Aragon High School

What a great school Aragon was!
The teachers are very knowledgeable, motivating, and most of all care about the students and their success!
I had the good fortune of living right around the corner from campus, so it’s only a 5 minute walk!
Attending the school will allow your child to learn in one of the safest and most beautiful neighborhoods California has to offer.
The athletics department/​programs are very well supported; I personally enjoyed JV football and JV/​Varsity wrestling.
The coaches are fully capable of getting your children into great shape and also well prepared for a career in athletics as a teacher or performer.
I have also had the chance to participate in the theater/​drama department which changed my life forever!
In drama, I learned how to manage the whirlwind of teenage emotion through dramatic play and discovery!
It literally saved my life, by teaching me it was okay to express the full range of my emotions through a wide scope of activities whilst in a safe and respectful environment.
The people I met there are people that will always have a special and unique place in my heart forever!
The only complaint I have is the lack of communication there was between counselor, parent, and child.
I felt there was a definite need to have much more involvement with counselors, teachers and children regarding behavior, grades, and future planning. (This kind of counseling is critical to high schoolers and the future of America and the PTA should make it priority.)
Other than that, the school and it’s people were excellent and made high school an experience I will remember for the rest of my life!

Current junior attending AHS and here to say proud to he a varsity cheerleader (go dons!) Love the staff they are all very nice and kind and got to say aragon is the best school in this district by how they have friendly caring teachers who care about their students futures. Aragon is mostly known as a academic school. Where I recommend to send your child to. Even though they don’t consider cheer as a sport (sadly) but got to say thers no other school like aragon !

Our daughter is in her senior year here and has had a great experience. Enthusiastic, committed teachers and administration, great kids, involved parents. Yay for public education that works.

I am EXTREMELY proud to be an alumna of this school. Aragon has changed so much within the last few years and I’m so happy with how it has turned out. I remember going to classes in portables and although it’s still not done, I see how much potential this school has. I love the professors, I love the campus (even though it still somewhat resembles a prison), and I love seeing how much the school has grown. Transferring to this school was the best decision I could have made.

Attended a graduation here yesterday! Man talk about setting up an oven on the football field! Shhhhheeessshhh!
Nice football field! Didn’t really get to see much else as I was baking on that field while the graduates sat on the bleachers!
Definitely unforgettable event! I do give them 3 stars for a nice foot ball field!

Not as cool as San Mateo High School, but as a Borel graduate a lot of my friends went there. And I had Guy Oling for summer school. Seriously… it was like Mark Harmon. We watched Point Break to learn about the presidents.
Anyhoo… weird architectural layout, and weird is good.
Public school… fine joint… good neighbourhood.

I currently attend Aragon as a sophomore [9 days left!!] so this may be quite biased. I’m highly active in leadership/​government and I try to know lots about what is going on around school. I know for a fact that the staff here are VERYY close. I heard they go on ski trips together. Some of my teachers i’ve had, i disliked, others i absolutely love! [my spanish teacher, mrs. elenz-​martin, is probably my best friend]. i know the test scores are amazing and the AP courses are very good.
cons: the school looks like crap, but i’ve seen worse. we lack spirit. and students aren’t respectful to the school [aka graffiti].

In the entire San Mateo High school district Aragon is the place I would send my child. I went to Aragon, both my parents went to Aragon and I know a LOT of people who graduated and went on to college and other successful things.
My problem with Aragon is the staff is they openly favor wealthy students and give them extra attention because they know the poor students can’t afford a college education. Aragon prides itself on the high number of students who go onto a 4 year college after graduating. The teachers expect all students to come from a home with unlimited resources and perfect parents. I’m sure most people can agree a perfect home life is a rare thing.
I have often seen low income students struggle just to keep up with the expectations of the teachers. Everyone I know who was low income that attended Aragon fell thought he cracks, and the wealthy students didn’t. The teachers just don’t want to waste their time. Also Aragon has a really high drop out rate. much higher then they publicly admit. They have ways of passing off students to other schools without making it reflect badly on their drop out record. Some people had wonderful experiences at Aragon, but often times the teachers only focus on the ‘promising’ students rather then all the children equally. I felt abandoned by my teachers and with a difficult home life, I had nobody to turn too.
The students are open and friendly, more then a typical high school. I just wanted to post a review from another point of view because I know many Aragon alumni have quite a few common complaints about Aragon that I know personally. I was class of 2002.

I loved Aragon when I went there in the 80’s. Went back again recently and would love to send my children there! Test scores are awesome and they are a «Distinguished School»

Aragon High School is great. The football team, the school, the clubs, the girls, the community, the hot cheerleaders! oh yeah! I went here before and I still love passing by.

Still seems great! Supposedly Aragon had to cut back on a lot of staffing, but this school is newly renovated! Made me a Don for life!

Aragon High School doesn’t have so much of a community feel as San Mateo High School, but it does stand out as one of the best in the SMUHSD.
With all of the upgrades done to the campus, I wish I could have gone to school there now rather than before.
