What appears to be a humble noodle house packs some incredible flavor! I’m devoted to their second special, the twice cooked pork, but every option on their minimalistic menu is worthy of praise. The service is impeccable and prompt, a must for anyone in search of the best cuisine SLO has to offer.

Chop Suey and a punny name, what more could you want? They’ve been a local staple for a long time and are right down the block from the Palm Theater. Cute date idea: dinner and movie. Cliché yes, but you can feel like it’s the hip choice going here and catching an indie movie at the Palm.

Twice cooked pork with flat noodle. Don’t make me say it again.

My friend and I came here around 7 on a Saturday to try it out because we love Asian food. I’m Filipino and have been to plenty of China Towns and have eaten authentic Chinese food, but sadly this place disappointed us. We liked the atmosphere and the menu, but the food was really bad. I got a vegetable soup bowl and she got the black bean vegetable chow mein. For a $ 10 meal we were expecting something better. I could smell the cleaning product on my spoon when I tasted the soup which was bland and reminded me of dishwater. Her noodles wouldn’t come apart and the vegetables were very salty and had a bitter aftertaste. We didn’t say anything because we didn’t want to be rude. But I guess we were anyway because we didn’t finish the food… It’s pretty bad when the only thing good in a restaurant is the soda.

We finally were able to try this place after stopping by multiple times only to find it was closed. Definitely call ahead before you head over. I like the vibe of the whole place. It sorta feels like a Coen brothers movie, in a good way. The flat noodle soup was good. I enjoyed the noodles, but found the soup lacking a bit in spice and flavor. I’ll come back when I’m craving some soup, but I wouldn’t necessarily go out of my way for it.

We ordered the twice cooked pork and dumplings. There was too much soy sauce in the twice cooked pork making the dish salty and overpowered all other flavors. We both thought there was an oily taste too. That being said the noodles were perfectly cooked as was the pork. The dumplings and the Asian ‘slaw were good.

Yummy and so creative. Twice cooked pork is a favorite. I recommend the salmon salad, too. Delicious-will visit again and again! Locally owned and operated. Chef Paul Kwong is one talented chef. Chef rides bikes and helps the local bicycle coalition, too.

I go here regularly for lunch with coworkers. The guy who works the register(I’m not sure if he is the owner? He is there every time) is super friendly and always makes us feel welcome. Noodles are tasty. My coworkers always get the #2 and I’ve been copying them. But other stuff is really good too, like the pork buns. Would recommend.

Being from SoCal, I try not to expect too much from SLO. I’ve been here for a couple months now and am always disappointed at the lack of culinary diversity. Downtown SLO is a series of Gastropubs, Italian, Pizza Joints, Burger Joints and BBQ joints. Chances are, you WILLNOT find Asian food that isn’t sushi or a Panda express. I found an area called, China Town(which is literally 2 – 4 buildings). At it’s heart sits this place. The server is a nice kid. I ordered the special. I did not know WTF it was that I was eating. I know this is SLO so, I can’t be picky but… Woah. I almost wanted to take it home to see how I could salvage whatever it was that I was eating. I’m sure the locals LOVE this place but growing up in the San Gabriel Valley has got me spoiled.

If you’ve never been here before, you’re in for a treat! Such a small location is easily overlooked, especially in SLO, where there are so many great eating establishments to choose from. First things first: Special #2, A.K.A. Twice-cooked pork. You need it. You want it. You might not know it yet, but once it hits your lips… it’s just so good! It has the perfect balance between meat and veggies, excellent flavor paired with flat noodles, and the serving size will definitely fill you up. Get a couple of the pork buns, maybe some pot stickers, and a ginger beer to wash it all down. You can thank me later! They’ve also got great Hong Kong style chow mein, noodles fried crispy, then topped with all of the veggies and meat. Really, I’ve never been disappointed with any meal I’ve had here, although it is damn hard to stay away from that twice-cooked pork! The service is always excellent, water always comes with a slice of orange in it, and interactions are always pleasant. Quick tip: if you can, always go for the two seat table by the window, it’s the best one in the house… people watching, or a great view of Cerro San Luis await you.

Best Asian food in the area. That’s not saying much, but it’s a solid noodle house with really good food. The noodle bowls are heavy on the veggies and meat, which is definitely a plus. This is my go-to place when I don’t feel like cooking and the staff is pretty chill.

Very average. On the plus side, the servings were big, and the bathroom was clean!

Came to SLO to take a 3 day course at the university. Looked around for a Chinese place and I think I might be super spoiled since I’m from SF, but the food here was incredibly disappointing. I don’t understand what I was eating. Maybe I chose the wrong dish, but I would not come here again. It was a bit on the pricey side as well.

I have been coming to The Palm for years, and for some reason always thought this place was closed down. But no… it’s a place… that’s still in business. So I love noodles and was stoked when someone at work suggested we go. Good thing we eat lunch early as the inside seating is tight and small, with just two booths, the rest high top tables or a bar… We got a booth thank goodness. Two people ordered noodle soups, one with beef, one with pork, one with fat noodles the other with thick noodles. I ordered chow mein. We all agreed the noodles were all cooked well in both dishes but everything was underwhelming in terms of flavor. No seasoning on the meat, the veggies in my chow mein were plain, the soups all needed chili sauce for some flavor… Maybe this is traditional and how it should be but in my experience with noodles there is usually more flavor/seasoning. Service was nice, and the atmosphere is decent, just not enough flavor.

I absolutely love this place. The owner is extremely nice and the food is made fresh! It is hidden away and not many people I know go here which makes it that much better(less crowds)! Also on Thursdays they have live Jazz upstairs, great for a date or just to enjoy the music and have dinner.

Nice service. Food was awful. As much as I don’t like to bash on businesses, I just thought I’d let people know before they stumble into this place. My fiancée and I both agreed that our food tonight was one of the least appetizing meals of our lives… If you’re hungry in SLO, then I recommend you keep looking for another place to eat.

This review is for their noodle stand during Farmers Market. I always want to try something new during Farmers but keep coming back here. What a great amount of food at a great price. Very flavorful, very filling and downright delicious. Thanks!

Went here for a quick bite to eat but realized it wasn’t all that great. Honestly this wouldn’t pass as Chinese food at any asian/Chinese restaurant I’ve eaten at. Their food was bland, sauce would sit at the bottom of the bowl and they gave very little noodles. Their noodles tasted like fettuccine. Not any type of Asian style egg noodles that I’ve eaten before. Majority of the bowl was vegetables and I got beef on mine which was slightly dry. The only saving grace was their dumplings which are pretty damn good. I really wanted to love this place due to all the great reviews and I really wanted a Chinese place close by so I could get a taste of home but unfortunately this was a disappointment.

Since SLO is limited in their Asian«fusion» flavors Mee Heng is a good place to turn to when you want a little noodle action. Both times I went I was not disappointed. There is flavor and the veggies are cooked to where there is still firmness to them. The only complaint is that the noodles are not«dry» but swimming in «sauce». Overall a good place to go if you need a noodle fix.

In my opinion, Mee Heng Low is the perfect lunch spot when I need that taste of old Chinatown. They make a classic Chow Mein, pan fried into a pancake of perfection. I love trying out the different sauces when I come. Although the meat is a bit on the saltier side(I love me some salty pork), it doesn’t overpower the rest of the dish. Also, try their booth at the Thursday Farmers’ Market. It’s a little different than what they serve at the restaurant, but it’s still awesome.
