Pretty good! Rice cake dishes are very authentic. Steamed buns are ok. My favorite is their eel dish, Xiang You Shan Si.

My brother and I split the dumplings, chow mein and the fat extracted pork rump. The dumplings here are better than most places that I’ve had. The chow mein would have been perfect if it came with some tasty meat. As for the pork rump, it was too dry for my liking. I guess fat extracted just isn’t for me, lol. Overall my experience was good but nothing has me itching to come back for more.

I came her specifically for the XLB or Soup dumpling. And I wasn’t disappointed ! It was so delicious, I ate almost the whole order by myself. The soup inside was hot and flavorful with delicious meat ! Mmh. The dumplings skin wasn’t too thick where it took away from what was inside but instead complimented it as a whole. The shrimp that we ordered was sweet and a bit dry. I wish I could remember the specific name. But for the price around $ 13, it was a fairly small order. Deep fried dumplings, were filled with almost the exact stuff the soup dumpling was filled with. It was just okay. This dumplings wasn’t made with the tapioca type of outer layer ! Sorry if my descriptions sound funky lol The fire Chicken wasn’t spicy at all. Lol and it was dry as well… So there’s not much to say about that dish. My brother order the hot and spicy soup. He said he very much enjoyed it but after it cooled down all he could taste was alcohol? And it kind of soured his mood from there on out. Lol The chow mien was actually pretty good. I loved the huge noodles and it had a lot of flavor to it. If I were to ever return, I would def just get the XLB and some chow mien lol

This place really is a hidden gem of yummy and authentic Shanghai cuisine. I came with my family in a party of 6 and so we ordered the set for 4 with some extra dishes. The sauces and flavor tend to be more savory and sweet, which isn’t really my thing but the food was still really yummy anyways. My favorite dish was the dessert at the end which was sweet rice soup and small Tang yuan, which are glutinous rice balls filled with black sesame. There weren’t as many tangyuan as I wanted but it was still yummy. The entrees were all very filling though as I mentioned before, they were a bit sweeter than I preferred. The place is usually not too busy as most people tend to go to Ma’s restaurant instead. It is a nice alternative if you don’t feel like waiting for a table. They also give free Xiao long bao if you go with a senior citizen. I went with my super cute granny so 8 yummy xiaolongbao for me!

I took my family here for dinner. This is their first time trying out Shanghainese cuisine. We ordered: *Small Clay Pot Wonton Soup — we had this as our appetizer. I love their wontons and broth. It was light, yet flavorful. *Xiao long bao — it comes in 8 dumplings, very juicy, tasty and delicious. I have had better Dumpling Kitchen in SF, but this is one of the best places for XLB in SJ. *Shanghai Chow Mein — slightly on the sweeter side for me, but my family loved it. I have always loved Shanghai style chow mein for its thick noodles. *Combination stir fried veggies — not their best dish! I didn’t like the added fried dough balls in this dish. It was too mushy to eat and just didn’t taste good. I would have liked it more if it was just a veggie dish. *Sweet and sour pork: the meat was super tender. It was tangy and sweet at the same time. Again, my family loved it! We enjoyed the food and service was fast and efficient. I would definitely come back for more, especially for those pan fried pork buns everyone is raving about!

This is legit Shanghainese food, tastes just like my grandpas cooking. Coming here makes me homesick. Must get the spring rolls. Nothing like Americanized Chinese egg rolls. Duck is also very good and so is the soy sauce fish. Everything I’ve had here is good and legit Shanghainese home cooking.

I hate waitress that is pushy. We had 6 people in our group. We ordered 3 main dishes, a large soup, a pan fried noodle, and whole bunch of weekend dim sum dishes. Besides, the sign at the entrance said if we spent more than $ 60, an order of xiaolongbao was on the house. We knew there were already too much food for our appetite after factoring in the free dish. Despite we said we could add more later if needed, the waitress repeated several times that 3 main dishes were not enough for 6 people as if there was a minimum order requirement at this place. We almost had to argue with her that the dim sum and noodle dishes would make up the difference. Then when the bill arrived, the xiaolongbao was added to the bill and a 15% service charge was added to the entire bill. We would have paid for the free dish if we didn’t check item by item. I bet the waitress knew the tip was guaranteed so she wouldn’t mind to risk offending the customers by pushing for a bigger order. When we challenged the charge on the free dish, they split the bill into two and asked us to sign on both. We decided not to pay with credit card because they actually didn’t cancel the charge they just split the bill in two so they still had an option to bill us later. I know we can always file a dispute with the credit card company later, but why take a chance when you can avoid getting into a possible dispute in the first place? Now about the food. They were just average. Shanghainese cuisine leans on the sweet side which is not my taste anyway. I probably won’t eat there again given our experience with the waitress and the bill. Bad intentions or honest mistakes do not matter when I don’t plan to go back.

The Shanghai dumplings are really good. Egg rolls are okay nothing to rave about. I would come back to try the lunch specials and to get an order of Shanghai dumplings to share. If you are looking for dim sum with variety I would not come here as they don’t have many options.

I came here still craving for XLB and Pan fried dumplings from LA, boy was I let down! XLB had the thickest skin, glued to my teeth, greasy soup. The pan fried ones are even worse, the top portion was not cooked!!!

Their xiao long Bao were so good! I’m so glad i stumbled upon this place. All thanks to my fellow Unilocalers! I was craving dumplings and this was totally worth it. The xiao long Bao were hot and steamy! I thought the filling was well seasoned. I’m not a fan of pork but I would definitely eat this pork filling! I also ordered the Shanghai chow mien. And boy was that delicious. I would have licked the whole plate clean if I could. This was a surprising dish to me since I didn’t expect it to come out with all the sauce! I don’t know what their secret is but the noodles were so flavorful and just talking about it makes me drool! I also thought the wonton in clay pot was good too. I mean it was simple but it just tasted great! The soup was a clear broth with seaweed inside. This place is really tiny! But I think they do reservations! I would definitely come back for more!

4 stars just based on the Shen Jian Bao(pan-fried pork buns) — decent flavor, crispy bottom, sesame and shallots on top. We also ordered the Shanghai Noodles, which were a bit too sweet for my liking. I definitely want to come back to try the XLB’s because I did see other people eating them and it looked like they enjoyed them. Overall, good service and fairly clean. They have a couple of bigger tables in the front but most of the tables seat 4 people. The restaurant isn’t too big but it allows the servers to get to everyone in a timely manner. FYI cash only for $ 25 or under.

We had a lovely lunch here on a Saturday. Almost everyone dining was having this dish that looked like tofu in a yellow sauce and a plate of greens. I think they have a prix fixe menu. I hope to try it next time, because everyone seemed to be enjoying it. I love that they will put several parties together at one large table if they are crowded. Very practical. We had pork XLB,(of course), spicy wontons, which were different that what we had at Din Tai Fung. These were lots of greens and pork with a peanut sauce. Also had a big plate of combo fried rice and green onion pancake. We felt like fat Americans eating all that starch while the healthy Asians were having mainly protein and greens with a sparingly amount of carbs(rice, dumplings, buns) on the side. Next time.

Food hovers between average to below average. DON’T GET(Below Average): –Smoked Fish Appetizer: the fish was hardened and too sweet. Not authentic at all. –Wuxi Style Ribs: a disaster. A dark overly sweet sauce couldn’t conceal the poor quality of the meat. –Red Chili Pepper Chicken: another failure. The chicken pieces were tiny, fatty, and also too boney. Hardly any edible lean meat at all. MEHHHHLIST(Average): –Sauteed Shrimp: not impressive, a pass. –XLB: alright. The meat filling was very mushy for my liking. It is soupy for sure and bigger in size than the ones from Ding Tai Feng. But I have had better frozen XLB than those… –Fried Pork Bun(Sheng Jian Bao): again, mushy filling. The bottom was not crispy. But compared to the other foul-tasting dishes we got, this is probably the more authentic and better dish we had that day. Overall. I’m quite disappointed with the meal and the quality/authenticity of the dishes. The claim that this place has«the best XLB in the south bay» is quite delusional… The food is really average — where does the«best» come from?

My friends and I tried Wuxi spare ribs, Clay pot rice with vegetables, spicy tofu. They are all very delicious. Even the place is not very big. Staffs are very friendly, many Chinese will come here. During eating, I heard about sounds of firecrackers, which make me so happy! Wuxi spare ribs: good texture on the skin, and a little sweet and juicy~ Clay pot rice with vegetables: the rice is okay and the meat inside is special cooked. spicy tofu: very soft and spicy. malantouxianggan: so so so delicious with rice.

Portions were really big, and the servers were surprisingly nice for a Chinese restaurant. They started out by giving us an order of XLB on the house because my mom goes there pretty often. Pretty much everything is meant to be shared family style: — XLB: good texture on the skin, and the filling was well seasoned and soupy without being too greasy. — Sheng jian bao: pan fried buns with pork inside — Nuo mi shao mai: rice shao mai — mostly rice, minimal meat — not really what we expected — Mustard greens and tofu noodles — Stir fried shrimp: a pretty big plate; they didn’t have the crisp egg white crust that Shanghainese shrimp often has, but the flavor was good — Vegetable of the day: large dou miao — really tender, nice garlic flavor. Definitely asked for your greens to be less oily — Pork and vegetable rice: much better than regular rice — lots of pork fat goodness — Shanghai noodles: a huge plate, good texture, pretty well seasoned, and it had some pork and cabbage in it Portions are pretty big, and we had way too much food for 5 people at lunch. As usual, water and tea refills were hard to come by unless you ask for it, but that’s how most smaller Asian places are. Like any good Chinese restaurant, they do have beer. It’s a small space, so it can get crowded at lunch. They do take credit card.

The dish with the juicy plump shrimps(sauteed shrimps?) was excellent. That was my favorite of the night. The cha sao pastry was average. I was expecting something a bit sweeter, but the flavor was rather weak. Thick rice noodles: Had a very light flavor, but lasting aftertaste. Good as a palate refresher. Fried shrimp dumpling: These were delicious with the sweet and sour sauce. Overall, I thought it was quite average for Chinese food. Parking in this area is a pain. The plaza is completely packed, so you might need to park across the street.

My father-in-law likes Shanghainese food. When he comes to stay with us in San Jose, he wants to eat here. Every day. It’s a good thing the food tastes great! Otherwise I’d get tired of it pretty quick. There’s a vegetable dish, I *think* it’s called the loofah, that they prepare very well. I like the version that comes with little dried shrimps. So delicious, the flavor is very delicate. Staff is super friendly. Overall, this is one place I don’t get tired of eating at repeatedly. Two tongues up!

Honestly didn’t have high hopes for this place and my sole purpose in going was to try their warm soybean milk on a lazy Saturday morning :) Tried the salty soybean drink for the first time and it was really tasty. Tasted more like a soup than a dessert – the soybean drink had small pieces of chinese donut and green onion and was really flavorful. The sweet soybean drink was spot on and was a perfect end to our meal. We also tried the shanghai chow mein which was OK-didn’t have much toppings at all but the noodles were seasoned really well & not too salty. The spicy shanghai wonton was good but not spicy at all. The sauce tasted like pad thai peanut sauce and was actually pretty sweet. Service is pretty good and fairly fast. Prices are reasonable. Paid 25 $ for the 4 dishes mentioned!

Came here and got the Shanghai chow mein and the pork chop noodle soup. My first impression of the chow mein is that it looks as if someone accidentally spilled too much soy sauce over it. It tasted okay — not overly salty. I think the restaurant might be using the Chinese«dark» soy which is darker in color and thicker in texture, but tends to be lighter in saltiness. They are generally fermented for a longer period of time than their thin counterparts and often have added sugar or molasses, giving them a sweet-salty flavor and viscous texture. But what was disappointing was the soup noodle with the pork chop. Other than being too sweet, it only came with some chopped green onion as garnish and nothing else. The soup ended up tasting bland and sugary from the pork chop. Perhaps other dishes are better but the noodles can be hit or miss.
