St Leander School

I’m going to give this place a poor rating as they hired me for a job then told me I wouldn’t be used after having me commit my time to the job. I did a bunch of work preparing and got nothing for my time. Normally I do not ask for a deposit but I guess I better start doing so.
Beware when working with St Leander School.

I have 3 kids at this school, and we couldn’t be happier. My oldest started in kindergarten and is in middle school now, and he has benefited from a very kind and caring teachers, high academic standards, and great enrichment programs in art, music, computers, and athletics throughout his entire experience. The teachers get to know not only each student, but their families as well. It’s a friendly, diverse, and motivated community, and the kids have all flourished in this environment.

I was a student here at St. Leander School for 1 year, 8^th grade, back in late 80s. I got to say that the education was good because I experienced the difference after transferring from a public school. They had tons of homework and the curriculum was not as easy as the school I had transferred from. It was hard at first, but I was a good student and overcame the challenges. Soon enough, I was up to par with some of the other students in no time. I even exceeded expectations and surpassed some students! Upon graduation from 8^th grade (not sure if it is still done) some students are chosen to apply for scholarships to take with them to private high schools. I was going to Moreau that fall. Anyway, I met all the requirements except one! I had to be a student of this school for more than just one year! That’s the complaint I have about this school. Merit is merit, and I overcame so many obstacles that year, that I shouldn’t have been denied a scholarship. My parents were ticked off! My parents sacrificed to put me in a private school as they were immigrants with low paying jobs. This scholarship would have came as a blessing for my hard work! I hope they changed this!
Second complaint. The kids in that 8^th grade class were so cruel! Worse than public school kids, I may add. Many bullies. Now anti-​bully laws are strict! I wish that were the case back then! Can’t recall her first name but last name was Valentine, (and her friends Angelica, Freedom, Bryce, some guy w/​last name Jacinto, Shannon, and Catherine) anyway this Valentine girl used to bully and intimidate me into copying my work and tests! Why were Sister Stella and Sister Carolyn never aware of this as it happened in class?! I felt I had no one to turn to but my mom. Back then, bullying was seen as kids just being kids and was not taken seriously! One male kid in the class touched my behind, and I complained to Sister Stella. The bullying got worse because «I snitched»! To this day I am living bad consequences over this experience! I cry at the cruelty I experienced and have a hard time even trusting co-​workers flash-​backing this 8^th grade experience feeling i am made fun of behind my back. I will not put my kids in that school as I have horrible memories!

We have a son in the 4^th grade and a daughter in the 2^nd grade ending their 4^th year at St. Leander. The school offers one of the only Pre-​K at a Catholic School in the area. It has diverse student body, a strong community, solid academics, and extensive parental involvement. With a single class per grade level (usually 20 — 25 children per grade) the kids have an opportunity to form strong & lasting friendships, and receive individualized attention from the staff. The school frequently places children each year in excellent high schools (e.g. Bishop O Dowd). My kids LOVE, LOVE, LOVE St. Leander School, love their teachers, their friends and the school community. It s like their second home. We couldn’t be happier.

I currently have two children at this school. One in seventh grade, and one in fourth grade. Both kids started here in Pre-​K.
I am giving St. Leander five stars because it has been a great school. My childrens’ teachers have always been available when I had a question or a concern. They care whether or not my children succeed in school. The school is also small enough that it is easy to get to know the faculty, staff, and the other families. This creates a real sense of community at the school. Finally, I am happy that my kids, along with math and science, are learning about charity and caring for their fellow students.

I’ve been involved with this school about five years now, and it’s great! Caring staff and wonderful children.
