UYE: HH to the Izzo! – Happy Hour @ Izzo Restaurant

About 70 Unilocalers showed up to bring ‘HH to the Izzo’ and try some tasty fusion food! It was such a pleasure co-​hosting this event with the Slumdog himself, Deep S. Any chance we can get, we want to help local businesses and gather together some of our favorite people. Of course this event couldd not have been successful without all the parties involved, so thank you’s are definitely in order.

A HUGE thank you to Izzo for hosting our large Unilocaly group. As you can imagine, it’s no easy task to serve a roomful of 70+ Unilocalers as well as the restaurant’s regular patrons. The place was completely packed to full capacity. Izzo generously provided a 15% discount on all food items as well as complimentary iced green tea with a hint of lychee. Very refreshing!
Unilocalers enjoyed pork belly quesadillas, beef noodle soup, and other Taiwanese fusion specialties. Izzo was able to get constructive feedback on their dishes, some tried and true and others that were brand new. The staff did an excellent job assisting everyone with recommendations and being their friendly selves. Even the owner Frank personally met guests and worked as a server that night. It’s thanks to his generosity that we were able to put on this event.

Alex the Magician was there to keep the atmosphere lively. He not only commands a mastery of magic but also keeps audiences laughing. Many thanks to this awesome guy for generously entertaining our large group free of charge. He also drove all the way from South San Francisco! Thank you to every single person who attended and made this such a fun event! Without you all, we would not have been able to bring ‘HH to the Izzo’. It was such an excellent time catching up with everyone, both familiar faces and a lot of brand new Unilocalers too! I was glad to meet folks who had ventured out for their very first Unilocal event. Let’s get together again soon, everyone!

To my most awesome co-​host Deep S., the South Bay’s very own Slumdog! This playa was handling check-​ins at the event like a BOSS and taking great care of all the guests. Thank you for doing such a great job! It was SO good, in fact, that many of the regular patrons thought Deep was the hired host for the restaurant. He’s that good!
TIP: The love of food can definitely bring some cool people together.

This is my first Unilocal event I’ve been to.
I got there a little late, so I joined one of tables. We talked about our favorite places and things we can do around here.
I’m so glad to make it to this event. Meeting new people, getting know more places in different areas and also trying new delicious foods, i was very satisfied.
Thank you for my roommate Denise to put this event together. I’m looking forward to participating next events!

I don’t give a lot of five stars but izzo definitely deserves it! I have tried many Taiwanese restaurants but none really satisfy the taste I expected. Izzo has very great food that tastes exactly what those food should taste like.
My favorite was the pork belly bun (gua bao) I tried this dish at mama Chen too, it was horrible. Overall, great service and great food

Denise and Deep were fabulous hosts… it take a lot to get all of us Unilocalers together (aka I want to try everything BUT only if its good and sometimes ‘Hangry’ squad… ok maybe that’s just me!) so I appreciate all their work and efforts. They are absolute pros!
Also, a HUGE thank you to Izzo. I was so impressed by the efficiency and friendliness of their staff. We definitely took over and to serve that many people wouldn’t usually be hard, except we all came at the same time! I’ve never served a table of 70, but that’s pretty much what they got. They’re total champs in my book. I’ll be back for sure.
Food was delicious… we had a table of 6 and didn’t know what to get so our server gave us his recommendations and we asked him to just order for us. Rarely do you get someone that just seems to know what you want to eat (even though I ask for it quite often) He was spot on.
Alex, you’re ridiculous… if you magically see this I wouldn’t be surprised :) Although its not on your page, you deserve so much credit for making the night so memorable.
And saving the best for last… I met the most amazing people. Special thanks to Rodney for introducing me to everyone. Ya’ll rocked my Izzo world… let’s do it again!

When I was informed of this UYE at Izzo I was excited because of two things, the Pork Belly Buns and Unilocal friends I have not seen for quite a while. I’ve been to Izzo a couple of times, so I knew what to expect and mentally decided on my order. We got there a few minutes after the scheduled event time and the place was already bustling with Unilocalers. Deep S. greeted us and showed us to our table; he could be a great host if he ever quits his day job. Denise L. made her way around the tables, mingling and ensuring we were taken care of. We spotted some Unilocal friends, so we sat with them, knowing the space was at a premium. I enjoyed the event thoroughly and spent some time walking around chatting with others, as we were somewhat scattered around. Denise mentioned that the restaurant had a hard time following through with her request to colocate the Unilocal party. Nonetheless, the restaurant owners surprised us with a 15% discount and a free ice tea with a check in, very generous indeed. The restaurant staff were very attentive and handled the masses pretty well. The food was as I remembered with a small twists on dishes I’ve had previously.
Special thanks to Deep and Denise for taking the time to organize this UYE, as I know how much effort it is to throw a successful shindig!

I don’t go to Unilocal events, official or unofficial, very often, so when I do, of course I am always hoping it will be a great time, and so far, I’ve not been disappointed! Thanks Denise and Deep for hosting this cool event and giving me a reason to come out to Izzo!
Deep got me seated with Claire and Aarize, who I had never met before, and later in the evening we were joined by Denise’s roommate Yukie. We perused the menus and ordered a few things to share. Between us, we tried the Chinese-​style ja jang mien, beef noodle soup, pork belly quesadilla, pork belly baos, and taro shaved snow. All items were very generously sized, so we definitely felt like we got our money’s worth.
And, you know, everything was super tasty too! It’s kind of hard to go wrong with pork belly, so the items containing it were naturally delish. Also very interesting was the ja jang mien… definitely would eat it again.
Everyone who served us was very polite and eager to please. I’m sure they felt squeezed given how many of us were there, but you wouldn’t know it by how gracious they were.
Speaking of gracious, Denise made her way around the tables to be an accommodating host as well, and right behind her was Alex and his magic tricks… didn’t know I was getting dinner AND a show!
Cool event… great food… I’d love to be at any party Denise and Deep throw!

It’s nice to revisit an old place and share some food and nice conversations with old friends.
Thanks to Denise and Deep for hosting this UYE. I particularly liked the Indian Lettuce dish myself with an extra garlic as requested.
Thanks guys for the effort in having us Unilocalers together under one roof. Also thanks to Izzo for the discounted dish and free tasty iced tea!

My first UYE and I had a blast!
Met a couple of Unilocalers — Claire W., Brent T., Yuki E. who happened to be Denise’s roommate and saw some familiar faces around. Denise took the time to go to each tables asking how the food was and just having a conversation.
Food was great. I haven’t had good Taiwanese food for a while so this was a good choice! Jajang noodles was really good and I’ve finally tried their Pork Belly Quesadilla which by the way was really yummy. Lots of meat which I like :)
Thank you Denise and Deep for putting together this event! I’m looking forward to the next one :)

Had a great time with my younger sister. Thanks for putting this event together Denise L. We enjoyed your company and conversation! Denise is such a friendly and sweet girl. Hoping to attend your next event in the near future. Maybe a Christmas theme next?

Denise and Deep (super door man!) put together a fun event with 30+ Unilocalers eating and mingling at Izzo in San Jose.
Tasty Taiwanese food was served by super friendly and speedy waitresses, and they even took a pictures with us!
