Food is good, the service sucks. The young girl working the register has a crappy attitude.

The food was just bad. First time ive ever thrown away food that i spent 10+ dollars on. I had the beef brisket and polish sausage with fried okra and a roll. Neither of the meats had any more flavor than just greasy, and the bbq sauce didn’t improve it enough to where I wanted to keep eating it. The okra was ok. The roll was ok. There is barbecue everywhere in slo, this is probably the last place you’ll want to go.

We ordered take out from dickeys this past co worker that picked up said that the guy taking the order didn’t seem like he knew what he was doing first of all. when she got back to work and gave us our food it was reduculios, for 9.50 they said I would get 6oz of brisket a roll pickles, onions and two sides which I got mac&cheese and a type of onion rings which were ok but not great by any means. i asked for sliced brisket and recieved a quarter slice of brisket that was tender but what was under that piece was what seemed to be 5 ½ ounces of shredded shoe leather no slices, 2-pickles and 2-rings.i got BBQ sauce on the side and it was good, I would go back if they sold just the sauce and BBQ my own meat. i think they just opened up monday you would think they would want to make a good workers ordered sliced brisket to and it was the same except all shredded no sliced embarrassed for them.

I’m changing my previous review of two stars, to four. After writing my original review, someone from the restaurant wrote me back and apologized for my experience. I’ve written a few reviews of poor service and this was the first time anyone even tried to make it better so I want to give credit where credit is due. As I originally said, the food is really good and the fried okra is my jammmmm so I’m happy to go back and give them another chance. Thanks Neil for your email, I really appreciate it!

I am not a big fan of chains, but this place is awesome. I believe it is a locally owned franchise, so it’s different, you know? Anyway, we had been meaning to try it out for while, but were reluctant because of the whole chain thing. Well, they had a place at the fair and the brisket must have crack in it. The young man gave us a coupon for a free big bbq sandwich as a ploy to get us to the shop. It worked. Everything is good. The smoked brisket and pulled pork are delicious. They have three sauce choices served warm. Sweet, spicy and original. They are all good, just depends on your mood. The green beans with bacon are broad beans, cooked until soft. The Cole slaw is creamy and fresh. I really like the chicken Caesar salad. They toss it to order and the chicken is marinated and tasty. The beans are like Ranch Style beans, not sweet. I wish we had tried it sooner, but there are a lot more menu items to try like polish sausage, Mac and cheese, and ribs so we will be back.

Sorry I did get a gift certificate and went back. Much better this time. The green beans still suck, but the rest of my stuff was hot. I din’t give them more stars because it was still cookie cutter BBQ in a real BBQ town. I do give the owner five stars for her reply to my review. She was very nice and for that reason I would go back.

This review is for the quality of the food only. Since I was brought take-out by a co-worker, I didn’t interact with any of Dickey’s employees. I got the 3-meat plate with ribs, turkey breast, and brisket. Sides were green beans w/bacon and fried okra. Overall, everything was really, really salty. I feel like I have consumed more sodium in this one meal than I normally do in three or four days. The turkey was moist, the brisket was really dry, the ribs were so-so. The sides were OK, but not good enough that I would order them again. I have to say that out of the whole meal, the turkey was the best thing. But that was only based on its texture; the only taste to it was of salt. And the big chunk of raw onion that they garnish the meat plate with just seems kind of weird to me. Maybe it’s one of those things like sweet tea that is traditional with Southern BBQ, but just doesn’t appeal to me personally.

Good BBQ beef brisket. Salad had romaine, cheese, beef brisket and topped with fresh to order thin onion rings and ranch dressing. My son had a BBQ brisket sandwich on soft roll w Mac and cheese + baked potato casserole. *** Too bad we didn’t know about the free ice cream. I sampled both iced teas — good flavor. Nice QSR for sure. Probably the best fast food BBQ I’ve ever had. Staff was friendly for being so close to Cal Poly. We’ll be back for sure :) Stoked on this spot.

I ordered the beef brisket sandwich, mashed potato casserole AND barbecue beans. My eyes were definitely bigger than my stomach. The beef brisket was tender, flavorful and lean. I added my own bbq sauce after which was nice because then I could control the amount. The mashed potato casserole and barbeque beans were both tasty, however I was much too full to even finish them. The sweet tea had a good flavor to it and was not overpoweringly sweet. 2 meal plates with 2 drinks got a little pricey. We both agreed we would just stick to the sandwich next time. The customer service was friendly and quick. The restaurant appeared very clean.

By far best BBQ food in town! Always has such friendly staff working. The chicken and smoke house salad is my favorite but always hard to decide what I want because everything is delicious. The owner Neil is very nice he’s always making sure that all of the customers are a 100% satisfied. I highly recommend this place.

I like BBQ. No… I love BBQ. But I like Dickey’s. The sweet tea is amazing. The brisket is never super moist and the meats tend to be a bit dry. But the sauces are tasty and help. The sides are a bit too corporate but never bad. The BBQ beans are quite good. It’s nothing to write home about but every once I. A while it just seems to make sense.

Excellent service, excellent food, excellent complimentary ice cream. The owner Niel ads such a great vibe to the restaurant and can always put a smile on my face.

Cheap and disappointing. Better BBQ at other places in town, but was a good amount of food for the money, chopped brisket is good bet.

It was like 2:30pm and I was starving for lunch. Of course, I pull up at Dickey’s because there’s not a lot of BBQ spots in my hometown. The worker was really nice, answered my questions and helped me with a smile. I settled on the Western Burger and chose pork and turkey. I ran to the bathroom while he made it –they were really sweet to hold my food behind the counter. I went to the bbq sauce station and was greeted with original, spicy and sweet. I don’t do spicy so I tried the other two. I really liked the sweet sauce and proceeded to smother it on my sandwich. It comes with a toasted bun(my fave), a nice helping of meat, a low grade slice of cheese, a huge raw onion ring and pickles. It’s kind of a dude sandwich. I enjoyed the pork but the turkey was just alright. Last stop-FREE ICECREAM! Seriously. So it’s more like soft serve and they only provide the same small containers as the sauce but who am I to complain? I filled it and was on my way and then I spotted another customer who filled it at least 4 times the height of the container. #KeepItClassySLO

I lived in Texas for a couple of very long years. About the only thing I miss is the brisket/chopped brisket. Having a love for bbq and having eaten lots of it, I have found the chopped brisket here from Dickie’s is the closest I’ve had to Texas brisket. Overall, I think the food is good and is a good value for your money. I’ve been here countless times and always left full and satisfied.

I want to say THANKS to Dickies BBQ for helping us decide on who is going to cater our wedding. Thanks to your LACK of customer service, we decided to go elsewhere. I feel bad that I even recommended this place. So what happened? A couple of phone calls to their business with a promise to call us back. What do you think happened??? Nothing. Called again, … again Nothing, and once more, and again NADA! To me and I would yell you that this is a DIRECT reflection on how this business deals with its customers. I would recommend you go else where if you need catering. They are NOT interested in helping you. I can only IMAGINE what would have happened if we had used them for our event! AGAIN, Thanks to Dickies NOCUSTOMERSERVICEPOLICY, we went with BESTLOVINBBQ in Arroyo Grande, CA. They were on top of it and not only gave us a great deal, but the food there is AMAZING!

Mmmm BBQ! I am a choosy lady when it comes to BBQ. I have a finicky palate and a lot of sauces just don’t suit me, but Dickey’s is exactly what good BBQ should be. I was in an odd mood when I visited this restaurant. so I went for the brisket SALAD. Yeah yeah yeah, I know. Who the heck goes to a BBQ restaurant for a salad?! But stick with me here… I got a salad because I knew I’d be nibbling off the plates of everyone in our group. I tried pulled pork, the chicken sausage, brisket, as well as a few of the side dishes. I was really torn on trying the ribs, but the brisket was just CALLING to me. I like that they have novelty yellow cups and that the cups tell you right on the side to take them with you. I like that your meal comes with soft serve in a cup or cone. The service was so helpful and friendly I thought I might have been in the South for a moment. All smiles and the people behind the counter all had great suggestions. I don’t live in the area, but that’s a good thing because my waistline could not handle my living close by to this place.

Pretty good for a chain. I ordered the two meat plate with Texas brisket and Southern pulled pork, with waffle fries and BBQ beans. The plate also came with a bun. The meat was good, tender, but not super flavorful on its own. It definitely tasted best with one of the three sauces(original, sweet, or spicy) my favorite being the sweet. The fries were tasty just what you’d expect, the beans were very flavorful tasting like pork and beans, but my favorite was the bun they gave. It was thick, but tasted like a biscuit. Overall a good meal. The dessert was good as well, everyone gets free ice cream out of the soft serve machine. You can either use a cone(which is provided) or a yellow drink cup. I actually used the other half of the plastic container which my pecan pie came in. The ice cream is good, but its the usual soft serve. I did enjoy the pie a lot though. Not very many places have pecan pie and this stuff is pretty good. Definitely worth a try to end your meal, I know I will get it again. It is clean, the staff was super nice and helpful, and the prices aren’t to bad, but a bit high depending on what you order. The tables have a rack with paper towels on it which is awesome. Overall a really good experience and they have good coupons available. Its not the worlds best BBQ joint, but still a pretty good option. Give em a try.
