A couple of years ago, on a friend’s advice, I booked an appointment with Dr. Nicholas Batra in San Leandro for a complete eye exam. I had just turned 60 and was wondering what was in store for my vision as I got older. Dr. Batra conducted a comprehensive series of tests, informing me what each was for and how it worked. He never seemed to be clock-watching or impatient. After the testing we talked for a good 10 minutes about how my eyes were basically in good shape but nevertheless would need attention as the years went by. I left with confidence that I had received the information I was seeking when I went in, and that as needs emerged, Dr. Basra was the ophthalmologist I would be seeing again. Last week at my annual checkup, my MD suggested I see an ophthalmologist for a checkup and wrote me a referral. No need for a referral, I told him.(My health plan does not cover vision.) There is only one ophthalmologist I have any interest in seeing. Today I contacted Dr. Batra’s office via their website( ) requesting an appointment. I look forward to seeing Dr. Batra again and recommend him to people my age who appreciate being looked after by a professional who takes his time, communicates well, and cares.
