I can’t believe this place is closed according to Unilocal.I went over to try some Golden Boy in San Mateo after watching Avengers. I was hearing how great Golden Boy was in San Francisco. Their pizza has such a unique consistency that I’ve never tasted in any pizza before. It had the perfect amount of *crunch* in it! I hate hard/crunchy pizzas too so it was a delight to actually experience a pizza that can do their crunch RIGHT. The workers are chill and the interior décor is very urban even though it’s located in a more town-looking location. Loved sitting at the tables right by the doors. However they did not have ranch! I love my ranch…

Downtown San Mateo has many slice pizza joints but Golden Boy might be the only one with square foccacia pizza. You can order a whole pizza or get it by the slice. They had seven kinds of pizza ready for consumption: pepperoni, sausage, combo, veggie, pesto, cheese and their famous clam & garlic($ 2.50 — $ 3.50 per slice). They heat up your slice of pizza after you place your order. Enjoy your pizza with beer, wine, water or fountain sodas(free soda refills). * Clam & garlic slice($ 3.50): Garlic lovers will love this pizza. The foccacia crust was thick, soft and chewy with a light crunch. It was generously covered with chopped garlic, tiny clams, cheese, parsley and a thin layer of tomato sauce. I liked how it wasn’t salty or greasy and it didn’t taste like it had been sitting around a long time. I couldn’t taste the tomato sauce much with all the garlic but I didn’t mind. Golden Boy has a sports bar feel with TVs showing various games, loud rock music, and exposed brick walls. Each table has shakers with parmesan, red pepper flakes and oregano. Cash only. ATM on site.

Right across the Century Theaters, we were able to sneak a couple of slices into the movies. $ 3.50 /square slice(but website states $ 3.75 each) *Clam — sounded cool but the garlic was a bit overwhelming, especially in a dark crowded theater. *Combo — oldie but goodie — they use zucchini slices here *Veggie — really liked this one with the round cuts of zucchini, mushroom, olives, onions, and pesto sauce under the cheese. At least that’s what i thought was in it while eating in the dark.

Been to their North Beach location a few times. I am glad they opened up in this space in San Mateo. A little tucked away, but great for a small meal after movies. They give you plenty of toppings loaded on crunchy-bottomed foccacia. Flavor is just right for me. Prices are relatively inexpensive.

The location is convenient, so if you’re craving pizza after a movie, it’s literally right in front of you since Golden Boy Pizza is right across from Century Theatres Downtown, San Mateo. The employees are friendly, the restaurant is clean, and the prices are cheap. My boyfriend and I each ordered a pepperoni pizza. Pepperoni Pizza: It’s not the best pizza, but it satisfied my hunger. The pizza was borderline burnt, didn’t really have a lot of flavor, and was forgettable. I heard the clam pizza was good, so maybe I’ll try that next time. 2 stars for now!

After watching movie late at night, tummy was craving for some bites. It was cool that Golden boy pizza is right in front of the theater and open late hours. Pizza was delicious and not a lot of wait time. Simple menu and their vegetarian option is their pesto. it was yummy and not too oily unlike pepperoni sausage slice.

Ahh the crazy square style pizza. An American adaptation of the Roman pizza by the meter? Solid pepperoni slices. I wish the crust was just a bit crispier. If you’re craving a slice and want a more unique take on it, Golden Boy is a decent choice. 3.75 stars

This place has really good pizza. And it’s square so that just defaults me to fan. The locations has a cool hipsterish vibe. And the price is really good. So square pizza, decent price AND it tastes great. Sign me up! Thanks Alison!

Went here after my friend raeved about the North Beach location. However, I have a hard time justifying driving that far just to grab some pizza from the peninsula. Pizza is amazing. Great price for the quality. I will only eat square pizza for the rest of my life.

I don’t want to give it 3 stars but if you have only had the Golden Boy pizza in the city there is no comparison. The Clam/Garlic pizza was not fresh at all. Obviously, I am not going to get the same freshness as I would in the city since the foot traffic is more in SF. The staff was nice… I was so excited to be in San Mateo and have some good pizza but it didn’t turn out that way… Boo!

Someone explained to me what the Golden Boy reference was from, but I forgot because I was too busy devouring the pizza. The style is fluffy and fresh with flavorful cheeses and spices. They even have a pesto clam– WTH!?! Small space but the pizza is fantastic, affordable and the beer selection is pretty fair. Great Friday night spot, after you hit up the Under Attic!

It was Sunday January 15th, 2012, 1 short day after The Niners beat New Orleans in spectacular fashion and my girl wanted to hit up a movie. We got there super early b/c we have been spoiled bloody rotten with Sundance Kabuki Theater and their reserved seating process, that I needed to get THEBEST seat in the house. Anyway, we were hungry and decided it was time for a slice. Well that and I knew this spot had multiple flat screens with sports on 24⁄7 so I was confident I could catch a peak of the Giants/GB game, eat my pizza ever so slowly and kill some time. So, the pizza is pretty good. It’s not Patzi’s or Windy City or even Toto’s, but it’s edible and quick. The staff are super nice and helpful, brought our food to us, c leaned up after we were done and that’s a nice touch. Definitely worthy of your cash just before a flick and I will likely try it again. Cash only, so plan accordingly.

I love pizza, so I’m always down to try new places, but this place just didn’t hit the spot! First of all, this restaurant is cash only.(Boo! That just means I have a limit to how much food I can buy!) The pizzas in the display looked really drool worthy, but taste wise. not that much drool. I ordered a garlic and clams slice and a veggie pesto slice. I was expecting great things from the garlic and clams pizza cause it sounds freaking awesome, but the flavors were just meh. The veggie pesto tasted a lot better though! There was plenty of cheese and an ample amount of toppings. I don’t know if the pizza wasn’t heated up enough(they were very lukewarm.) or if the pizza itself just wasn’t that great. But regardless, for $ 3.50 a slice of mediocre pizza, I don’t know if I’d be rushing to go back. At least the cashier was super nice, and they had a few TVs!

This pizzeria is conveniently located right across from the movie theater in downtown San Mateo. The price ranges of their pizza are close to the $ 4 mark depending on what pizza you get. For my trip here I had the pepperoni and sausage pizza. Both pizzas had a very thick, soft and crunchy crust. The portions were very generous. My eyes were more hungrier than my stomach. I should have stuck with one slice. The cheese on both pizzas were nicely melted and stringy. This place is a must visit for a great deal on food. Especially before hitting up the snack bar in the movie theater. Highway robbery!

I was pleasantly surprised by Golden Boy Pizza. I went for an early lunch and had their Pesto Veggie slice which was pretty good. Their crust is slightly thicker than Speederia which wasn’t bad but I prefer thin crust. I also tried their Clam and Garlic and Combo slices, both were quite enjoyable… just remember not to get the Clam and Garlic when you’re on a first date. I noticed that they offer Chimay beer — I’m not a beer drinker but beer and pizza are always a good combination, right? I asked for crunchy and they happily obliged by giving me piping hot pizza with crunchy crust. Service was friendly, especially since I spilled water(yeah, I know… can’t take me anywhere). Will definitely stop by here before I watch a movie at the theatre. No more stale nachos or super salty hot dogs for me.

When you see that sign with the finger pointing down you know that you are at Golden Boy Pizza. When in North Beach, I always look for that sign. Now I can look for it in San Mateo. I am super happy that they opened out here, because I seriously crave their pizza. This new location is really nice, they have actual chairs and booths for you to sit down in. You have to fight for a spot in SF, so far you don’t here. But I really hope that people catch onto this place and keep them in business. Price range is around $ 3 per slice. Love their cheese, boyfriend loves the clam pizza.

I am very excited about this new Golden Boy Pizza location. I no longer have to drive all the way to the city to get a slice of their awesome pizza. For most parts I think the quality of the pizza is in par with their North Beach location. Same recipe. Good execution. If you can score a slice fresh out of the oven you will be in heaven. If not, simply ask them to reheat it for you. I love the crispy yet fluffy crust. They don’t seem to have a lot of traffic right now. No Lines and plenty of seats available even on the weekend. I suspect it won’t be the case for long. Sooner or later people will find out about this little gem. It is located right outside of the theater. Perfect place to grab a quick bite before/after catching a movie. Combination is the way to go if it is your first visit. Clams and Garlic are great too if you can stand the strong garlic taste. Pesto and veggie is more subtle if you have a more delicate palate. Cash only but they have an ATM machine right there.

The other day, I saw a Golden Boy Pizza truck, parked right outside of Bertolucci’s in South San Francisco. «Hmm,» I thought to myself, «What does Golden Boy and Bertolucci’s have in common?» So in my quest to be informed, I googled Bertolucci’s and found out that Golden Boy is the spawn idea of Mama Bertolucci’s son. And found out that Golden Boy is not just located in North Beach(The City), but its also in downtown San Mateo! We weren’t really in the area to watch a movie, so the Main Street, Golden Boy location was a little bit hard to find from the street. It’s located down a narrow alley, on the way to the Century Theater; perfect for grabbing slice before or after a flick. We decided to get take out and ordered a combination. Let me tell you the drive home was TORTURE. Scents of italian sausage, marinara, and carmelized onion, danced around us, on our 25 mile trek home. My first bite made the top of my head tingle, in a good way. That slice was the best marriage of foccacia and pizza with the freshest ingredients. Oh, Golden Boy, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways…

Golden Boy Pizza is open in San Mateo!!! If you aren’t familiar with them, they have some of the best pizza in the bay. I highly recommend the clam and garlic. I came in today without knowing if they had even opened yet(no Unilocal review and nothing on google). Well they are open and they have the same options that we have all grown to love at the North Beach location. I know that soon this place will be packed, so I will have to eventually wait in line for my Golden Boy fix. Believe me, this pizza is worth the wait
