This place has been in existence for 40+yrs. The original owner now in her 80’s retired. Those were the days restaurants permitted smoking. The first owner used to smoke. I do remember that when I was in my late 20’s. It was not usual but I always thought it was nasty. Glad those days are long gone. I have not been here for over a decade. I thought I’d take my wife to a little hole in the wall and lunch with her. I ordered my warm turkey sandwich as usual only this time on wheat bread. It was not 100% like I remembered. They used to put black olives in the sandwich. However, it was warm, fresh and good. Fresh ingredients is Key to a good sandwich. Customer Service was very friendly. My wife enjoyed her Turkey Club and Chai tea. It’s not the kind of place she’s used to eating lunch but she humored me.(She’s a Accounting Consultant, not a factory worker) The homeless looking dude, that was sitting there let out a very loud, long disturbing belch. Go see a doctor! sorry wifey I’ll get it to go next time.

Came here and first off the staff are very sweet and asked me how I was doing and some suggestions, as this was my first time here. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich on a soft roll with everything but onions. All of the ingredients were fresh and the bread was very tasty and didn’t overpower the sandwich. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the sweet mayo was, it complimented the sandwich very well. My only let down was that in many other reviews people said they got a lot of meat and I did not, but maybe that is because I ordered the grilled chicken. I will be back to try the other sandwiches and update my review.

Really liking this place for lunch. It reminds me of togos, but a little bit higher quality. Oddly enough I prefer the B.L.T. sandwich to some of the other ones that are made here. All of the sandwiches are customizable so you can really find something here that you will like. Ingredients are really fresh, including all of the condiments they have and the bread(only tried the dutch roll) is fantastic too. Haven’t tried any of their smoothies so I cannot comment on that. Also it should be noted that this is a really small deli, not so good for big groups. I almost always get mine to go anyway.

My experience was always perfect coming here. The sandwiches are delicious and the owner was so nice. Everything changed until today when I went in. I got there around noon lunch time & there was a gentlemen waiting in front of me. We both literally stood in line for almost 5 mins until she noticed us. He ordered his sandwich & I was next. After ordering I sat down to wait. Usually it takes about 7 mins for my order to be ready so I was expecting the same since there was no one else waiting. After I ordered more people started coming in so I was happy I got there before. At least 5 people ordered after I did. I noticed that two of those customers were regulars because she already knew what they wanted to order but I didn’t think anything of it. About 5 mins or so passed and the guy before me received his sandwich so of course I was next umm yeah right I was. A guy who order two people after me was handed his sandwich first & he was one of the regulars so I was kind of tick of that just because he goes constantly doesn’t mean he can be served before others. Whatever I ignored it but then 10 mins passed then 15& nothing. I was already there for over 20 mins then I see her making a lot of sandwiches and Im like ok there making mine. After another 5 mins she ask what I ordered again, wtf really? So I told her and she proceeded. I saw her packaging a sandwich so I stood up thinking it was mine & wrong again. She made 5 sandwiches for the other regular consumer. After that I was beyond pissed already and was ready to walk out but then I told myself if I go somewhere else there goes my hr lunch so I got up and was like how long for my damn sandwich and she just smirks and says oh its here. Ugh I don’t think I want to go back after this I will just stick to togos. I also noticed the other customers were getting annoyed. They need more helpers and it is wrong to favor your regulars over other customers. I didn’t like that shit at all. Lost a customer here!

Wow, what a gem this is. Not the Togo’s that has to weigh your meat so you get so little, nor the Subway that has your meat pre-sized and prepped which you get so very little of as well. No we are talking MEAT, if you want a real sandwich with lots of meat that you can see, that tastes so GOOD; then this is the place for you. My daughter recommended this place to me as it’s near her work. I have been coming back ever since! Can you say YUMMY?! Both times I ordered my sandwich, Turkey/Avocado it looked and tasted the same, Mmm Mmm Good! They don’t just put a small scoop of Avocado on here and try and make it spread for your whole sandwich, no you can watch them take it fresh from the Avocado and fill your sandwich with it. My daughter gets the Chai Tea with pearls which is really good. Today I decided to try the Green Tea blended with pearls and OMG where has that been all my life?! It was delicious. Look at my photo’s, which my daughter took, to see what my daughter and I got here. Sadly I didn’t take a picture of my Green Tea because as soon as I got it, I drank it, and it was gone.

The food was great bread super warm and soft! But most of all that super awesome sweet Asian lady had the absolute best customer service ever! I’m not sure how there other food is but the sandwich I had was basic but awesome made with love! Hahaha wish I would have gotten her name!

I had my front windshield replaced next door at Spider Auto Glass and he mentioned there’s a deli place next door. I walked around the corner and stepped inside starving since I haven’t eaten all day. The little lady behind the counter was cleaning and stared at me with this look like«uh how can I help you?» I told her I wanted a sandwich and she told me she just closed… It was my fault for not looking at the sign and time(5:10pm). I apologized and started walking away a little disappointed since I was hungry… She noticed and told me to wait and she would make a quick sandwich! Booooyyyy was I happy. She asked what types of meat I liked and recommended me a sandwich. One of the best sandwiches I had in this area in a while! I’ll def be back for more since I work in the nearby area.

So simple yet so good. Wish it was open for dinner though. Their SUbs on the other side are very bland and had a lot of bread. Get it toasted! Bread is very chewy

New owner, not the same Happy Smile Deli traditions. Cut down on amount meats has been one of the biggest complaints. After coming here for around 9 years and sadly I will no longer be going back. Don’t waste your time or money, there’s plenty of awesome sandwhich shops around now. Chiramonte’s, Ike’s, Zanotto’s…

This place is in desperate need of Restaurant Impossible’s help! The sandwich is super bland. I ordered the«mother of all mochas» and guess what? It was also bland. It’s apparent that the mocha was made from powder. The deli is in desperate need of a makeover. If you’re going to be a plain deli, you’ve gotta have the sammie’s to back it up! The only reason I didn’t give this place one star was because the counter girl was really nice. Would I come back? Nope!

I live one block away so I come by this place quite often. I always order the liverwurst sandwich on soft roll bread and I love it! Liverwurst is kinda hard to come by in most sandwich shops so that’s why I like this place. The honeydew smoothie is refreshing as well! The lady there is very nice, always greets you with a smile, makes you feel welcomed. My sandwich is always consistently tasty, wrapped well. Subways got nothing on this place

4 Stars. Solid Deli with fresh bread, meat, and veggies. Their Salami Sandwich with all toppings was very good and reminded me of Troia’s in Monterey, one of my favorite Deli’s Final Thoughts: Happy there is a place in San Jose that reminds me of home!

Found this place by referral from Spider Auto Glass. I was hungry and I was waiting while my car was being worked on by Spider Auto. I was greeted by a friendly lady that referred me different things to try and I ended having the Turkey Avocado Club croissant sandwhich and a blended honeydew smoothie. The food was good and the drink was refreshing. That croissant was amazing!

I have tried eating here multiple times and each time I have felt the sandwiches were poor quality. The fresh ingredients were good, but there was almost no meat and no cheese. In addition to that the mustard and spreads are nothing to write home about. If I was to eat here again for lunch Happy Smile would really need to up its game.

My coworker had come here a few times and i finally decided to check it out. Its on a busy corner and I don’t think it gets the exposure it derserves. Really friendly staff and good sandwiches. There is a mini parking lot to park and they have a variety of snacks and drinks as well. I ordered turkey on sourdough and it was a big sandwich for under 7.00. They also take credit cards. I would go back!

I have tried just about every sandwich on the menu. I suggest the«I don’t know» it has egg salad and ham. Very good!
