SJSU North Garage

In my opinion this is one of the better parking garages at SJSU. This garage entrance is on 9^th and San Fernando by the Student Service Center and you do need to cross the street to get onto campus. I like parking here because it’s never as crazy and crowded compared to the 7^th street garage. I think there’s 6 parking floors, but student parking starts on the 3^rd floor, so don’t bother going on the 2^nd floor cause it’s all employee parking! There’s also a few free 30 minute parking, so park in here if you’re running a quick errand on campus or waiting for a friend. Also, this is the only garage on campus that has an elevator, so if you need an elevator park here, or else take the stairs! The downside of this garage is that it closes early at 11pm, so be sure to exit before then! Overall, I like this garage even if it means I have to walk all the way to the other side for my classes in Sweeney Hall — I usually always find parking. If you’re lazy or running late then park in 4^th street or 7^th street garage, I prefer this garage or 4^th street garage over 7^th! It’s easy to get in and easy to exit, whereas 7^th street garage is usually a struggle and annoying. But just beware all SJSU parking structures are a struggle during the first few days/​weeks of school. Also, be sure to purchase a semester or daily parking permit, or else risk getting a parking ticket! Daily permits are $ 8, and semester permit is about $ 200, so if you have 4 — 5 days of school I recommend you getting a semester permit! I’m not sure how much hourly parking is, but I think it starts at $ 2 for an hour? Just get a semester permit… or take the bus if you don’t want to struggle with parking!

Last semester I was enrolled in courses from 9−12pm Monday through Thursday. This meant I would stalk peers to their cars and circle around like a vulture at 8:20am just to find parking by the time my class started. This semester I have class at 7:30 am and another at 3pm; there is no issue finding parking at all. I guess it’s all about timing!
The lanes are wide enough for two lanes in each row, but I feel that there should be stop signs put into the structure. There’s plenty of times when I’ve had the right of way and stupid drivers would quickly accelerate from a full stop to 30 mph just to turn the corner before I came, hoping to «steal» whatever parking spot was available. Top floor (6^th) is ridiculously frustrating to maneuver in; I’m frightful for the safety of my car! Parking employees would constantly monitor the premises, so be sure to buy a parking permit. It’s $ 8 for an all day pass and I believe $ 1 for every half hour. Cash and card is accepted in the machine.

Oh SJSU North Garage. I love you on certain days but I hate you all other days. Let’s just say… you are too tight for my giant van. I love that you have 6 floors. However, student parking starts on the 3^rd floor. I love that I can find parking super easy on a Friday early morning. However, on Tuesday, Wednesday when I arrive at 10:30, you make me circle for 30 mins or more before giving me a parking spot. I love that you are so close to campus, there is no BUT on that one :)

6^th floor (top floor) is no roof AND the isles are so tight its impossible to maneuver my van through.
This is definitely a love hate relationship.

Never have I had to complain about this garage. I usually drive to school early in the morning where there are hardly any cars coming in so I avoid all the hectic traffic other students or staff deal with. Pricing is fair I suppose, running at $ 2 per hour or $ 8 for the entire day. I choose this parking garage because so far every semester I’ve started my day in the Engineering building or end there so its very convenient. There are 2 staircases plus an elevator for each one for those that don’t enjoy taking the stares or notice that one staircase is jammed with students.

Not my favorite garage but there are more, in my opinion, than the South garage. Easy to get into also.

Most of my classes are in the BBC and IS, so this is the most convenient place to park for me. I also like that it has 6 stories, with the 1^st floor being the student services center. I much prefer a weather-​resistant parking garage over an outdoor parking lot where your car can get machine-​gunned by seagulls and bake your car under the hot sun. Sure, the permits are very expensive (compared to how I used to pay $ 20-​$ 30 in community college), but at least I can see that the money is going to good use as I often see «parking services» employees patrolling the garage.
Why not 5 stars? Because I think this parking garage could use some stop signs and/​or speed bumps in a lot of areas besides the entrances/​exits. I can’t tell you how nervous I get every time I pass by a perpendicular lane as I’m going straight because a lot of young crazy drivers don’t look both ways before hitting their accelerators! Otherwise, I’m very happy with the generous spacing in the parking garage. I don’t have to squeeze myself out of my door or make extra adjustments to pull in/​out of a parking space.

This is the best parking garage for State. The layout of the garage was well planned out, and it is easy to go in and out of it. The top floor is a bit tight, but there are 5 floors to park on (2 – 6). As long as you get there before 10am, you should be able to find a parking spot easily.

Covered parking, directly across the street from San Jose State. Lots of parking spaces available when classes aren’t in session, but you still have to pay, 24÷7÷365. All-​day permits are $ 8, or student permits are available for ~$ 200 for a whole semester.
