The San Luis Symphony is a cornerstone gem to the music of San Luis Obispo. The New Years Eve Concert to a sold out house at the Performing Arts Center is a toast to the excellence of this organization. With incredible, performances by the entire orchestra and solos that really knocked it out of the park, this is a must see group wherever they play. Fabulous, simply Fabulous! Also — be sure to see the website for the dates of the free dress rehearsals and look into the youth symphony that has concerts too!

A quick review of the SLO Symphony would tell you that… Pros: + Top-notch visiting talent comes in and visits them on tour. + During the concert season, they offer free dress rehearsals which take place in the Performing Arts Center on Cal Poly’s campus. It is a «no ties allowed» dress code, which also makes it family friendly and affordable. + A wide library of music has been played over the years, in addition to their collaboration with the Cuesta Master Chorale, making variety a mainstay in their overall plans. Cons: — Not enough effort has been made to attract the younger generation to actually visit the performances on concert nights. While they usually sell out, gray hairs can’t continue the legacy of the symphony forever. Don’t get me wrong, I think it is wonderful that our seniors love the music on display here, but the tickets need to be a bit cheaper and more community outreach needs to be done to get people in their teen’s, 20’s and 30’s to actually see classical music as something worth supporting with their time and show up for more than just the dress rehearsals.
