Merrill Gardens is a wonderful atmosphere and provides basic care of nice apartments, activities and great food. However, if your loved one is older, they may need medical monitoring (evaluation of blood pressure, medications) by licensed professionals as illness can occur suddenly. I did not realize that assisted living facilities are not regulated to have licensed nursing staff on duty or to dispense medications. Merrill Gardens is one of these assisted living facilities. My mother was given a medication daily that was to be used as needed (prn). She ended up with a medical crisis that was contributed to by this particular medication. There are two facilities in the area that have licensed nurses on staff 24⁄7. These are Sunrise and Belmont Village.

My Mom has been at Merrill Gardens for over a year now and we have had wonderful service from everyone there. The nursing staff has been able to help when she was sick. She likes the food (a very big deal for us) and they provide very personal service when asked for. The facilities are clean, comfortable and inviting. When I eat in the dining room, I can hear the other residents chatting and they seem to like it too.
Our family is very grateful that she is in a nice place that we don’t have to worry about.
