The menu looked great on paper. I am a meat lover so I ended up having Butter Chicken, Lamb Roganjosh, naan and rice. Have to say, it is one of the sweetest butter chickens I ever had ! The Lamb was missing on spices and salt. Rice and naan were ok. Cleary not going to advise anyone for a major event.

Jalsa Catering is hands down the best Indian food in the Bay Area! My husband and I worked with Chef Vittal for my brother’s wedding over Labor Day and we were blown away by his professionalism, the quality of his food, the plating and how very nice he is! Because we are both huge foodies and cooks ourselves, we were able to create the menus from scratch(street food for one event and a formal dinner for another). During the tasting, he came up with the items we wanted on the spot and was extremely flexible and willing to accommodate our palate. We got so many compliments on the food and will not hesitate in using Jalsa for our own catering here in the Bay Area. Truly amazing food with a great guy! Thanks so much Chef Vittal! –Meera & Anurag

Update 10⁄23: We have now ordered from Jalsa numerous times. We have switched from«healthy» Indian to just regular Indian. Food quality/portions have drastically increased. Chicken Tikka, for example, is now moist and tasty. Naan bread is too doughy and dry. Not a fan of any of the other main dishes, which include garbanzo beans, vegetables, curry, and a swiss chard chicken. — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — Original: I feel as though 2 stars is being overly gracious. We ordered for 36 people. We always order for 36 people(from different caterers) and always have enough leftovers for me to take home and feed my husband dinner. This time though, it looked as though they gave us enough food for 15. Luckily our office has a fully stocked micro kitchen. The menu was«healthy Indian» which included poor quality chicken chunks in a tikka sauce, a curried chicken dish that most people spit out, a yellow vegetable dish which just didn’t taste right, roti bread, and partially cooked rice. There was nothing available that I could fill myself up on.

Their menu is great. Their food options are unique and they provide plenty of them, which I really liked. It’s also reasonably priced, although I cannot comment on the quality since I have not tried it yet. The pictures look pretty though, so presentation is probably big for them. ****Update***** Initially I had problems getting a hold of their Director of Operations and we got stuck on getting the liability insurance paperwork for the Fairmont. Reshmi is most responsive over the phone instead of via e-mail. Once I figured that out, it’s been pretty smooth sailing. I just did a food tasting with them for my reception menu and LOVED most of their dishes. The only issue was that my mom who was much more traditional wanted the standard Butter Chicken, Daal Makhani, etc. These guys can do that plus some great dishes on top of that which will add more unique options to the buffet. They spent 2 hours combing through the menu and finding unique but semi-traditional dishes that we could use for the buffet dinner that would fit my mom’s preferences. I really appreciate how much time and effort they put into that. Their meat dishes, particularly their lamb dishes, are my favorite! Lamb roganjosh is the way to go. Their appetizers are really tasty and the presentation for them is adorable! It’s exactly what I pictured for my reception. If you want nice presentation, these guys will deliver. I’ll update this review again after the wedding :)
