My partner and I are to be married this year, May 2016. We met Judy in the fall of 2015 before we became formally engaged after a semi arduous search for my wedding dress. I did not want to be a traditional western bride in white, my favorite color is red and finding a red dress let alone a red wedding dress turned out to be just as hard as you think it is. I had decided to go with a custom wedding dress because it became clear that no such red wedding dress of my flights of fantasy already existed. Thank goodness for Judy!
Judy is an exceptional listener, with an ear for your dreams and a eye for making magic happen. I had images I had collected of styles or elements for the dress I had envisioned: floor length, ballroom gown, 1920’s, corset back, lace, beading, but I could scarcely imagine what all these smatterings of ideas could possibly look like in a single dress. Judy expressed her love for the nontraditional and the challenging dresses, and she certainly rose to the occasion. «I am in the process of doing a black wedding dress for a Halloween bride,» she had told us. It was then that I was certain we had the right designer. She sketched as we spoke, offering suggestions and asking plenty of questions to try to better understand the constraints, the preferences and the vision that I had. She also took the time to get to know us as a couple, our personalities and our comfort zones. She sketched and before we knew it, she had a rough idea for a proposal right there in front of us. She even suggested a brilliant way to wear the dress again: «Have you considered a dress that is actually a separate top and bottom?» No I had not. I was smitten with the idea.
We left our first meeting feeling absolutely reassured and so confident in our decision and leaving my ideas to brew with Judy. Her studio is clean and homey with distinct style, completely elegant and relaxing. Every visit was exciting and a real comfort — it simply felt like visiting an extended part of the family, it was funny forgetting the end goal: to get married in a dress.
Judy is flexible, she is creative and extremely hard working. She commits to her deadlines and is very prompt with her work. She sets out a schedule and before we knew it, the dress was here. It was hard to believe what the real thing was going to look like after having only seen renderings and then tried on a literal mock up in muslin cloth. We met several times, working and reworking the muslin dress until the fittings produced the precise measurements and direction so that the real dress could be made. Judy is thorough and thinks of everything. We absolutely welcomed her sage wedding advice and how incredibly empathetic she was. She gave us all kinds of resources in her arsenal from photographers to hair stylists.
I am so grateful to Judy a thousand times over for her work. I have never had anything made special for me, never once had a custom article of anything! The process is fantastic and I strongly encourage anyone with a special event (wedding or not) to consider the process and the pleasure of working with Judy Lee. It was such a lovely experience that I am admittedly already feeling the immediate onset of nostalgia — I wish I could do it again.

I’m getting married this summer and had planned to just rent a dress. My girlfriends took me by surprise to Judy’s shop to try on dresses and I had the most amazing experience! After seeing her wedding dress designs and the quality of the work she does, it completely changed my mind regarding the importance of having a dress specifically made for my special day. Judy listened to my vision and also gave me so many great ideas. I highly recommend Judy, she is simply AMAZING.
