I really hate it when a menu Items is not as advertised. Grilled Double Cut Pork Chop was not even close. A double cut pork chop contains 2 bones, hence the name. On the menu at that time it was listed as such. It even stated on the menu to allow additional time due to its thickness They have since changed the website menu to indicate a Niman ranch pork chop. Average food and service. The evening manager was polite and understood my explanation of a true double cut pork chop

I’ve been here many times and have always received amazing service and delicious food. When I see these reviews about poor service I can’t help but scratch my head??? It’s a great place for date night or even family night. I love Jack’s! Hope they keep their high standards up! :)

Service was slow. Went in yesterday and waited 25 minutes even though there were empty tables the whole time. Food is good tho and good pricing.

Great food, professional staff, modern family environment and clean. Not too loud. I would absolutely come back for more. Cheers.

Redemption of sorts. Arrived 6:15 ish, short wait, place was running like the well oiled machine we expect. On this visit, had the lamb burger, since they specialize in Greek, Mediterranean food, even though its a «diner» The burger was cooked to perfection, service was spot on. It still surprises me that the menu is so inexpensive living in $an Mateo County. Fish dishes under $ 20 is one BIG example. We will return.

We come here a lot. Usually good. Service can be a little slow and orders get screwed up at times. But still good. I was blown away when we ordered guacamole and chips for the table. We noticed when the brought both orders there were very few chips. Not nearly enough to use up the dip. After we ate them we asked for more chips. They brought another small amount of chips. When we finally get the bill they had charged us $ 5.00 for the extra chips! Wtf?! I’ve never heard of a place charging for extra chips. Good way to piss off your customers! We spent over $ 200 this trip! Unreal

I’ve been here several times since they opened. So a sample of widely dispersed visits. Most recently had the Jack’s burger which was cooked perfectly(medium rare on the rare side). I’d get this again. Extra side salad for just under $ 4 was sized just right. Fries were nothing to write home about but adequate. Quality has been maintained. The place still looks new(~2 years later). Nice addition the the San Mateo scene.

Breakfast = 5 stars. It’s fantastic. The problem is everything else is GROSS. I had a thai beef salad. It was the size of a spare tire, and the meat was partially tire. LOL. I’ve had other salads and even a chicken sandwich. Just gross. I had sworn this place off. Then my co-worker told me she was dying for some Jack’s and I wanted to be nice and oblige… so I went. That’s when I had breakfast there. Spanish, Greek, and even this weird chili and eggs thing… AMAZING. Since it’s breakfast and everyone can do breakfast they moved up to 2 stars from a 1(or zero). Then because they offer breakfast until 3pm I’ll toss in an extra star. I wouldn’t ever come after 3pm. In fact, they should close after 3pm. Or just do breakfast 24⁄7. The funny thing is: everyone I’ve ever seen eating there is ordering breakfast. Take the hint, Jack, or whoever you are; brekkie only!

A few factors come into play when I write reviews for restaurants. Alright, only really two. Food and Service. Well, TBH — I’m a little disappointed with the service AND food. Mind you, it was 1:15PM and not busy at all on this Friday afternoon. We sat in the Bar area and our waitress must of been out of it. First problem was our food that came was NOT what we ordered. She came by and apologized profusely for the mistake. She said it would be two minutes or a few. Well, I want to say it took about 10 more minutes before our food got to our tables and it was alright. My Mac and Cheese was very watery so it just felt like it was rushed. Another issue was she wasn’t very attentive when it came to asking for Refills. We had also asked for napkins but didn’t get them until asking a second time. It’s a bad sign IMO when you need to ask for stuff twice and its not even busy. Overal, disappointing first time experience… my mac and cheese was runny. Service wasn’t very good… I don’t know if I will give this place another shot. The people whom I’ve told swears this usually doesn’t happen but it just left a bad taste in my mouth. I’m not sure if she forgot but I assumed she comped our drinks to make up for it but maybe a meal would have been better comp since they were severely delayed and we got back to work late. Comping Drinks are nothing BUT it is appreciated. Don’t worry, I still tipped the poor girl incase she was just having an off day but she really ruined my experience…1 Star.

I went to the San Bruno location and figured, why not come to the San Mateo once since my experience was awesome at San Bruno. What I ordered: — Garlic oregano fries(love eating skinny fries that are not super oily) — Italian pasta(the pasta was not mushy, my favorite!) — Pot roast(so tender, yummmm) Maybe it was just the time I went but I recommend to not side by the left side, that being because the whole time I was at Jack’s, I never had a waiter/server come by. The person who took our order was the hostess that we had to approach and we ended up walking up to give our card to someone so we could get and pay our bill. I am a fan of their food! Only the service was mediocre/non-existent that day.

Jack’s is a great, solid American/sports bar restaurant. It’s like a BJs that feels more homey and less commercialized. Whether it’s breakfast, lunch, or dinner, the food has always been more than satisfactory. For breakfast, I love«The Hangover,» and for dinner, the lamb chops or lamb burger. Not to mention they have an abundance of TVs, and game night(Go Sharks) + great food is always a good combo.

I have been to Jack’s in Pleasant Hill and was always a fan of that restaurant. So when I was on this side of the bay I decided to try Jack’s out for dinner! Upon arrival we decided to sit in the bar area and were served by Matt. Matt was probably the best part of my experience at this Jack’s location. Friendly, energetic, helpful and overall a great server! He deserves a raise or something! Anyways now on to the food. I am greek and love greek style food so if you are the same this is right up your alley(and if you don’t get out! No just kidding, they have food for you too). For starters we ordered the calamari and added the jalapeños we also ordered the lamb chops. Both were great. the lamb chops were my top choice, packed with flavor and just fell right off of the bone. For a main dish, my mom and boyfriend ordered the cobb salad and I ordered the half chicken. Let me tell you, they were not kidding with the half chicken thing! The piece of chicken was huge! I even took it home and had it for breakfast the next morning. The potatoes and veggies that the dish came with were tasty as well. The potatoes lemony and mushy just like I like them. The chicken had great flavor to it as well. I had a great experience at jacks and recommend to anyone in the area looking for good quality food and service. If you are lucky enough to be served by Matt you’re in for a treat because he truly was awesome. It is rare you come across great waiters/waitresses so that’s why I put so much emphasis on it!

This place is always packed — I joke that it’s always the old folks that pick up their meds from CVS and head over to jack’s for dinner at 5PM. The main complaint I have about this place is that the food is inconsistent. I can come one day and the food is great, and the next day it is noticeably off. Same goes for the service. When it’s on, my usual order, the salmon orzo, is actually pretty delicious. It is lemony and creamy and the portion is so large that you can probably get away with packing away leftovers for a second meal. I’ve also had the steamed mussels appetizer which was tasty the first time, but contained lots of sand the second time I ordered. A safe bet is probably the mac and cheese, which is probably the hardest to mess up and is pretty tasty. I recommend the one with spinach and sundried tomatoes.

I am familiar with Jacks of San Bruno and when I heard one was coming to SM I was pleased. This spot has tons of TVs and a cool outdoor patio with fire pits built into the tables! Food was good. A group of us sat outside to watch the Bengals and Steelers game. Jalapeño Calamari, wings, that spinach and cheese bread thing,(I didn’t eat it, someone else got it) few drinks, coffee and fries. It was a busy evening there so service was not really fast, but several people came to check on us over the 3 hours we were there so that was coo. The bill came to 90 before tip and the outdoor seating was very nice but I guess they had a leak in one spot so they kept a careful eye on it. They also could not play audio from the game because it was not a Sports Bar… I guess there are some extra fees involved to play the TV sound.

Recently moved to San Mateo and decided to grab a burger to go from Jack’s. I arrived at home to find what should have been a burger cooked medium was very rare. My first bite revealed cold, raw meat. Oh well. I guess it’s time to cook. I strongly suggest checking over your food before leaving the restaurant if you do take out.

Busy diner with good breakfast! We were a couple of doors down at an optician. Saw a line forming outside this diner and decided we are going to check it out after our appointment. Always trust the line! There was quite a crowd when we went in. Gave our names and were issued a buzzer. We were seated in less than 10mins. Expected a much longer wait. Promptly seated and served. We ordered two latte. They were just ok. I have yet to find any diners who can offer good food and coffee at the same time so this is not totally out of my expectations. We ordered a Banana French Toast and New York Steak sandwiches. The serving gave us a shock, they were HUGE! They look absolutely delicious and when it was place on the table, you can’t help from salivating! Had to resist and capture a picture to tempt you on how yummy it is! The food was superb. Every bite was so good. we enjoyed every bit of our food. Service was friendly and prompt. There are plenty of parking right in front of the diner which is awesome. Would definitely recommend dining here. Four stars as their coffee didn’t make the cut.

Come here on a Friday night around dinner time and expect to wait at least 15 mins. But the waiters and staff are all amazingly nice. The food here is also delicious! I tried the hot wings appetizer($ 8.95 for bone in) and the pot roast($ 15.95) entrée. Loved both. The entrees are quite large and I took a good majority of it home. Perfect 2nd meal! The waiter we had tonight was so nice. He was so fast and attentive. I really enjoyed my time here and I live literally a block away so you bet I’m gonna frequent this place more in the near future!

Jack’s serves some pretty typical American food that is above average at best. The more typical items you can get here are salads, burgers and various pasta dishes but the more interesting items include different mac and cheese flavors, meat loaf, pot roast and other comfort foods. My personal favorites are the Mac and cheese and meat loaf. Jack’s has a way to present the most basic dishes like meat loaf in a very aesthetically pleasing way, as if you’re in a fancy restaurant. The portion sizes are fair, hearty and the dishes are pretty flavorful. Prices are decent for the amount of food you’re getting. I would say this location is pretty good for large groups. I came here for an engagement party with a group of 15 people and all of our appetizers and main courses came out pretty fast(we only waited about 25 minutes for all of our food after ordering). Service was good here and the staff was very accommodating to us.

Most people want a perfect relationship. I just want a burger that looks as delicious as the ones in commercials. The struggle is real. If you don’t like lamb burgers, you need to get outta here, because I don’t know you anymore. I really didn’t expect to discover my favorite diner burger here — I blame it on the succulent ground lamb with garlic, topped with luscious cumin-lime aioli, sandwiched in between soft, fresh buns — bun edges were nicely charred. I friggen devoured that sh*t. Ladies and gents, this burger is what wet dreams are made of. Other components included fresh parsley and mint and a cucumber tomato relish. Enchanting flavors. I was also pretty psyched about the tasty salad and crunchy pickle on the side. Unfortunately, I can’t vouch for the rest of this restaurant’s menu items. Sorry, not sorry, but I’m a fan of just the burger, cooked to medium rare perfection. Service was acceptable. This place gets PACKED during lunchtime – too bad they don’t take reservations. + HH Monday through Friday 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm
