I didnt realize Fiji had such a high Indian influence. I’d studied Island and Oceanic art way back when and only touched upon the Polynesians. Well, I guess there was a some servitude happening in the 1800s and hence a large Indian population. When you go to this market you will see the mass amounts of Indian food that are represented. Got some crazy Fijian sodas and the co worker got some Indian/Pakistani spices and pickles. Owner was really nice and we got to talk about food and culture. I learned something this day!

The market has new owners, a wonderful husband and wife whose sons help out with carrying groceries to the car and cleaning up the place. I was worried that I wouldn’t get along with them as well as I got along with the past owner. Since our stores are side by side that could be a problem. I was happily surprised by how polite, funny, and helpful they are. The selection of goods has gotten much bigger, they are constantly sweeping and trying to improve the place and best yet, there is now Barfee til’ the cows come home! With their patient instructions I may indeed learn to make vegetable biryani or some sort of dal!

New owners for the past year. Things have improved tremendously. They get fresh goat meat every week. If you have the patience to call and find out if the goat meat has arrived, you can get some awesome tasting meat. They have Indian and Fijian food. I found lots of frozen foods like breadfruit and exotic chips, Fijian style instant noodles and many other things. Small grocery store but its worth a visit.

This place is actually now called Islanders Market, and it is pretty ghetto compared to all the other Tongan markets. It’s not even run by Tongans, and they rent Indian movies? I don’t like the fact that they would put Indian food in a Samoan/Fijian/Tongan market. These two countries are Islands. Not India. Though the Island foods are good to buy. You won’t find many Island markets. They charge really cheap for products. They have misc. products and they charge a dollar for American Gatorade and Austrian Redbull. This is a play you should give a try. You won’t start cring when you’re done shopping. I don’t find it horrible. It is an okay place.
