Sigh, I haven’t been here in months, and today, I was extremely disappointed. This place used to be very cheap and above average in terms of quality. They always gave smaller portions, but that’s perfect for me. The bentos used to be something like $ 8 for 2(a few years back, it was $ 6.50 for 2), and now it’s $ 5.50 for one. It’s still a decent price, so I went and bought it anyways. What a mistake. The food’s quality has gone down dramatically. The cabbage was so overcooked, it was disgusting. The stew pork is extremely salty, and I’m pretty sure there were bones inside the sausage. I will give this place the benefit of a doubt that they were just having an off-day, but I won’t go back again unless I really really really feel it. Service: 3⁄5 Food: 1⁄5 Atmosphere: 2⁄5

The portions are small. Similar price in other Taiwanese places will get you a bento twice the size. BOGO deal, would be worth it if the food was better. Tried stewed pork and fried pork chop bento. Small portions. The stewed pork was basically one medium piece of stewed pork sliced into 3 thin(¼ inch) piece. The meat was very dry, they should have poured some of the stew on it. They should have put some stew on rice while they were at it. About 2⁄3 of the bento was rice so that would have added some flavors to it. The white cabbage and carrots are so over cooked and lack any flavor. The half stewed egg didn’t have too much flavor. The egg whites were very lite in color so not much stewing. The sour veggie was ok. You get some more meat with the fried pork bento but everything else is pretty much the same. the fried pork chop wasn’t anything great either. With all that rice, it’ll fill you up. I wouldn’t even say this is good value food. I rather wait an hour to cook stewed pork at home with my pressure cooker than eat this stuff again.

Absolutely love it! It’s authentic Taiwanese bento. Currently they have a buy one get one free promotion. We got two bento for only about $ 8! Will definitely come back soon!

Yay! BOGO for $ 7 is back. Guess that was a short promo. Look, the food here isn’t the best. But it’s totally the value. I can get full from one bento and I enjoy the experience. So I love coming here because I’m Chinese and I’m cheap. My usual selection is the pork belly and the special. I eat the special that day and the pork belly holds up well to be reheated the next day.

Formosa Express was unattended tuesday midafternoon. closed? no signs of operation times seen. a posted sign in chinese read: «buy one, get one free(6.99)».(alluding to bento bozes, 6 types available. another review says they reopen at 4:30 the regular deli section was open, selling taiwanese side dishes, appetizers. a flyer on the shelf lists stores also at the union city and cupertino sites of marina market.

This place, inside the Marina food court, just bumped their BBQ deli over to the rest of their hot foods but is comparable by far. It’s Taiwanese bentos, including minced pork with gravy, stewed pork, BBQ pork(almost like japanese chashu), chicken quarter, even a vegan bento(i believe it’s tofu skin), and my favorite, a fish fillet that just sings — even after you reheat it! They come with steamed broccoli, carrots, pickled mustard greens and half a soy sauce egg. And best of all, they’re buy one get one free after 4:30pm each day. So that’s two meals for $ 6.99. Get to it get to it get to it! Hours: everyday 10:00am — 2:30, reopen 4:30−7.
