An excellent and fun go-to for all that’s happening in San Luis Obispo County including news, events, entertainment, and arts. They have it all with a little bit edge. Anytime I want to checkout what concerts, movies, festivals, or art exhibits are going on I always know I can find it in New Times. The Shredder is also fun to read. The newspaper is informative and has won several awards for it’s journalism. It has been controversial at times, but that’s what adds to it’s charm. It’s always a weekly Thursday treat for locals!

Total BULLSHIT liberal newspaper! Should not be taken seriously! Actually I was a little too nice, but they didn’t have a zero star!

As noted by Joe G., the paper can be controversial and sometimes downright reckless(they once published a recipe for meth to show how easy it was to make, see link: ), however on the flipside they have printed excellent exposes on San Luis Obispo’s homeless challenges, see the following link . Overall, the editorial sections tend to lean to the left, although the letters to the editor responses include some more conservative and libertarian. The New Times often has a pulse on what is going on in the SLO area, never boring, but sometimes a little too edgy for its own good. At the grand price of «free» and seeing it can be picked up throughout the area at local businesses, the library and on the college campus, you don’t have anything to lose to pick it up and read a copy.

Terrific, albeit sometimes controversial, local paper. Events, regular columnists, «this modern world» and«Tom Toles» cartoons, recommendations, meetings and other relevant information is available fresh every Thursday all around town. A great asset. And it’s free!
