I have been a customer since 2013. I needed the engine replaced in my truck & Gus did a fantastic job. Since then, Gus and Janelle have recently done the transmission and catalytic converter replacement on my truck, not to mention the oil changes on a regular bases. My truck runs and feels as if I just drove it off the car lot! Thank you sooo much! You have a customer for life!

I Unilocaled this place because I needed an oil change. It was close to work and I am always trying to support local business. I am glad I did. Gus was quick, courteous and very professional. 30 min in and out and the price is extremely fair. Found my mechanic!

I randomly searched google maps for a place to get an oil change and this just happened to be the closest place to my work. I’m really glad I went though.
The lady (I’m really bad with names, sorry) seemed a bit brusque over the phone and when I first got there. I said I needed an oil change and she said okay, didn’t try to upsell anything.
However, when they lifted the hood, they found that my battery had exploded. Yes, exploded. Acid had leaked everywhere and a lot of stuff was crusted. It was pretty old and it’s been really hot out lately, so not really anything to be suspicious about. They highly recommended replacing the battery, and luckily they had the right one on hand.
Overall, the whole process didn’t take too long. I got there around 10:15am and I was out by around 11 since I was the only customer at the time.
Afterwards, the lady ran me through some things to look out for with my car as far as future maintenance. She could probably tell that I don’t know anything about cars, and she was very patient in explaining to me the various things I should look out for and will want to look into replacing in the near future (the car has a lot of miles on it). She didn’t try to sell me on anything on the spot and really seemed like she was trying to help me rather than be pushy. I really appreciate her taking the time to explain what parts will need replacing and why, rather than just telling me I should replace things without explanation.
I don’t leave reviews very often, but this place impressed me enough that I want to tell other people to know about them.

I came in when they first opened in the morning with a tire emergency and they treated me well and got me back on the road again fast.

Just last week my RX-​8 and Sequoia are ready for new brakes and rotors, since I have known Gus for more than a year, he always answers my auto’s needs. As my mom’s MBZ S-​500 will see him more in the future (unluckily have to spend more. geez), so will my kids’ cars. Honesty and reasonable pricing and is what I desired, as of myself in service business.

I work in San Jose but live in the East Bay. I was taking a trip to LA and needed my car’s oil changed. I went on Unilocal,read reviews and ended up calling Performance Auto Repair. I spoke with Janelle — she knows customer service! She was polite, enthusiastic and happy to have my business — and I could drive over at my convenience. There are several things I look for in a business: one is customer service, the other is knowledge. I felt I was in good hands with this business and would return again. Thank you!

I drove to Performance Auto Repair because I had an overheating problem. The issue started to be more and more pronounced in the past 3 to 6 months. For some reason my car was overheating and I tried to understand what was causing the problem but I wasn’t sure. The engine temperature would go past 220°F, even when driving at 65mph on the highway in the morning. Sometimes the temperature would reach 240°F or even 260°F. The only solution would be to pull over to keep things under control. The situation was really ugly and I really started to feel something was terribly wrong with the electric fan, the cooling fan relay or something else related to the cooling. Gustavo diagnosed the problem and he claimed that my engine gaskets were blown. He said it would cost me $ 1600 to have the gaskets replaced. I was shocked by what he diagnosed and I really didn’t want to spend that kind of money … after all, the problem was overheating (not oil leaking). I spoke to my coworkers and one of them told me to try his mechanic. I drove the car to that guy’s shop. Within 15 minutes he diagnosed an old/​bad radiator. The radiator was replaced for $ 290 (including parts, labor and taxes). All in all the overheating problem is gone and I saved $ 1300. I’m not a car expert but I have some instinct and when the logic fails, I think twice. Gustavo is nice but he would not have solved my problem. I would have spent $ 1600 and still have the same problem.

I took my car to Performance Auto Repair to have my BMW tuned-​up. In speaking with the owner, Gus, I was impressed with how knowledgable he was with my car. He was very familiar with BMW’s and his prices were very reasonable. As a mechanic, he came off very honest and personable. I felt comfortable with him and will definitely be back to get more work done. It’s hard to find a good shop run by a mechanic that cares. Looks like Performance Auto may be one of them. I’ll be back!

Performance Auto Repair is my go to San Jose auto shop! I moved to the area recently and my car broke down on my way back from work… in the rain :/​Not fun, when you’re exhausted after a 10 hour work day, know hardly anyone in the area and broke from moving.
My car and I made it to O’Reilly Auto Parts and they helped me get a hold of a mechanic. The first place we called was open for another 2 hours but wouldn’t pick up the phone; I was stranded in the O’Reilly parking lot. Then, we tried Performance Auto Repair, Gus and his crew came right over and spotted the busted water pump pretty quickly. I had my car towed to his shop and it was ready close of business the next day! It was amazing!
Gus and the mechanics were friendly, knowledgeable and fast. I was really impressed with how honest and straightforward Gus is and how reasonable the prices were. I am so lucky to have found them. They even called to make sure the car was alright the day after; I am for sure going back! Thank god for Gus, my parking lot hero!
