One of the best burritos I’ve had in the Bay area! Friendly staff and a good ambience as well.

From customer service to food. this place is awesome. They definitely took care of us as soon as we walked in and the Chicken tacos and Carne Asada burrito were delicious! It’s a must try kinda place The owner was pretty cool too.

I gave MAVERICKSMEXICANGRILL a try tonight, and I really liked my meal. I found Mavericks on Unilocal, and I think it lived up to the hype… I had the seafood enchiladas meal. They have tilapia, cod, salmon, breaded halibut, sea bass, tuna, prawn, scallop, crab and octopus. I went with one tilapia and one breaded halibut. They arrived pretty quickly and had a unique colored enchilada sauce. It was almost neon green. I had the tilapia first, and it was blow you away good. Next was the breaded halibut, it too was super delicious. I think if I had to choose, I liked the tilapia a little more but both were excellent. The rice and beans were both tasty, the salsa spicy delicious, and the chips were fresh and hot. My wife had the chicken enchiladas. I had a bite and it was good as well — a very unique tasting red/ranchero sauce. I liked the twist. I’ll totally go back and try other seafood options — and I also want to try the tacos and burrito. Love at first bite… 4.5 stars!

I was surprised to see they don’t serve oysters here anymore after seen some old pics of the menu. This place popped up on my HTC feed and it’s close by so I gave it a shot. I’d say it’s the best seafood burrito I’ve had in San Jose hands down. Very pleased with mavericks del Mar burrito! I got the tilapia. The owner is also very engaged in the restaurant and checks up on you. I’ll be coming back.

3.5 Stars, tasty & decent enough Shrimp Burrito, I go w. the ‘Regular’ and with refried beans instead of whole beans. The restaurant is clean, the service is quick/good.

Seafood Mexican food. Of course they have land animal products too, which are delicious as well. I tried a part of the carne asada enchilada and it was very tasty. I myself felt that if you are in a seafood place then seafood should be order. I got the tilapia big burrito. This thing is packed more than the whale that are Jonah. Everything in this burrito was tasty. When I do it again I will ask for half the rice and beans though as it was just a bit too much for me with all that stuffing. The chips and salsa they serve with the meal are fresh. The chips crispy and the salsa just the right amount of spicy. There is no way you are leaving here not stuffed to the gills when you are done. All in all I recommend this place for all your Mexican needs, seafood or not, but especially for seafood.

This place is amazing! Try the beef chimichanga and you will not be disappointed. The owner is always present and helping his staff. You can tell he cares about his customers needs. I highly recommend this casual Mexican restaurant.

Location: Its in the corner of Meridian and Willow Street. To get to their parking lot you should turn on Willow. Décor: It actually has pretty nice décor with lots of chairs and tables and TV’s for people to watch. Nothing too fancy, but lots of space. Food & Drinks: I have to say the service here was outstanding. I am not sure if I was just lucky, but the owner(or what I assume was the owner) was extremely nice to us. He gave me and my 3 friends chips and salsa as we sat to wait for our food and also gave us complimentary drinks. Now to the food. It was interesting to see they had a wide selection of fish from Halibut to Cod. I ordered the Halibut burrito. If you are expecting a burrito stuffed with fish you will be sadly mistaken, but the burrito tasted good together. They actually served real vegetables in your burrito and balanced it out with a little bit of beans. Overall, the taste was very balanced, the size was pretty big, and the price was good. I also like how it comes with chips and salsa :). Happy Chip & Salsa eating my friends!

We found out the cooks from Dia had moved to Mavericks and we were in yummy seafood heaven again for a few months. Then they inexplicably closed for two months, and now the food and service are both terrible. We’ve been here twice since the re-opening, and both time the food was inedible. It’s not just overcooked, the shrimp and scallops that used to be so succulent are now rubbery and burned. Definitely not what you should expect from a $ 11 burrito! If anyone finds out where the kitchen crew relocated to this time, please message me!

Starved from an extended visit to the Willow Glen Post Office, I required sustenance. Really great, quick little Mexican food restaurant. You’ll order at the counter and find a seat to wait while your food is being prepared. I got a shredded chicken burrito with sour cream and guacamole. The ingredients were fresh and flavorful. Chips and salsa were free additions to the meal. The salsa roja was fantastic, as was the guacamole. Looking forward to swinging by this spot more often. Hugely better than Chipotle.

Wow. I am saddened by the need for this review because I’ve now eaten here twice, but I have to say this: I’d avoid this place if I were you. The first time, I was thoroughly impressed– the food tasted fresh and was amazing. Then they randomly closed and I still have no idea why(though some say the kitchen staff quit…) Just ate here for the second time(1st since reopening) and ugh… not so good. Chicken flautas were hard and dry. My boyfriend had the Burrito Del Mar with breaded halibut and the fish tasted old and«fishy.» You know that taste when fish has been around for a bit too long? Might I add… this place is extremely expensive. I’ve had much better Mexican food, for much much less.

So this place was decent when it opened up and then it mysteriously closed for a while. The reason given from the staff is that the kitchen staff needed to be replaced.(I don’t want to write any judgements on the validity of that statement). In any case, the food is much different and I won’t be returning. My burrito was filled with rice and a few shrimps(shrimp burrito) all for about $ 9 with tax. They offer free chips and salsa but they taste like store bought, if they are made in house… Not sure what happened since there is no official story on why they closed, but its disappointing.

Almost gave it a 4 because it is a little pricey but the food is legit. Great atmosphere. Like the outside seating area as well. I wanted to try the Horchata but they were out unfortunately. The tacos are outstanding. I really like how they specialize in seafood as that isn’t something that’s very common with the Mexican places I’m used to. **Update 12÷2÷2015 Just went back after they re-opened, and I don’t know what happened, but it SUCKED! The food tasted like it was out of the can, frozen and definitely not fresh. I ordered the breaded halibut burrito, and the once fresh-tasting delicious burrito, is now a over-sauced, fishy-tasting mess! And they put this weird cucumber mix inside the burrito, it was awful. I couldn’t take another bite. So $ 10 down the drain. My girlfriend’s meal not that much better, but was edible at least. Not returning. RIP.

Mavericks, located on the corner of Willow and Meridian, is already a popular Willow Glen spot, especially for families and the older population. Word of mouth has been positive and the reviews of their fish tacos made them a worthwhile stop. It’s located in a fairly big establishment but interior seating is limited compared to outdoor seating and the good size parking lot is hindered by being only a single entrance. Service is friendly and the clean, albeit, simple décor keeps the focus on the seafood and agua frescas that are prominently displayed on the counter. Supposedly, there is no alcohol served here so I got my Michelada fix at nearby Puerto Azul. I planned to get their popular fish tacos but at $ 4.09/each, I had to rethink my game plan. They did have nice options of tilapia, halibut, snapper, salmon and tuna and both fried, breaded, and grilled options are available. A variety of seafood entrees and soups are available and most include complimentary salsa and chips. My order: Siete Mares — $ 15.89. Since I only had room in my stomach and budget for one item, I opted for their Siete Mares. It’s the well known Mexican seafood soup and here features a savory seafood broth filled with mussels, clams, shrimp, tender slices of octopus, scallops and plentiful fish. The savory broth is a touch salty but improved with a squeeze of the generous half lime and dipping with the included fresh flour tortillas. Overall, it was a great seafood soup and compares well in price and flavor with my favorite Caldo de Mariscos at La Viga in Redwood City. I’d say by the one item alone and guest reaction Mavericks has already surpassed the popular, but I’ve found disappointing, Dia De La Pesca. Mavericks accepts credit cards including American Express and I’ll have to return to try their popular fish tacos.

More and more reviews keep poppin’ up for this place, its ridiculous! I’m glad I could finally snag the 100th! Hehe anyhow, I had dinner here with my friend on Sunday night a couple of weeks ago after seeing all the hype on Unilocal about it with the«high reviews.» The aguas frescas are delicious and reasonably priced. The seafood tostadas seemed great from the pictures but somehow the seafood was slightly underwhelming for me. It’s def. not a 5 star dish on its on in my book… I tried both the octopus and shrimp. I think it needed some type of sauce and the texture of the seafood was not my favorite. The chips and salsa were just okay, nothing special… I’ve had better chips and salsa elsewhere. My friend ordered something similar. It wasn’t enough food, I could have eaten more but decided not to that night. Had a great night with plenty of good post dinner conversation, and its definitely a popular spot with the outdoor seating if the weather permits. No problems with the service, but I believe it wasn’t amazing. I really think I’ll have to come back and try something more amazing to update my review beyond 4 stars. I’ll look into the seafood burritos or fried halibut possibly next time???

I love you Maverick’s! I love your cute little restaurant with the beautiful murals, the really nice workers, the cleanliness, and most of all your AMAZING food. Came for a weekday dinner so it wasnt too crazy. Lots of people getting takeout. I love coming to new places but its so hard to decide what to eat! I had my heart set on the oysters but alas they were sold out :( I went ahead and got a grilled halibut taco and mixed seafood tostada. Oh my the seafood was so fresh. The grilled halibut taco was so flavorful and each bite was savored. The tostada was loaded with fresh shrimp and octopus. It had the perfect amount of citrus. It really hit the spot on this hot summer evening. The mini me got the crab and shrimp taquitos plate and it was another winner. She finished half and I ate the rest. Yes i was full but it was that good. Gotta make room :) I even enjoyed the refried beans which is saying alot because I usually dont eat this at all. The only thing I didnt try was my husband carne asada burrito which he devoured. It always a risk when you order away from the house specials but he said it was really good. I will take his word for it. Overall the only thing missing from Mavericks is ice cold beers to enjoy with your meal. Takes credit cards and the guys at the counters are great! 5 Stars PS please have more oysters for me next time. Thank you!

I am surprised so little ratings for this place but then they newly opened. Quite a nice place to hang out outdoors or indoors. The inside is not big but quite nice and casual feel. Very nicely decorated mural walls and the place was clean. The food is very good. Nothing was dry and was very flavorful. I had their oysters on a half shell which was fresh so bonus points for that. The halibut breaded fish taco was very filling as it was filled with small pieces of breaded fish and veggies. The two sauces it came with was surprising good but was not spicy. They did have other sauces to add. They had the habanero extra hot sauces but I am not that brave! Whew! The steak quesadilla and chili verde pork was very good, too. Meat was moist and tender. We went there wanting to try as much as we could and bring the rest home. That didn’t happen!!! Haha… My only issue here is everything would have been better if they served beer but their alcohol license was not ready according to the owner. I’ll be back when they serve alcohol. :-) The owner served us the most and so easy to talk to. The owner and staff were very friendly and helpful. Great service here. Hope it stays this way! One of the better Mexican restaurants in the Bay Area… thanks John for the recommendation! ;-)

Super delicious, wonderful atmosphere, great location with plenty of parking and the food is a big solid YUMMMMY !!! I went on Father’s day with my husband, baby and mother and we loved ALL our food. The seafood tasted fresh and flavorful and had all those great latin flavors. I love that this place is in our neighborhood! We sat outside and our food came pretty quick. Service was great, considering you pay at the counter(great for groups or when you want to go someplace to pay separately), with big smiles we got our food, which was really nice sized portions. My mom is such a finicky lady when it comes to her latin food, she is particular about her rice, her beans, the sauce on the enchiladas, the way the cheese melts, the way the tortilla tastes, how and where they put the salsa on the plate. SHEISNOTJOKINGAROUND. Its annoying but in this instance, a wonderful testimony to how good the food is at Mavericks. She was enamored with their cheese enchilada sauce, and got excited because its the flavors of a sauce she has been trying to craft on her own for awhile. She was really trying to get the recipe from them to my great embarrassment. Instead, I will just need to drag her there often so she can really enjoy the culinary delights at this place. The owner is committed to good food and great quality and its reflected on the plate. If you are in Willow Glen and want to avoid crowded crazy times for a great meal, head on over here and you will NOT be disappointed. SODELICIOUS. Can’t wait to go back !!!

Soooo glad we stopped in to this new place, yesterday was their first day in business. Check out the cool«Mavericks«mural on the wall! The place is very nice, open, spacious and the staff is very friendly. There’s outdoor seating as well. We both had a fish taco, I had the Red Snapper taco and my wife had the Salmon taco. They were delicious, I Ordered two but changed my mind after they told me how much food that was. One was plenty for me and it was very good. I loved the sauces in the Taco. Chips and salsa came with it and we decided to get some guacamole as well. They have a very large menu and we are looking forward to trying some of the other items on our future visits. They also have a kids menu that’s not on the main board yet but it sounded pretty good.
