Just a little hole in the wall Mexican restaurant, but the food is pretty great. They make some really good carne asada tacos that go well with a cold glass of beer. The staff is always super friendly and very energetic giving the place more of a fun vibe. Again it’s small inside so probably not the best place to bring a large group of friends. They accept plastic here so that’s always a plus. Wish it was a bit nicer to sit down inside, but in a way that also gives it a bit of it’s charm.

Update: I eat here about once or twice a week, since their problem some months ago. I’ve never had any problem. It’s important to remember that when you’re eating raw seafood and shellfish, you’re taking a risk. I will continue to eat here; the mixed ceviche is my favorite.

Reopened! And still good. This place is probably the safest place to eat in the county these days. It had never failed county inspections before, and I bet it never will again. None of the employees was found to be the source of contamination. Bad luck maybe?

My wife and I ate here last year. When we got home(15 mins away) she went straight to the toilet and almost blacked out from diarrhea. Thankfully, she’s okay after that. And we never went back. Pretty shady place.

I have gone to this place 3 times in the past 3 years. After reading about the outbreak, I am very happy that I have decided not to come back for a year now. The first time was okay, nothing special but it was so close to my house so I went for convenience. The second time I ordered the fish tacos, felt sick instantly. I contacted the restaurant and they apologized, I survived. I don’t know why I went the 3rd time but I did, ordered the shrimp and fish tacos, felt sick instantly. I did not bother to tell the restaurant this time, I just swore off ever coming back here or recommending to anyone. I also have a friend that came here in the past and after he ate, he went to ER. Lesson learned: Do some extensive research when choosing a Mexican Seafood Restaurant. Doesn’t matter if the food seems«fresh», it’s all about the preparation and how the food is handled. If you are in the food industry, never skip steps, especially when handling food. Wash your damn hands… doesn’t take more than a minute.

I swore off this place years ago after experiencing ZERO customer service and feeling entirely unwelcome. From the looks of the rest of the clientele, this place has a total thug vibe and I wouldn’t be surprised if a gang faction has claimed it as their exclusive territory. I don’t scare easily, but this place scared me. The food was far from worth the risk, and I’m not even talking about kitchen cleanliness. Those who think this place won’t recover from the recent food poisoning incident should think again. It appeals to the lowest level of the social strata who are too stupid to stay away.

Unfortunately I was a victim of this horrific experience that I will never forget. I went in on 10÷16÷15 and had a plato mixto de pescado y camaron(mixed platter of shrimp and fish.) All was well until Sunday at 3:00 am when I awoke with shivers, body ache, diarrhea, stomach ache and a massive head ache. Unfortunately for my luck I was out on vacation at Disneyland. This ruined my trip. My family and I ate the same meals out there on vacation, so I could not figure out what was wrong. I thought it might be some sort of virus or something. I came to find out on social media on 10÷21÷15 of what had happened. I will NEVER eat there food again.

It’s been a while since I’ve taken my sister out to eat. So we decided to eat at San Juan. My sister had a shrimp cocktail, and i had a fried snapper. For $ 15 bucks i would NEVEREVER get it again!!!## it was just not worth it. I feel really bad for my sister she is still sick from the cocktail and it’s been four day’s, we had to take her to emergency. What the hell! Not only was the waitress rude. FOODWASJUSTNOTGOOD! this place deserves to get shut down seriously. Then i found out today that she’s not the only one that got sick. All over the news!!! Idiot cook needs to get fired. If you wanna eat good mexican sea food go else were.

Ate there Friday afternoon w my daughter. Ordered shrimp cocktail and a ceviche tostada. By Saturday morning fever, diarrhea, vomiting nonstop. It’s now Monday missed work. I’ve eaten here many times and am completely disappointed. Bad batch or bad processing whatever it was is unacceptable.

Please don’t eat here. On Friday Oct 16th I ate the shrimp cocktail. I will spare the details, but I started being sick Friday night, then Saturday I was admitted to the ER and then the ICU. The Santa Clara County Public Health Department has already called me for their investigation. Please PLEASE do not eat here. This restaurant put at least 11 people in the hospital I am at, and I’m sure countless others elsewhere. I do not wish for a single other person to go through the hell I’ve been through.

If there was a way to put zero stars I would. I went there on 10÷17÷15 the service wasn’t great. It’s a really small place. The server gave the biggest attitude when we asked her for anything. The food looked a thousand times better than what it taste. Just when we thought it was over around 12 pm I had to be rushed to the ER. I had a fever and shivers the doctor told me that it was salmonella poisoning. And according to them around another 20 people also go sick from the same place.

Not what I expected. I have had lots better but I guess it will do for bay are mariscos. Still in search for a real good Mariscos place. Being born and raised in LA. I have high expectations for Mexican Seafood. I won’t be coming here again :(Also the place is small. And the micheladas suck!!!

I like their shrimp over rice. For $ 12, they give you lots of food. Other dishes are good too, but I feel they could be chopped up in smaller pieces.

I been eating at this restaurant for the last 10 years and it came from decent to very very poor tasteless seafood. Not only that but on top of the fact the food has no flavor, the only item in the menu that can bring some flavor to it «their home Chile de árbol hot sauce» now they sell it to you when you order to go. $.50 cents per two small tablespoon of hot sauce. This is just ridiculous. I’m sorry to say that they have just lost a loyal customer. Very bad decision by the restaurant owner.

Blown away by the freshness and size of the portions. The shrimp and octopus dishes are to die for. The best bang for your buck in terms of mariscos in San Jose.

My husband and I used to frequent this place when we were SJSU students. So as we were driving up to Napa Valley to celebrate the wedding of a close college friend, we could not wait to stop by our favorite college spot for some Mexican Sea Food! We ordered a half dozen oysters(and devoured it before I could snap a photo) as well as 3 tostadas de ceviche to share — -And it was BETTER than I remember! This is the best ceviche for an incomparable price($ 2.50 per tostada!!) that you’ll find in downtown San Jose. I Love that they mince the fish because it allows for maximum lime/lemon absorption! They also provide a generous amount of avocado.

Nunca voy a volverme a este restaurante, la comida no tiene sabor y el dueño era muy grosero con nosotros. Hay mucho mas mejor restaurantes en San José.

Bad. Bad. Bad. Bad. I mean horrible. Terrible service and horrible food. Where should I start… we went on a Sunday around 12:30pm and seated immediately. Were were seated fast but not helped quick. I understand you are going to a place that is not fine dinning, so I wasn’t expecting great service but the basics. Ten minutes after being seated the waitress came over and just looked at us, didn’t say a word, just looked at us saying«what the hell are you eating?» We asked for a drinks and some ceviche. The drinks were mixed up, my fiancé ordered a chavela, not a michelada. I ordered water, a bit hard to get confused. I asked for a ceviche tostada with shrimp and she brought me a mixed ceviche tostada. The food… I am not a picky eater at all, even if something is not super good I will eat it. Lets just say I left more than half of the food. I had camarones a la diabla, yes these are meant to be very spicy. However, the spicy sauce should still have some flavor. All I tasted was salt and tapatio or valentina(hot sauce.) It was pretty bad. The rice was good, sadly my food was so salty I couldn’t taste anything else. My fiancé ordered breaded shrimp, hard to mess up. Those were ok, they were just a bit on the chewy side. Prices are very reasonable as seafood goes. I was pretty disappointed with the service and the flavor of food. When we went to pay, another customer told the cashier that their food was salty also.

This is my favorite spot for mexican seafood. Super affordable and yummy food. I always order plato mixto which has octopus, ceviche and shrimp. This is my favorite location coz they don’t play fugly corridos music as much.

My friends and I randomly ended up here. I have been around this restaurant, maybe even walked by it, but I have never noticed it until my friends decided to go here. At first glance it looks like an outdated and dumpy little restaurant, but this is one of those hole in the wall type restaurant that actually have some pretty decent food. I ended up ordering the Tostada Ceviche and the Tostada Camaron. Both were nice, fresh, and not too heavy. This was great because most fried latino food ends up being greasy and heavy, but those tostadas were fantastic. Every table also comes with some fried tortillas to nibble on, but many of the dishes are quite large so use those fried tortillas to scoop up all the goodness left on your plate. I look forward to eating here again soon. It is a little expensive, but I will definitely be getting the tostadas again.

My friend and I wanted to dine in the downtown area so we relied on the Unilocal App that brought us to this Mexican restaurant. The interior was sizable but rather antiquated. It encompassed a large mural of the ocean, large see through windows, TV, and three rows of tables vertically arranged. Lighting wasn’t the best and the atmosphere was subdued. Fortunately, they provided parking in an area where it is premium. Diners should not misinterpret the rating for an upscale seafood restaurant, but the place embodies all the promise of a great hangout if some of the amenities could be updated. This place is known for their cheap fresh raw oysters. Ostiones($ 5.50) comes with six served in half shells and lime. These oysters were fresh and not a tinge of the ocean or foul taste. I recommend it. Next, we each had the Camaron y Pulpo($ 8.50), chopped boiled octopus, shrimp, chunky avocado, cilantro, onion, and tomato sauce served in a cocktail glass. The seafood had good texture and the sauce was smooth to bring a nice contrast to the subtleties of the cilantro and onions here and there. It was a great choice after a hot day in the sun. Finally, Al Mojo De Ajo($ 11). Garlic shrimp, Spanish rice, avocado, warm corn tortillas, and salad. Don’t let the photo fool you, but there were lots of garlicky shrimps tucked underneath the bed of fluffy Spanish rice. By this time the flavors were getting a bit redundant, so interested diners should consider getting different types of dishes to go with the two aforementioned. Service was kind and friendly as we were provided with large crispy corn chips before the dishes arrived. Plating was not the best but these prices more than make up for the imperfections. I hope to try their shrimp tacos and order an entire dozen of oysters on the next visit. 3.5 stars for the overall experience.
