Cute little local spot, everyone was super nice and made us feel very welcome. I had a hot chai tea and a chicken panini both were delicious.

Those bagels are killllller! Wow. That is how a bagel should taste, with toppings on both sides! Very happy with it. The coffee ain’t bad either. I would come back to get more breaky. Their breakfast paninis look good.

Growler full of cold brew for 12 bucks which is a great deal. But 6 dollar refills in the growler when a normal cold brew is 6.20?! Not the best deal in the world. Should really be a bigger discount… But their coffee is delicious and staff is very courteous and always friendly! Always clean and fully stocked with awesome baked goods. Cold brew and a croissant sandwich!

8 $ for a muffin and small coffee. no thanks! It’s cheaper at Starbucks!!! The actual barista was very sweet but the young lady working the cash register was very rude and unclear. However the coffee was delicious, It’s too bad seeing local places do poorly

This is my favorite coffee shop in SLO! All of the staff are super friendly! They are always super welcoming and in a positive mood. They have some of the most delicious drinks I’ve ever had! Always great quality. The food is amazing as well, especially the pastries. It always looks very clean and organized in there as well. Tough to keep up for a busy coffee shop, but they do a great job of it! Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for an amazing beverage, something delicious to eat, and great service!

I used to get my coffee at the other famous coffee place, but have to say that I truly prefer Blackhorse Coffee over the other. The coffee just tastes better — more rich, less bitter — maybe because it’s so fresh tasting. The pastries definitely are fresh, baked locally and delivered every morning — definitely no comparison to the other place. It’s always clean, and the staff is friendly and accommodating — truly respectful to clients. My favorite… they make their own whipped cream — it is so good and velvety smooth. Definitely the BEST in SLO County.

A great place to drink good coffee, have a pastry, and relax. There’s free wi-fi, so if you’ve got to get some work done, or browse the intertubes you’re covered there, as well! The double-sided fireplace for inside/outside use is pretty handy. The staff has always been friendly and helpful!

My favorite place to study in SLO! Great vibe, coffee, and baked goods! The staff is awesome and so accommodating. Clean, friendly– perfect place to socialize or relax. I recommend the vegan pumpkin chocolate chip muffin! Don’t forget to try a panini. This location is the best kept secret in this small town.

I have had very mixed experiences here over the years. I used to work next door so I was here 3 – 4 times per week. Now I go less frequently, but always find myself disappointed when I do stop here. The espresso and related espresso-based drinks are just not that good. Everything just tastes kinda… watery? Their baked goods are very good, and they have outside sandwiches brought in every day that are delicious. Customer service used to be pretty bad, but has been slightly more friendly the last few times I’ve been in here. All in all, a good local option for those trying not to frequent Starbucks — just don’t expect great quality or consistency.

This location reliably had a seat to study at whenever I needed it! With outlets and wifi, it was one of my haunts when I needed to get work done, but didn’t want to go too far from home. The vegan pumpkin chocolate chip muffin(available not just in autumn!) is a must try!

I keep trying to like black horse! I actually go there 2 – 4 times every week. I love their food, I love their coffee, I even buy growlers of their cold brew, but alas, I am continually disappointed with the attitude of some(not all) of their staff. There seems to be a basic lack of customer service training. Baristas are lackadaisical behind the counter when their is a line out the door. Also I always say thank you when I get my order and almost every time, the response I get is borderline rude or at minimum cold and off putting. I went to breakfast at the downtown location this morning and said thank you after the barista took my order. The response I got was, «yah». On another occasion I went for a coffee and panini at lunch on broad and said thank you after placing my order and got an under the breath«uh huh». The reasonable should have been you’re welcome, or my pleasure. I just constantly feel like I’m wasting their time by placing my order. I desperately want to buy local and black horse does do many things right, but I’ve had experiences like these in greater frequency over the last couple years at all of the different locations in slo, which makes it tough to keep choosing to patronize this business.

I’m always happy with the coffee I get from Blackhorse though it is a little expensive. The place has a very mello environment and is a good place to sit and chat or try to get some work done. The walls feature local art and the atmosphere is comfortable. There is a fireplace that is nice to sit next to when it is cold. I like that they are open really early, I need that coffee fix in the morning!

Pretty consistent food and coffee. I would rate this location a mediocre. The staff seemed to be a little preoccupied but not bad. Would have been nice to have a little more greeting. The location is nice and they have some outdoor seating if have a little time to relax.

Good coffee. Was going to get an almond milk latte, but the baristas only wipe down and do not purge the steam wand in between uses. Lots of bacteria from old milk in the steam wand, and those with severe allergies are at risk.

Sandwiches are premade and gross, no homemade oatmeal or really anything fresh except the fruit. Very mediocre coffee. Nice lady at the cash register but that’s about it.

So disappointed with this location. The employees are always so rude, it makes it hard to justify spending $ 5 on a mediocre latte. All the other Blackhorse locations are so accommodating with great service and coffee, but this one really misses the mark.

It’s SOOO good, BUT way over priced. Now and then the staff seem to not even want to work there. They don’t even serve you. You have to wait to pick up your food and beverage at the counter. If you order a panini you’ll find yourself having to get up and check the counter several times before it’s even ready. Any black horse freeze is amazing. The turkey pesto panini is amazing as well as anything behind the bakery(bear claw, yumm)

Nice and friendly staff made a large size cappuccino. This coffee house follows an American sizing system of 12, 16 and 20 oz servings. The 12 oz came as a single shot which was too light. We upgraded to a double on the 12oz. It seems they use Caribbean coffee and the espresso had a burnt flavor. The milk was steamed a bit too hot. This place is definitely above average shops and the drinks and food were good. The seating inside is tables and chairs with taller bar seats near the window. There is nice patio seating for good days. The baked goods and panini are worth the stop. Breakfast has many offering as does lunch with salads. For dessert there are many great treats. Enjoy!

Conveniently located right next door to my hair salon, this is a great fueling stop with ample indoor and outdoor seating. The sun-warmed patio is a great place to relax with cozy seating and pastoral views. The warm and friendly staff will whip up one of their signature coffees or teas to your specifications and make you feel right at home. Intimate coffeehouse atmosphere(complete with a little fireplace) with a bounty of fresh-baked goodies, yogurt parfaits, health bars, fruit and sandwiches to power you through your day. Today, since it was really warm, I enjoyed a large paradise(tropical) iced tea and a mega Rice Krispie treat. The paradise iced tea is unsweetened, so I tailored it just the way I wanted with a touch of sweetness. I nabbed 2 treats for my hair stylist –the pumpkin chocolate chip muffin and a carrot cake muffin. Patrons can access free wifi and newspapers too. Bring home a bag of their signature coffee or a specialty tea tin. There’s lots of great gift items to choose from too.
