UYE: East San Jose Good Times – Vietnamese Cheap Eats and Coffee

First off, I want to thank Betty N. for putting together one of the best UYE’s I’ve been to in a long time!

Betty thanks for hosting such an awesome event. You are too funny and crazy! You are a highly entertaining hostess! And thanks for introducing the chicken curry at Paloma since it’s way awesome.
Apparently a Betty event includes Grey Goose & cupcakes. I didn’t drink but her cupcake was yummy.
I never been to a sexy café before and my friend was supposed to take me to one for a long time but never did! That was really interesting. Too bad none of the girls were cute or hot.
The first café we went to, the platinum blonde chick totally kept tricking me because she looks like my friend except that chick didn’t have an ass.

As usual Betty know how to throw down a wonderful event. Had great time, great food, and with great friends. Everything was carefully planned out by the lovely and hot Betty. Maps was provided and GG shots was taken. Another fun night with friends. Thank you Betty and I can’t wait for your next one.

When attending a Betty event, you get lucky.
Literally.
You score BIG. Not only do you enjoy great company and good times, but you get cheap eats. Additionally included with your experience, is a map, a tour guide, GG shots, and cupcakes. You heard me, all this in one sitting! Mo Money, Mo Money, Mo Money!
I digress.
I only made it to PART of the East San Jose Good Times. I sampled some chicken curry at Paloma Café. Sauce was flavorful, chicken juicy, and french roll useful. All I wanted to do was soak soak soak! Everything looked great, and I want to go back for the beef cube salad dish, and the Latin guy who spoke Vietnamese. Wow. He was my favorite attraction!
Seriously, this girl should print and sell shirts that read «I am part of the Betty Fan Club.» I guarantee she will make a killing.
Sign me up for the FREE 99 special on those t-​shirts, Betty. I’ll make sure to wear it to the next Unilocal event!

It was good times. It was the best of times. Hell, it’s always crazy times when Betty is on the loose armed with nothing more than her boisterous personality and bottle of GG (I don’t know which is more intoxicating). And you know that where she leads a party is sure to follow… along with good eats, lots of vodka, and generally, but not this time around a dance battle between our lovely hostess and the depressingly absent Joon.
Oh well, next time.
I kind of like Café Paloma. or rather I like Betty and her Costco sized bottle of GG at Café Paloma. The trick is that for the following shots, you take other people’s shot glasses to fill. So you effectively have four or more shots for the price of one. You know me, I love me some noodles. So I had to have the the egg noodle soup with seafood and it was pretty good. After 5 shots of GG everythang tasted good. I wish I could have stayed longer…
But I did catch up with the rest of the crew after they left the apparently smoke free coffee shops for more drunken shennanigans @ kojis. Mental note. not all coffee shops are covered in a fog of cigarette smoke.

If there three things to say about Betty’s events they are:
— Incredibly well organized
— low cost good eats
— sexy sexy and more sexy
Oh…and one more thing… it’s never a Betty event without the infamously dangerous Grey Goose.
This time around there was a waiting list… A waiting list… can you believe it? For an unofficial Unilocal event. That’s just unreal, ad as always, the place was packed. Will have to write a detailed review later, but for now, just know this:
It doesn’t get any better than this.

I almost missed this event since I got lost and arrived about an hour late. Thankfully, there were still a couple of seats left by the time I got there. The host, Betty N. found me a place to sit. This was my first time meeting her. The event started out at Paloma Café first where there was a huge party of about 40 – 50 Unilocalers.
I didn’t get a chance to say hi to some people like John Michael C. He was busy drinking and being the center of attention and I didn’t want to interrupt him. He left after Paloma. He was engaged in some kind of drinking game along with a bunch of other Unilocalers.
Connie C. was there but I didn’t see her. I was in so much of a rush to hurry up and eat, that I didn’t have the chance to talk to those who weren’t sitting near me. I wasn’t trying to ignore anyone I didn’t say hi to. You know who you are.
I’ll write more about Paloma later separately. We all just ate there and most of the Unilocalers and their plus ones were doing shots. Everyone was having lots of fun taking pics, talking, eating, and laughing, and drinking of course! The crowd was pretty loud and rowdy but in a good way, some of you Unilocalers are crazy, lol!
I literally had only 15 minutes to eat my Phở and drink my margarita before we left for the next place. A list was given out to two coffee shops along with a coconut cupcake from Betty that someone gave me.
I still managed to say hi to a few Unilocalers I met before and met some new ones. I sat next to Jo H., Dennis O., and was near Eli, Tetsu, Bobby, and a few other people I met before at other events. Michael was one of them. I met a few new Unilocalers who were also cool. I can’t recall everyone’s names. Sorry, I suck at remembering people’s names usually.
The second place I don’t recall the name of, but the waitresses there were dressed in skimpy lingerie. Everyone was served a beer which was odd to me since I thought it was a coffee shop. I’ve never been to a Vietnamese coffee shop, so this was an interesting experience for me. To my surprise, some people were smoking inside. I thought it was illegal to smoke inside any place in CA. Anyways, we didn’t stay for long there since there was some kind of problem with the service I heard.
The third place we went to was Miss Café which was a much bigger and nicer coffee place. Most of the Unilocalers who were at Paloma and the other coffee place came here for their last stop. Actually, it was the last stop for me. I left around 11:30.
I heard that the other Unilocalers were planning to go to some karaōke spot. I don’t do karaōke and I don’t like listening to bad singers so passed. Maybe I should’ve come just to see how people sing when they’re drunk. Many people at this event had quite a bit to drink. Lots of shots were done. I didn’t do any shots though, I just had a margarita at Paloma as I can’t drink alcohol straight. Maybe next time I should go just to have a good laugh at some of the drunken antics of my fellow Unilocalers, lol.
It was great meeting Betty, she is very energetic and fun. She’s cool and very friendly. She kept coming up to everyone to see how they were doing. I’ll probably come to another one of her events next time she hosts one. This was my 6^th UYE I think and by far the biggest and craziest one!

I was so happy to see so many Unilocalers turn out for my second event. It was great seeing familiar and new faces.
