I’m not usually a Unilocal contributor but I felt compelled to do so based on the two comments here. My son is a patient of Dr McLean. I have not met him personally so I can’t provide any comments directly related to him. However, I can’t disagree more with the two contributors here about the office and clinical staff. I live 5 hours away from San Luis Obispo and I often have issues with my insurance company, referrals, prescriptions, etc. dr McLean’s staff is always patient with me, extremely helpful, problem solvers, and they always return my calls. It may take a little longer when they’re understaffed, but they have never not returned my calls. To the person who said that the office would not give them a refill without a visit, I believe that is common practice. Allergy reactions can be deadly, so doctors want to make sure their patients are treated appropriately.

Good luck getting an appointment. I called them just to get my prescription refilled and they refuse to do so without seeing me, and the earliest they’ll see me is a month and a half from now. Don’t waste your time, just see your physician.

The only allergist and immunologist in pretty much the whole county. Works maybe 3 days a week and has decided he no longer wants to work in the afternoons. Heaven’s forbid you need immediate attention. I went to him because I was having many issues with allergies and I kept pushing and pushing because I was not satisfied with some results, and he wouldn’t. The girls in the office looked at me like I was over reacting, and I would tell the doctor to test me for things and he would just say«assume that you have it and stay away from it». Not an answer. Supposedly I am pretty much allergic to the world. I just got a big sent to collections for $ 30.00 that I was not aware of. No courtesy call or anything, and I have insurance so I assumed they would tell me what was not covered either. So thanks for a small town doctor gauging me and still not giving me real answers. Allergies are symptoms, not the actual problem. He would have rather band aided all my problems than find the root of the issue. I went to my primary doctor and showed him everything I had from this office and he said«Stop going there. If I can’t treat you for an obvious auto immune disease(which Dr. McLean refused to test me for, and my primary doctor could identify it right away), then I will send you to a specialist in Santa Barbara.» So obviously, my primary doctor and cardiologist thought the lack of care was ridiculous. I can recommend a great primary doctor if anyone is looking, but allergist… not in this county.
