negative reviews and any other day I would probably give this place a solid 3 stars, but seeing as how I was a huge fan of Single Barrel. I have to take it down a notch. I had not known Single Barrel had closed down. It WAS my favorite bar in downtown San Jose. Classy, charming, and intimate. This is where I went when I wanted an experience you couldn’t get anywhere else. Well, I guess they are gone and Haberdasher is now in it’s place. There wasn’t a line, but everyone still had the costumes in place. However, instead of going to the bar where you would have an intimate experience with the bartender in finding a perfect drink you just sit somewhere and place an order with the menu. Drink selection is much more limited to what once was. It’s much brighter and there is modern music playing. Come on man. This is supposed to be a speakeasy type of place. Bah. They don’t shush you anymore because it’s already freaking loud. It’s turned into a regular bar with a gimmick. They don’t have the old school photo of the dude in the hallway anymore. I always liked that touch. The drinks weren’t bad, but didn’t have the same punch that the drinks that single barrel had. If I’m paying these prices, I want the same caliber drinks. Either way, Single Barrel is gone and has been replaced by this place. Almost feels like a corporate franchise now. I’m sad.
