Larry Wan

Moved from SF to San Jose and needed an optometrist. Went to a couple of docs who were less than impressive. They were just going through their routine — — an exam w/​barely any «eye contact» nor interest in my vision history. I was referred to Family Eye Care Center by a couple of people. I can’t recommend Dr. Wan highly enough. He is extremely thorough. He has been my optometrist for 6 years now.
KEY: a couple of months ago my eyes were a little red for a few days, then I awoke on a Sat. morning and my eyes were like raw hamburger meat. RED, teary, etc. He had me come in right away, and did multiple tests to diagnose the problem. He had me come in 2x/​week for a couple of weeks, and even checked on me via text after the problem resolved just to make sure there was no recurrence nor problems. I learned Optometrists are not just for writing prescriptions for glasses/​contacts. They can prescribe medicine for ocular conditions, and diagnose ocular disorders/​diseases and treat them.
Drs. Wan and Tuan (partner) are so highly regarded within their specialty that they are given the newest technologies to assess before they are (or aren’t) released to the mass market. Again — I highly recommend Dr. Wan (and Dr. Tuan). If you’re looking for exceptional vision care, go «see» them!

I have been a Dr. Wan patient for 4+ years and have been very pleased with my eye care service from him. I never feel rushed when I’m with him. He asks questions and listens to your answers carefully before prescribing the proper regimen. He seems to participate in contact lens trials quite a bit, so if you’re not happy with your current type, you can ask him to put you in one of his trials, which often yields some free contacts, as well as helps you find the right lens for you.

Dr. Wan has been my doctor for many years and I have referred him to a few of my co-​workers. They have raved about his service and have commented how much better he was than their former doctors. He has the latest equipment and puts his patients through a complete testing process. Dr Wan prepared me for LASIK surgery and the results were better than expected. I was extremely nearsighted with severe astigmatism and he made sure that the right technology was available before he scheduled me for surgery with the best surgeon available. He takes personal pride in treating all of his patients.

Dr. Larry Wan is a fantastic family eye doctor! He’s been doing this for years. Not only is he very thorough, but he’s very patient and provides excellent patient care. He knows all the Bay Area specialists, so will provide you with excellent references. My mom’s cataract surgery and my husband’s lasik surgery went without a hitch thanks to Dr. Wan. When I had eye complications, he went so far as to call me after hours to make sure I had gotten the appropriate specialist care and that I was taking care of my eyes!
He also has the latest technologies and will do more tests on the eye (when needed), than I’ve seen in most any other office. He consults for some contact lens companies too, so he has access to some lenses before other doctors do, and at lower prices.
I’ve been in the Bay Area for almost 15 years, and he’s the best eye doctor I’ve come across so far.
