One of my favorite spots. Juan Hipp is a favorite along with the chai. If you’re near the area you should stop by.

I needed to meet a client and it was the perfect place to meet. The staff was very nice and the place was clean and welcoming. I have a great cubano coffee and my client had a yummy Chai latte. Thank you very much for excellent customer service and great drinks! I will be back.

Pour over coffee. What the heck. Loved it. Friendly staff and locally owned. Very nice setup. Only negative is the restroom door is too close to the front entrance… very awkward place to be. Walk out of the restroom and every customer is there to greet you with applause. Its a great coffee shop.

Unilocal First Dates Vol. 3: Coffeehouses that serve great food. So, you want to go on a fun first date without the financial expense and gastronomic excesses of an eight-course tasting menu or $ 200 tab for high end steakhouse and seafood fare, and North Beach Italian is out of reach. Ditto for Michelin-starred farmhouse bistros in Sonoma or Mendo, not willing to fork over the big bucks to dine at Chez Panisse in Berkeley or at the Farmer and Fox in St. Helena. And please, no crab shacks in San Jose, or lobster rolls in Half Moon Bay. You want to send a hipper, more casual-cool sort of vibe than that! What to do? Artisan roasted coffee. Craft beer. Wood-fired pizza. Historic. Spanish. Mission. It’s time to go Vertigo, baby. But first, the hike and wine. This is gonna be one great first date, don’t ya’ think? Saturday morning: hike to the top of Fremont Peak in the beautiful and rugged Gabilan Mountains. Savor the views, hold hands while descending from the rocky parapet at the summit. After the hike is over, let your date drive back. Because nothing says, «I trust you with my life» like letting him/her/him-but-sometimes-her drive down San Juan Canyon Road in your new Subaru. Saturday noon stop: Pietra Santa Winery, Cienega Valley. Splurge on $ 15 tasting flights, stand outside on the second floor patio and sip and sniff Signature Pinot Noir like a professional. Talk about soft tannins and floral afternotes and long, lingering finishes. Buy each other bottles of Dolcetto, then hand sign each others’ labels(in blood if your date is Goth). Because nothing says, «I think you are kind of sweet, but in an almond nutty and licorice spicy sort of way,» like a Dolcetto. Save DeRose for a second date. If there is one. Cabernet Pfeffer, it is an acquired taste best drunk straight from the bottle(just kidding about that one, Al). Saturday afternoon: share a wood-fired pizza at Vertigo, maybe the seasonal special, and then split a pint of microbrew. Because nothing says, «I want to share your microbiome» like using each others’ utensils and ingesting smudged saliva from the rim of a common glass. Right now, only beer is available. Offering a select list of really great local wines by the glass(if this is legal) would be even better.* Because nothing says, «I’ve got serious AVA game» like ordering a wine from the underrated but exceptionally awesome Hollister/Cienega Valley wine trail. Order twin cubanos — a double espresso shot blended with demerara sugar during brewing. But order them after the pizza, not before. Resist the urge to lift your pinkie finger while sipping. If the date is going well … switch to pourovers. It’s a date, so spring big for the 12 oz. Kenyan Nyeri($ 5) — a wonderful cup. Talk intelligently about vintage Probats. Compliment the staff on their new Synesso MVP Hydra espresso machine. But be sly about it, as if you didn’t really read about it on Facebook and Instagram ahead of time. Find a quiet side table, or go out on the patio. Read passages out loud to each other from Steinbeck’s «Travels with Charley.» Because nothing says, «I really like listening to the sound of your voice» like … well … listening to the sound of that other person’s voice. Post pictures and a «couples only» review on Unilocal. And watch the UFCs just roll on in … See? You’ll be on your way to Elite status(and quite possibly that second date) in no time! * Something like Pietra Santa Sangiovese, Pinot Gris, and Dolcetto; DeRose Continental Cabernet, Carneros Moon Merlot, and Alchemy Carmenére; Aimee June unsulphured Zinfandel, maybe a Central Coast Chardonnay from Calera to round it all out. Bonus: An aged Mourvèdre from Enz Vineyards. Because nothing says, «I will take care of you for a hundred years or more,» like an old vine wine from the Lime Kiln Valley.

I absolutely love this place! Great Coffee(basic cup of coffee roasted inhouse… Way better than Blue Bottle), Great Food(the wood-fired pizzas to the Cuban sandwich are perfect), Excellent Staff(super friendly) and the kind of Ambiance that keeps you ‘there’. Love this place

I didn’t have the pizza here but I was glad I could get a latte just before road race time and even happier Vertigo was right by where the race started!

The pizza was really good, but wish it was bigger or had a bigger size option. All the comments about sipping chocolate made me so excited to try, but they don’t offer it anymore. Overall the customer service was amazing. I’d definitely come back for the coffee and anything on the menu. Everything looked amazing

These guys rock. Every pizza I had is great, you can totally taste the fresh ingredients and off course the tough is the real deal. Add great coffee and you can’t go wrong. I sometimes drive 20″ just for their pizza and coffee, kid you not. Big fan since 3, maybe 4 years ago when I first was introduced to Vertigo.

We discovered Vertigo on a road trip to the Monterey region and now make it a regular stop on every trip. We are always on the lookout for a «hip», «cool», «Independent», 3rd wave, Coffee Roaster and this place scored on «all» categories. The coffee is excellent, I had an almond milk latte, and later some house blend to-go. The Barista took her time to make a «proper» cup, which included some nice foam art. Which is not an easy task when using Almond or Soy milk. I was impressed. My wife had some hot chocolate(also with foam /whip cream art) that she enjoyed. They offer«simple» but healthy food choices. On our latest trip we stopped for lunch. I had their take on a Vietnamese chicken Bahn Mi and my wife had a turkey club with tortilla soup. Both were made fresh and were very tasty, each included a small mixed green salad. They have a wood fire pizza oven, and though we didn’t have any, this trip, they did look delicious, we’ll have to work one of those into our next visit. Vertigo was a great discovery and is certainly worthy of a stop if your driving this route to the coast.

It’s a cute café with outdoor seating and dog friendly. The coffee isn’t horrible, actually pretty good compared to others i’ve had. But if you have cold brew on your menu, how do you not have any simple syrup to use??? Putting a packet of sugar into a cold brew would take days to dissolve. Ok a little dramatic in the days but anyone knows that sugar doesn’t dissolve easily in cold. When asked if they had simple syrup, the response was«no we don’t have that»…but they could have offered a small bit of hot water for us to make our own. Simple syrup isn’t that complicated, it’s sugar dissolved in hot water. But instead of thinking outside the box they negated and returned their attention to making other drink orders. Our bad too that we didn’t ask for some hot water, but it’s kind of hard to ask when they walk away to make a drink order. Didn’t try the food and it looks like other’s really enjoyed and that’s what they got their stars for. But as far as coffee, it’s an okay stop if you want anything other than a cold brew.

Amazing coffee shop find. A ray of sunshine on our cross-state road trip. If I lived close by I would go here every day. Dark roasted, but smooth coffee. I had the cubano with soy. It was so good I had to order another! I’d post a pic, but I drank it.

Food was excellent. You would never know it by the name. Initially we thought it was just a coffee shop. But, after reading the Unilocal reviews and seeing the pictures of the food offerings, we stopped in. We ordered the meatball sandwich– delightful! Very tasty with Italian and pepper seasoning. The bread was fresh and toasty! Not too much marinara. We also ordered the Caesar salad and tortilla soup. Looks like it’s a different soup each day. The soup actually had a kick to it — very nice. The Caesar salad was really good! Surprisingly fresh and tasty for just a salad. Nice miniature tomatoes and the croutons tasted just like fresh garlic bread. I ordered a decaf iced coffee and it tasted just like caffeine with flavor. That’s a first. Very friendly staff. Would definitely return.

I decided to stop here because of all the reviews. I saw the pizza oven outside so i had to try the pizza. I opted for the calzone. It was ok, I wished that I could’ve gotten more sauce with it cause it was kinda dry and the dough wasn’t cooked all the way in certain parts. I was going to get the coffee but my father in law ordered it first and said it was really weak. I trust him cause he literally goes out and tries new coffee places about 4 times a week all over the northern California.

Came across this little gem passing through San Juan. Ordered my usual latte and it surpassed my expectations. Absolutely delicious! Atmosphere: a laid back vibe with plenty of seating. Tables varied in sizes from intimate to space large enough for studying. Also, music was folksy/reggae ish which i love! Staff: the girl that took my order was adorable, she reminded me of snow white. my point is, she was sweet and was patient with me since i wasn’t familiar with their menu. The girl that made my latte was equally friendly. Food: haven’t had a chance to try it but the reviews are all great, can’t wait. Even though it’s out of the way i will most definitely be back.

This place has become our new stop on our way home from Santa Cruz. We love it! Cute little place, lots of food items offered(that I haven’t tried… Yet) I’ve been ordering hot mochas and they are consistently delicious and well made! As a former barista, I am not always happy with the quality of my beverages but I was thrilled. Friendly and quick service, too!

Great service, awesome staff and the food is just always great. I don’t think I’ve ever ordered any other drink except a Chai Tea Latte extra sweet. So my review can only be for that drink and let me tell you, it’s perfect! I will have to try the vertigo coffee soon though. As far as pizza goes, even with their insane toppings, I haven’t had one I didn’t like yet. Plus they have this amazing brick oven. Their breakfast choices are all delish, I feel like they use the best ingredients because it’s always fresh. I love the breakfast burrito. Their salads are awesome too, try the chicken caesar, it will change your life! Also, they do have outside seating, wifi and FREEWATER! haha

Great small menu and love the ambience. Whoever’s playlist is on the speakers, well done. Bunkered down on some work with black tea and the artichoke prosciutto sandwich that came with a small salad. It was wonderful.

The best coffee shop experience I have had to date! Coffee: Roasted and blended by wizards who seriously know their beans! Whether you get a house coffee, a dirty chai, an iced Kyoto, or some other crazy thing, these guys will make you remember it forever! Tea: Delicate and flavorful, but the real reason to go is the coffee ! Food: AMAZING artisan pizzas, including seasonal favors like fig with Gorgonzola baked in an old school brick oven that you will walk right by on your way through the front door! Gourmet sandwiches, wholesome, fresh and sweet pastries. Every ingredient is fresh, bright and flavorful! Recommended Snack: Iced Kyoto and the raspberry granola fruity bar. The iced Kyoto tastes and smells like a cherry tree in full bloom, but without any added flavors or ingredients. Just honest to goodness coffee and ice! Paired with the raspberry fruity bar and you may get some looks due to all of the pleasured moans you will be giving.
