It was super cold out and I was being anti commercial coffee chains… Black Horse was at the right spot the right time! I love this place :) The seating by the fireplace was perfect for the freezing temps out — warm and cozy. I know that i was trying to avoid the commercial coffee shops around town, but i was craving«holiday spice» which i wasn’t sure BH was able to make for me. Fortunately, the barista was willing to try and see if we can manage to come close to making a cup for me of «holiday spice.» I went online to see if i can find a recipe and, of course we did. They made it and it came close to perfect! If it I wasn’t satisfied, they were willing to make another drink for me… I was good and it was satisfying. Great cozy spot and customer service! Must come here and check this place out when in SLO.

I have been a regular at Black Horse for a few years now. I appreciate that whenever I come in the manager knows me by name and starts my order for me before I even order. The drip coffee is very good and the service is always very prompt. I am definitely a fan.

Great service, cool barista took my order and helped me choose something similar to what I like. Simple darkhouse drip for 2.15 for 12 ozs. Cannot complain bout this spot at all.

I was in SLO for a week for work and, as I often do when visiting a new town(okay… technically I’ve been in SLO before. Once. As an acne-ridden high schooler 16 years ago checking out Cal Poly), I start looking for independent coffeehouses in town for a nice place to camp out, get some work done, people watch, and relax. The space inside was large and comfortable, with plenty of tables and chairs. The baristas were patient and friendly explaining what coffess they had and explaining what nitrogenated coffee is. There was a broad pastry selection, although when I visited in the afternoon, it was clear the case had been cleared out eariler in the day. The biscotti I got was very good — crisp on the outside but still tender inside and(importantly) not too sweet. And of course the Draft Brew Coffee. There was a very smooth consistency and even flavor. The creaminess of the nitrogenation process mellowed out the flavor, but for a light roast coffee(I don’t know if they use different beans/roasts every day, but it was a light roast the day I visited) might not have had been too light because I did find myself wanting more of that natural coffee flavor and sweetness and it ended up, flavor-wise, tasting a bit watered down. Will definitely make have to visit again.

I am not the biggest coffee shop kind of guy, but this place was nice. It was a touch warm inside, which I suppose is okay since in SLO you want to be outside anyways. The service was fine, and my iced americano was really quite good. I also got a scone with blue berries. After seeing some phots of them jam packed with berries I was dissapointed this one was a bit more normal in its blueberry containment. A good seleciton of coffee and the pasteris all looked fresh and the one I had was quite falvorful.

Can’t get enough of this place. The iced cold brew coffee is the best out there. Plus, everything they have is really good. It’s great to be able to sit outside at this particular location.

The pastries here are so good! The scone is crunch u on the outside but mouth watering soft on the inside! The apple cinnamon muffin– oh my goodness! Soooooo delicious. The Americano is tasty too. Plus they have a nitro coffee on tap, by far the best thing ever!!! The flavor of the coffee and the amazing sensation. After drinking are both worth the stop here. You don’t want to miss it!!!

I dropped by this place for the first time and I was very impressed with everything from food, service and appearance. It’s a welcomed changed from the over priced Starbucks that seems to be everywhere.

Not impressed at all. I got a caramello and my friend got an iced mocha. They make their caramel sauce in house. I thought it would be yummy but it had a super weird flavor. The foam on my drink was also not as good as I heard about. Just your average foam. My friend’s drink was also very«meh.» Nothing very special or yummy about it. Very sad that this place wasn’t as good as everyone said.

HUGE selection of baked goods. Tried one of the blueberry oat scones… Creative twist on the original… Moist and just the perfect amount of honey drizzled on top. Hot chocolate was just average. Large outdoor patio ample seating. Super friendly staff! Give it a try.

Nice chill place! Roomy and spacious for spreading out those Macs. Staff super cool and accommodating. Asked him to make me whatever and he made me a smooth velvety latte with sprinkles of brown sugar and cinnamon on top. The perfect topping to a latte and start to my slow morning. Environment is dog and people friendly. Make it a stop on your journey through SLO.

The final stop on the coffee(and ok, hot chocolate) crawl we went on to kill time in the morning, and definitely one of our favorites. SERVICE. A little slow, but they also are fairly busy, which is understandable. I’d rather wait a little longer for a quality, hand-made beverage, than get a rushed, sub-par one. COFFEE/HOT CHOCOLATE. They have coffee on tap, which is kind of awesome. I can’t comment much past that, but the boy was a fan of it for sure! Their hot chocolate was one of the better ones I had on our trip as well. Definitely a great find!

5 stars strictly because of the caramello! Get one. They put house made caramel in it, it’s so creamy and it beats the pants off of any caramel espresso drink. If there were a competition for the best caramello between this Black Horse and the one on foothill, this one would win hands down.

I see more trips to SLO in my future now that I have discovered BlackHorse! I’m so glad that I decided to stop by on a whim after driving past it one night. I had the carmella and a breakfast sandwhich– If I lived in SLO, I would be fat from coming here every day. The foam, the comfy chairs, the sausage on croissant. There is nothing that I didn’t like about this place.

Without fail, everytime I order a cappuccino from this location you can tell they put 100% of their efforts to make it a great one. The foam. Obsessed. The one flaw I’d like to note is the customer service. I know we ALL have our off days but every time I come in I am 1. Not greeted and 2. Not thanked. This is a pretty big deal when you work at a coffee shop. They seem more conserned with complaining about their work schedule than taking care of their customers. Five stars for the foam. Yum. Minus two because I’d like to feel more welcomed when I come here.

In a land of full of #fudg!ng hipsters, There’s nothing like seeing a REALMAN in a baseball cap and Jersey making some
bomb ass, very smooth, NOTBITTER… ~Coffee~
I think Noemi and I fell in love. I mean, the coffee is really good, really fresh, really aromatic and velvety smooth. And the dude making it, the real man in the baseball cap and jersey… hats off to you. I’m sick of the hipster guys in tight pants choking the lives out of their crotches. I want to see more of your kind. 5 Stars. Stay thirsty.

My new favorite coffee spot in SLO. While visiting from the Bay Area, I decided to stop by and grab a drink today based on the previous Unilocal reviews. I am really glad I did. Danielle made the best macchiato I’ve ever had. That isn’t just hyperbole. The coffee was dark(as a good espresso should be, but not burnt/bitter at all) the water temp and grind must also have been ideal because the flavor was just perfect. Coming from a guy who has frequented several dozen coffee shops in the Bay Area, that’s high praise if I do say so myself(and I do) So, outside of the incredible coffee — in case you needed any other reason to visit, the ambiance is hip, the seating arrangement is ideal for a coffee spot, and the service is fantastic! I now have another reason to get excited about visiting SLO(other than the beautiful weather, scenery and incredible tri-tip)

It’ll do. I love coffee and theirs is good, but a little bitter at times. They have some great chairs to sit outside and enjoy the sun and your drink. Take advantage until you have enough caffeine to meander around downtown. This doesn’t seem like a place you’d want to work or study, its situated for conversation.
