I used to work nearby and I love this place. I was checking back to see if it is still there and I’m happy to see it is. I will have to go by for dinner. Since I saw the comments on cleanliness, I checked out the restaurant on my SCCDineOut app. They scored a 93 last September which is a very respectable score. I’m looking forward to going back!

This is a GREAT location to get Chocolade Letters for any Dutch families looking to celebrate Sinterklaas on Saturday(Dec 5). They also have lots of Dutch treats and Indonesian spices. I didn’t try the food, but will be sure to next time I go. The service was friendly and kind.

I was honestly sketch at first because the place is old school but the owners are very nice! Food was really good and the cook asks how you want your food mild or spicy! I recommend the nasi goreng!

Nice family owned store. Small shop with Indonesian and Dutch food. I go here every other month to get my spices(bumbu). Priced reasonable…

I went here on a whim with my roommate after seeing this place pop up on Unilocal. We were interested in the to-go food and thought that Indonesian would be a nice way to start the year. Yanno! #newyear #newfood haha The place is owned by a very nice Indonesian family. They could tell it was our first time there and the owner asked us if we needed help. We were kinda confused as to where the food was so we just blurted out«we’re hungry» haha. The gentleman helped us out with our order and went to the back to whip it up. While we were waiting we glanced around at the fares: an eclectic array of Indonesian and Dutch goods. Although my roommate and I were interested in the food, most of it was in Indonesian or Dutch! Maybe we need an interpreter to help us next time. We ended up picking up some curry ketchup and pandan spread with our food. The Beef Rendang(beef stew in cocount curry) was bomb! The meat just fell apart and the curry was flavorful. We also tried the nasi goreng(Indonesian fried rice) with pork, chicken, and shrimp, and of course we had to turn up the heat! Delicious and incredibly hearty. My roommate and I kept eating until we felt like we couldn’t eat anymore… then finished everything. Definitely coming back to try the rest and to pick up new foods to add to our pantry!

Ori Deli sells indonesian foodstuff. they serve food inhouse too.(don’t know where though. didn’t see many tables). was recommended a swedish black currant drink(4) «Kristian regale» –sparkling juice with«fresh fruits, geranium botanical, beet sugar, and purified sparkling water» –taste like a grape sparkling cider., not too sweet –could be addictive. 3.5 stars

A small family-run restaurant with Indo-Dutch mini market. Ordered nasi rames for $ 11.95. Nasi rames: steamed rice, rendang(beef), tofu-bamboo shoots-green beans in coconut milk, serundeng(sweet toasted shredded coconut), crispy sweet potato, 2 chicken sate, chips and pickled cucumber. It was not bad but I didn’t like its chicken sate. The cucumber needs more vinegar. Get your Dutch products @ the market. Super nice husband and wife team. 3.5 stars!

Some people that have been here may say that this place is terrible But this is the best Indonesian restaurant in US that I’ve ever been! The service is totally number 1, feels like talking to old folks back home and get homesick right at the moment. The place may seem a bit messy but that does not mean that the food is bad and unclean I ordered bami goreng and nasi rames, they are so good, but nasi rames is the champion, the beef is so tender and the serundeng is perfect. I also ordered es cendol, it’s quite good. I’ll make sure I’ll be back when I go to San Jose again

This grocery store also sells food, but the review is for the groceries. They have some pretty unique dry goods and snacks that you cannot find in Ranch 99 or Lion or Marina. They even have huge selections of peanuts, chips(pilus, taro, etc), candies, chocolates, cookies, etc. They also have some«medicines» from Indonesia such as Minyak Telon, Minyak Kayu Putih, etc. This store is more Dutch-Indo as well(since Indonesia was colonized by the Dutch for 450 years until 1945), so you will find panekoek, hopjes candies, and other stuff that I remember my parents told me about. The owners are very nice and friendly too!

Ori Deli should not be allowed to exist. I only wish I could forget my experience there. Instead, I’ll describe the ways Ori Deli insulted my wife and me during our visit: 1. The stale, rotting stench of unclean room overpowered me. I do not think the restaurant area was ever cleaned. 2. Beep-beep hummm… Because Ori Deli smelled so bad, and(mistakenly) we did not walk out, we decided to just order 2 appetizers: Krompet and something I forget. We heard the appetizers being microwaved at the back of the restaurant. How did I know it was our appetizers? We were the only people in the restaurant. 3. My wife and I stopped eating our indifferently prepared appetizers after we found a black hair in them. I suppose it would have been too rude to have taken a picture? 4. Dust everywhere! There was an icky layer of dust over everything. I cannot comment on the Dutch food at the store portion of Ori Deli, but the layer of dust was extremely off-putting.

TOTALMOM N POP! If you were just walking by, you wouldn’t have even known it was a restaurant! They literally do not start cooking until you get there and order. My only indo food experience was in Paris and I was in love! There aren’t many authentic indo places in San Jose, this might be the only place! In terms of the food, for me, it was okay. Maybe I’m not a connoisseur of Indonesian food to realize good quality, but my dish was drowned in peanut sauce. The lemper and croquet was good and my friend’s dish was also pretty good. For us, the food was a bit too sweet, but the reason I would come back is to support the great owners. It’s moderately priced, we paid about 30 for a meal with drinks and appetizers. The rest of the joint is a indo-dutch supermarket too. I am a fan, I rate it 4 stars solely because of the character of the place and that the other dishes did sound good as well. I think I just ordered the wrong one!

Went for the first time yesterday, for dinner. As others have noticed, this place is buried in the corner of a worn out strip mall. Unless you know the name of the place, you’d never find it, as the only indication that there’s an Indonesian restaurant is the sign with the name of the place. This place is small. As in 5 booths small. It almost feels like you’re eating in someone’s home. A kindly middle aged woman took our order, and then we waited nearly 30 minutes for our food. I got the distinct impression that they have a very tiny kitchen, and the same woman might be the one cooking the food. The food was quite good. Really flavorful rather different than anything we’ve ever had before. We’ll definitely go back again.

Apparently most of the people on this thread have never been to Indonesia or Holland. My husband is Dutch and we have lived all over the world(literally) and I JUST found this place. It had a grocery store with everything we miss from Holland, cute little Delft touristy items and all kinds of awesome drop(licorice). Try the Schoolkrijt you won’t be sorry! The store also has everything you need for Sinterklaas from pepernoten to chocolate letters in purr and melk. I had lunch here with a Dutch friend who had flown in straight from Indonesia and he said the food(Nasi Goreng) was completely authentic. The couple are fascinating to talk to and they are extremely knowledgable and helpful.

Don’t let this mom n pop scare you by the way it looks. Walking in you will probably be confused/surprised like me and my partner. It’s a combo restaurant and Dutch Grocery store. The right side of the place is occupied by the grocery store and the left side sits the restaurant. Its the ultimate hole in the wall. The food is a no brainer. I am somewhat familiar with their food So I ordered the Nasi Goreng Ala Carte. It’s the cubed beef. It came out really good. The meat was tender and the sauce was really tasty. We also tried the Nasi Lemak and the chicken satay. All very good. The food came out in average wait time of about 10 – 15 minutes. Not bad. The owner is a couple that opened the store about 30 years ago with about 6 help staff. The husband told me that most of his costumers are repeat ones. Apparently for a small place like that it is more expensive to maintain it at full speed than at his rate right now. Mainly for fun. We wandered off into the grocery section after our dinner and learned a few things about the Dutch cravings. ie: The Dutch really love LICORICE! It’s licorice Mentos, licorice chocolate, licorice chocolate sprinkles and gawd so much more licorice stuff. We ended up buying about $ 70 worth of chocolates and sauce for my cooking experiment. Like i said don’t let the appearance of the place scare you away. Go for the food.

As for the restaurant they make some of the best Indonesian food I have ever had. I am very particular when it comes to Indo food, but this is some of the tastiest. I typically get the Nasi Goreng, or the Bami Goreng, both without shrimp because I refuse to eat seafood :] The nasi goreng is a type of fried rice similar to that of chinese fried rice minus all of the peas and carrots, and the Bami is like chinese chow mein. Their chicken satay is delicious with their peanut sauce. Overall they have some delicious Indonesian food. The food is definitely different, and if you are interested in trying new things then Indo food is for you! The grocery part includes some great Dutch/Indonesian finds. I love the frozen croquettes which are deep fried and filled with meat, mashed potatoes and some veggies. They also have great chocolate from Holland and other delicious sweets. Great store overall!

White folks… you will probably get grossed out eating here. Mexicans and Asians… we understand why it looks the way it looks, we won’t hate, but we’ll still wipe down our utensils with our napkin…(like that will really kill all the germs). This was our first venture into a true Indonesian restaurant. We’ve done«Malaysian/Indonesian», but that’s not the same really. It would probably help to go with someone Indonesian if you know one, since the menu descriptions all sound the same. The front of the store is a tiny Dutch/Indonesian grocery store. I think the Dutch and Chinese lived in Indonesian, so their groceries are inspired by both. The restaurant is in the back. The owners are an old Indonesian couple, and it feels like you’re eating at their house. We ordered the rice stick noodles and the combo plate(top item on the right side of the menu). The food was really tasty, and it’s served exactly like how your momma would fix a plate for you if you came home to visit. With the Trubate coupon($ 10 for $ 20 worth of food), our bill for 2 entrees and enough food to take home for lunch the next day, came out to $ 2.77. Great deal. I’d come back here again to try the other things on the menu, just to see what it’s all about.

The World According to Noelle Allergic Girl’s Guide to Life I came here yesterday for lunch. It was an overcast day and I was in need of some serious comfort food. I’m very picky about my comfort food on cold days. My cold day comfort foods consist of either Indonesian Food or Jewish Food(Matzo Ball Soup). My order: Nasi Goreng which is pan-fried rice with pork, shrimp, and chicken, served with mixed pickled vegetables and a large shrimp chip. Mihoen Goreng which is pan-fried rice noodles with pork, chicken and shrimp, topped with fried shallots. Saté — Two skewers of marinated pork barbecued and topped with a blended peanut sauce. and Indonesian Iced Coffee w/condensed milk. All the above mentioned orders I get not spicy, SANS the SHRIMP/PEANUTS because well I’m ALLERGYGIRL :) you know I’m allergic to the world. I also like shopping here at their Indonesian-Dutch market. I picked up some spice cake, waffle-caramel cookies, mints, salty/sweet tamarind seeds and Indonesian Iced Coffee. Ori-Deli is not fancy but I’ve been going here for over 20 years and its one of my favorite restaurants and grocery stores! Noelle’s Notes go to and purchase an online deal for $ 12 and receive $ 20 worth of delicious food– buy now, your tummy will thank you later! One of my favorite drinks is the Ice Tjendol — Coconut milk with palm syrup, mung bean gelatinand jack fruit.

I like Indonesian food. Real Indo food. And in the Bay Area there isn’t much choice. A few fusion restaurants, a few with an indo dish here and there. So there’s not a lot to choose from. Good thing that«the one» is really good! The place is not high class, in fact it barely looks like a restaurant. You walk through the Dutch/Indonesian grocery store to find a few booths and tables. Yes, they’re friendly. But what’s really amazing is the quality of the food. I have a Dutch/Indonesian background, so I’ve had the good home made stuff, been to some great restaurants in the Netherlands and the food here tastes like the real stuff. It’s worth the trip. I like the Sate, the Bami and the Gado Gado best, but my mom and dad(who also eat here whenever they can) like the tempeh and the Nasi Rames. My daughter likes the Lemper. Just to make it clear. When our family gets a choice for a birthday dinner. This is where we choose to go.

Ori Deli is not your typical restaurant, it is hidden in a small shopping center and looks like a small grocery stores more than a restaurant. I been going to this restaurant for probably 30 years and the Indonesian food have never disappointed me. I love this place and Bob the owner treats us like family. Enjoy the Gado Gado, Sate etc. Jeandol is to die for. Thanks Bob James
