Vicki is the best! Hands down. I have been going to her for almost 13 years now (have followed her to three different salons-that’s how great she is). I won’t let anyone else cut my hair. I moved to the Bay Area seven years ago and I always get my hair cut when I drive down to the coast. If you want an amazing experience and hairdo– come see Vicki at Shift. You won’t be disappointed.

I got exactly what I wanted! Allie is amazing! It was super affordable and they are very high tech. When she washed my hair I sat in a chair that gave me a back massage!!! AMAZING experience

Allie McCann is by far the best hair stylist I have ever been to. Every time I leave her chair I am as in love with my hair as I was the last time she did it. She has amazing talent and is dedicated to making people feel and look beautiful! I can honestly say I have never felt so satisfied with a hair cut and color as I have been since starting to go to her. Although I am currently living in Idaho I always make it a priority to get in to see Allie while I can! I highly recommend booking an appointment with her, you won’t be disappointed!

I scheduled my husband an appointment with Allie, for a haircut. I wanted to him have the full salon experience, as he regularly cuts his hair at a discount place.
It was his best haircut EVER! She did the most amazing job. My husband is already handsome, but he came away from Allie’s styling a better looking man!
He will be going back. (He doesn’t really Unilocal,but I felt it couldn’t go unreviewed!) he also loved the massaging shampoo chairs!

This salon was absolutely amazing. I feel so welcome when I walk in and then I am immediately pampered. I highly recommend Allie. She is so nice, cute and does an amazing job with hair. To be honest I get hair cut anxiety but I always leave the salon with my hair feeling fresh, healthy and looking good! :)

Worst haircut I’ve ever gotten. They cut off way more hair than I asked for and layered it way too high. I asked for a trim and long layers and it ended up probably 5 or 6 inches shorter. It was extremely overpriced as well. I will never be going back there.

Annette is my husband’s regular stylist and every time she does an amazing job on his hair.
For our wedding, I also used Annette as my stylist. She did such an amazing job! She created a completely unique hair style based on some vintage looks I brought in. My hair turned out amazing, Annette is truly a gem.
In addition, several of my bridesmaids had their hair done by stylists at Shift. They all were unique and amazing! Vicki, one of the owners there, is also fantastic. I’ve received many great hair styles from her.

A hidden gem in SLO! Had my hair done by Lauren, who is AMAZING! She listened to what I wanted and did an outstanding job on my color and cut. The atmosphere at Shift is super relaxing and nice. I thought i was going to fall asleep during the hair wash/​massage. Wow. I also purchased some of the Kerastase product they carry, which has had noticeable effects on my hair. Its hard to find a good hair salon so I’m happy to have found Shift. Highly recommended :)

VICKI will make you look like a GOD! I have been getting my hair cut by her for many years now and have referred many of many friends to her, who now refuse to get their hair done by anyone else. She also gives a really good head massage when shampooing. Not only is she exceptional stylist, but she’s also a co owner of Shift, so making sure you get the perfect hair cut is her priority.

I was a satisfied client of Shift until yesterday when Vicki ruined a hairstyle I loved and wanted to keep. It was the style Vicki had given me a few weeks earlier so I’m at a complete loss as to why she butchered my hair yesterday. I told Vicki that «I loved my hair exactly as it was and I just wanted a TRIM to clean up the ends. Vicki then proceeded to hack a bunch of layers into my hair that were NOT part of the style I had just told her I loved. Vicki even specifically asked if the longer length worked with my wavy hair and I said, very clearly, YES that’s why I don’t want any real length taken off. Did that stop her from taking too much length off my hair or stop her from hacking TOO MANY, TOO SHORT layers into my hair? Nope. It was like she just completely disregarded everything I had just told her.
In the matter of an hour I went from a style I loved to a mess I can’t get to look decent no matter what I do to it. I will now have to spend 4 to 6 months growing out this horrible mess Vicki left me with all because she clearly can’t follow simple instructions to trim a style SHE gave me once before that was (emphasis on WAS) my perfect style.
I will NEVER return to Shift and I wouldn’t recommend Vicki to my worst enemy.
PS — Shift was very nice about refunding my money for the botched haircut. The cut still looks horrible but at least I didn’t have to dish out my hard-​earned money for it.

This place isn’t horrible. But it didn’t live up to my expectations. The best thing I can say is they sell good products. I bought some kerastase shampoo and condition that I love while I was there. Other than that the color job was average. I asked for my stylist’s suggestion and she did a very odd combination. Very red streaks in the back and blonde in the front on my brunette. hair. Many people noticed, but not exactly in a good way. In addition, I asked them how I should do my cut and they said it looked good how it was and only gave me a trim. The next month I got it cut in the east bay and they said my hair was very heavy and in a block. After they cut my hair it improved dramatically. I would not recommend this place personally.

He’s all about what makes me look my best… So I don’t come out with a cookie cutter hairdo… Color, cut, style… He makes me feel and look great. When I step out of his salon I’m ready to meet my interior design clients with zest.

Love love love this salon! Found it by looking for kerastase products in San Luis Obispo, then read the reviews. Modern clean and professional they are always upbeat and positive. I chose Annette to restore my multi color hair, and the results are amazing. Lots of tiny streaks that create a beautiful soft blonde that is flattering and natural looking. She has matched color almost exactly from pictures, and can also create a hair strategy for keeping the look alive. She is a real artist!
The results that other patrons get are also beautiful.
The location on Broad Street near the San Luis Art Museum, is also fun for people watching!

I came here for a color correction and cut with Annette. She is A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. My hair, however, sucks at life. It was a failed 5 ½ hour attempt at lightening my hair from almost 4 years of dyed blackness. The colour I ended up with is actually very pretty and I’m absolutely satisfied. I ended up with a gorgeous brown and amberish highligts, a welcome difference!
I have curly hair that I NEVER let anyone touch or cut, aside form myself, but Annette gave me very nice long layers to complement my curls.
She’s very professional and sincerely cares about what you’re looking to get. The entire staff is incredibly friendly as well.
I love the atmosphere of the salon. As soon as I walked in, I felt comfortable, not like I was in some uppity frou-​frou place where I would be scoffed at.
And yes, the massaging chairs at the wash station are to die for!
