New owners since January 1, 2016. Tried the chicken chow fun, salt & pepper squid, and lemon chicken cooked by the new chef. Based on these two items, the old chef(owner) made them much better. The chow fun was much more oily and much less chicken than before. The flat noodles were not as fresh and does not have«wok he.» The lemon chicken was not bad but it taste more like orange chicken. The salt & pepper squid was good. Note that their special menu where a long list of entrée items priced at $ 7.50 are no longer valid. I tried to pay with my credit card but it is no longer accepted. The free house soup with the purchase of 3-items or more is really bad. The soup taste like egg flower soup with MSG and thicken with corn starch.

Food was disgusting. Cheap meat that smelled like fish. We got three different dishes that all tasted terrible and of poor quality. We threw it down the drain. Yep $ 30 down the drain. Avoid!

3.5 Stars — Been going here as a kid from 1979 — different ownership now but the place looks the same as ever. Factoring in that there is no other decent take out chinese food in the area, this place does the job. Try the Beef Chow Fun noodles, and the potstickers. cooked pretty well and would try again.

Awful — the egg roll tasted like it was purchased frozen from Safeway… first bite of chicken was a wad of gristle… honestly horrible.

It’s a basic mom & pop Chinese place. Food is good.(I dislike the jarred garlic in dishes. Fish is fresh. Serving sizes are ample. Location– next to CVS

Good food. Good prices. Nice vegetarian options. Garlic sauce eggplant was wonderful. The cream cheese wontons were amazing!

I’ve just moved to this area and I’m so happy to find this Chinese food takeout place! Its menu and flavor is Chinese rather than American like the other Chinese food restaurants we’ve tried nearby. I like their soup… it’s Hong Kong or Cantonese style. If you like real Chinese food, go to this restaurant!

This place is probably the best Chinese food you can find around this area(unlike Cupertino where you have tons of choices). The food is not as oily as other places, and they do serve authentic Hong Kong style food especially you can read their«special» Chinese menu on the white board. Eat-in is not recommended, as the seatings are not too comfortable.

Much better than most of the other chinese places in the area. Did not expect to find this in the neighborhood.

Mediocre American Chinese. We only order the spicy non-breaded items. Mostly successful with this method! Nice people and fast cooking for takeout. Interior of restaurant is sad.

2.5 stars. I feel like this place is haunted. It changes owners every couple of years but the food always seems to be the same. You can’t beat the price at 3 dishes for $ 6 each as this includes meats and seafood. My family usually comes here when my mom doesn’t feel like cooking. We get tofu & fish, tomato chow mein, fried porkchops, and a veggie. If you get the 3 dishes, they throw in a soup for you. It’s just bone soup but hey, it’s free.

Double Yuck… I like to go to local businesses, tried this place the other night because I reallllly didn’t want to make dinner. But it was truly mediocre. I ate one of the gluey prawns, a couple of the sickly sweet pork bits. Filled up on the fried rice and later woke up with a bad headache.

Double luck is a decent Chinese restaurant for those living in Almaden Valley. They serve Hong Kong style Chinese food. The chef and owner is from Hong Kong, and he tells me he has been cooking for many years. It’s a mom-and-pop operation. The food is authentic Chinese. The flavors are usually decent. The produce is usually fresh. The dishes can get kind of greasy. They have an American menu separate from a Chinese menu. I usually order from the Chinese menu. There’s also a specials board on the wall. These are written in Chinese only, and I have to ask the owner to translate it. He is usually very accommodating. We eat at double luck when we want authentic Chinese food without the long drive to Cupertino.

Ye gods. I got an ad my mail for the New Double Luck. Decided to get take out to try them, as I was a little bored with my old standby Kowloon Kitchen and the slightly further out Lee’s Village. Ordered the fried prawn appetizer, the snow pea barbecue pork, and the Hong Kong style crispy chow mein. Asked how long they’d been there. Was told by the cheerful lady at the counter that the restaurant had been around ten years, but three under the current management. The fried prawns were good though the sauce had a tendency to separate. Then served up the main courses. The vegetables and shrimp were beautiful and fresh. But the pork in both the barbecue pork and snow peas and the chow mein was beginning to go rancid. Not the full-on this-will-make-you-sick rancid, but the rancid of cooked meat that’s been left in the back of the refrigerator too long«elderly tasting» rancid. I inherited my mother’s sensitive palate so I know when something’s starting to go off. The fortune cookies were the same way – they’d been kept so long the oil in them was starting to go bad. Called up the place to tell them. They acted like they didn’t know what«rancid» meant, but offered to replace the dish. Shrugged and asked for a second order of the fried prawns, as we knew them to be safe and it’s not like we were going to get our money back. Really feel sad about this. I think it’s in the space that was a bicycle shop when I was a teenager. The grocery store closed a couple years ago so the strip mall it’s in has been struggling on with just a CVS as its main draw. Obviously this place is struggling to get by and probably isn’t getting the turnover of ingredients that they used to. But sadness won’t make me go back. If for some reason you must go because a friend insists on it, I suggest going for items that are popular and either fresh or frozen like the vegetables and shellfish. Do not trust the pork.

Located in the back corner next to almaden yoga and cvs, this small restaurant satisfies my cravings. You can eat there or order take out. Double luck is my other kitchen. Whenever we don’t feel like cooking, we go and order a couple of dishes, cook some rice and voila! Dinner is served. Its cheap, portions are reasonable and it is very convenient to pick up. my four favorite dishes are… 1. Pepper fish fillets 2. Seafood tofu clay pot 3. Chow fun &4. Green beans with meat Each time we order, we endup with lunch and dinner for the next two days. if you’re feeling tired and lazy and want Chinese food, call and put in your order. It is usually ready in 15 min or less. :)

**** Update: portions are a bit smaller now than they were ½ a year ago; I think they changed owners. **** This small take-out restaurant is located next to my wife’s yoga place, and is quite the hole in the wall. We decided to give it a try, before reading the reviews on Unilocal. We were surprised as it was pretty good. We put in a to-go order over the phone, and the lady was pleasant. Most importantly, the food was hot and ready when my wife picked it up after yoga class. The food is different from other local places, as it is more«home style». But the food still tastes pretty good, and the 3-item dinner special which includes soup of the day is a good value indeed! Will definitely have her pick up some more in the near future

Deep in the heart of Almaden, is this surprisingly good Chinese restaurant. Putting my own reputation of knowing good Chinese food on the line, I can confidently say this place is a gem not many in the area may know about. This place has changed names or changed ownerships a few times, but every time I’ve tried it. The food was pleasure to the taste buds. This little shop is located on the right of CVS and can be easily missed. It’s right near a Round Table Pizza and there used to be a PW Market in there(RIPPW… you had the best fruit). Most of the parking spaces will be available in the parking lot due to the lower business activity on that end of the plaza. The location has a few tables are inside to eat there, but most of their revenue is from take out. They offer a ranged variety of Cantonese fare, and so far I’ve mainly tried their usual rice and noodle dishes, and a small sampling of other dishes outside of your customary Americanized choices. All I can say is everything I’ve eaten was good. I have some relatives that have hosted parties with food catered by them and it was excellent each time. They were very accommodating to requests of lower salt and oil usage. As I end this review, this is addressed to anyone in the area. If you’re thinking of going to Panda Express(weak sauce!) or need to fulfill your Chinese food craving, give this place a shot. It’s a 100% better.
