Lash’s Place

This is what a barbershop should be. A place of character with solid pricing, and a quality haircut. I highly recommend Lash’s place.

Friendly atmosphere and overall great experience. I get my haircuts from Matt, been going to him for about 4 years now. He has a passion for his job, which is hard to find. Will continue to come here for a long time.

Love this place. Very professional, kind, easy to deal with barber specialists. Great haircuts. They make it comfortable and fun for even the teens and 20 somethings to come in and get a cut the way it’s supposed to be done. Very old school vibe, like in the movies. Funny how the very few negative reviews are from people with very few reviews and no friends. Suspicious, you betcha (ha)! I could not help quoting you know who.

If you love narcissist people, mediocre haircuts while getting hit with 10,000 questions about who and what you are and love drinking alcohol then this place is for you.

I was in the neighborhood and in need of a haircut, so my girlfriend was looking on Unilocal for a barber and found Lash’s. When we walked in I was lucky enough that Lash was free so I didn’t need to make an appointment. He’s super friendly and kept us entertained during the haircut, which was good. The place and the experience has a lot of character that you can’t get at a Supercuts or whatever. When I left, I wasn’t thinking and forgot to tip. Oops, i’ll make up for it next time.

I work in San Francisco but occasionally work out of my companies San Mateo office. I was in desperate need of a haircut and had limited time, so I decided to give Lash a go since it is very close to my office. I walked in without an appointment and was immediately greeted by Lash.
He got me into the chair as soon as he was finished with the client he was helping when I arrived. I received the newbie special (declined the glass of wine as I was on my lunch break — next time I will take it!) and couldn’t be happier. The conversation was just as good as the hair cut — which was top notch.
Definitely going to make a point to make it down to San Mateo for all future hair cuts.

I have been going to this fabulous place for years. Lash is an incredible barber and wonderful person. His hospitality and warmth is on display everyday for everyone. I wouldn’t even think of going anywhere else for friendship and great haircuts. Love you Grandpa.

Lash is a very passionate and friendly person. The shop is very interesting as well. Pictures and memorabilia are all over the place with a lot of history. Lash even took the time and gave me a tour around the whole shop. This place has a old school barbershop feel to it which is hard to find nowadays. I’d recommend this place to get your haircut. Support your local and family owned business!

I have been going to Lash’s Place for almost two years now. I always get a great haircut and find the conversation and atmosphere enjoyable. Lash and Matt both do a very good job. I would suggest calling ahead to make an appointment.

Lash’s is far more than an ordinary barber shop — it’s a local institution and a another reason why I love living in the Hayward Park neighborhood of San Mateo. Not only will you get a quality haircut done the way you want it, but you’ll also enjoy a few laughs with Lash and his crew of experienced and friendly associates. I tried a few cut rate chain salons when I first moved to the area, but none of them really felt right. They were purely utilitarian — just a business transaction. Getting a cut at Lash’s goes far beyond that — its an event that I look forward to. I felt at home the instant I walked in and wouldn’t dream of getting my haircut anywhere else.
I find Mr. X’s review concerning. The fact that the shop is popular enough to draw enough customers that appointments are a good idea is something that should work in favor of the shop, not against it. And, although wine is oftentimes available, it does not touch Lash’s lips. To insinuate otherwise is not only inaccurate, but rude to the proprietor of this venerable institution.

I really look forward to going to Lash’s to get caught up on the latest news on high school sports. The wine doesn’t hurt either.

First timer at Lash’s Place. Was recommended by several friends as well as by all the reviews across Unilocal.
Walked in and was greeted like I owned the place; however, it was the actually owner Lash. We exchanged a few stories and laughs then was introduced to the barber Matt Piscitello. Definitely the sure shot professional. The type you would trust when looking sharp is part of your daily routine. Matt easily was able to work with me and gave multiple suggestions on what would look better. Cleaned me up while I was able to enjoy conversation with Matt, a little basketball on ESPN and more laughs with Lash.
Certainly found my new barber shop.

I have been going to Lash’s Place for a number of years. Lash is an extremely friendly guy. As a fixture on Palm Ave for many years, Lash’s Place has an old-​school connection to the San Mateo community. There have been a few barbers who have come and gone from here. For the last year, I’ve had Matt cut my hair.
I have been extremely pleased with the haircuts that I get from Matt. Matt’s energetic and youthful personality always make for a great haircut experience. He is always willing to trim, snip, buzz, shave until the haircut is perfect.
I find that calling ahead and making an appointment is the best way to assure that Matt will be there. Don’t be discouraged if he’s «running a bit behind schedule» when you get there. I’ve never had to wait more than a couple of minutes. That just proves that he takes his time to get the job done right.

My dad has been going to Lash’s for many years. He always walks out with a fresh haircut and a smile on his face! Lash is very friendly guy and has a great barber shop. He has a lot of old school memorabilia on the walls and tons of photos. I would recommend anyone to try out Lash’s. You won’t be disappointed!

If you come out of Lash’s Place without a smile on your face there is definitely something wrong with you.
It’s a smörgåsbord experience .
Whether you just want «it» cut or would like to have the problem’s of the World solved. Of course, this will come from 3 different viewpoints:
Lash’s being the one who has the first and last opinion, or the lovely Ann who always has a nice thing to say, or James that will come from a sculpted doo view of the World .It will be interesting.
And they know how to cut hair, too.

I’m very impressed with Lash’s Place on many levels. First of all, Lash and his staff are very friendly – it’s a nice, warm place to get a cut or style. Lash is only too happy to share recommendations for other businesses you should check out in the area.
Also, he offers you wine as you wait. The place itself is interesting – full of memorabilia from years in business. And, of course, the cuts and styles are great. Lash cut mine a bit shorter than I was used to, but he was right – it looked great.

Lash’s place is your classic barber shop. This is a place to go where you get to know your barber, and they get to know how you like your hair cut. It’s a personable shop where you can take a break, hang out, relax, and get a great cut. Reasonable prices, no BS. This is definitely NOT some quick chop franchise shop, but a real barber shop like you see in the movies.
I have been working with Daniel Alfonso for over three years now — and he does an amazing job! As a photographer, I have suggested Lash’s place to my male models before they come in for photo shoots, and they have always been excited by the results. What’s great is — it really shows in the photos! I have uploaded a couple photos of Pablo who got his cut from Daniel, and I hear he was back in the day before my last trim! Take in mind that Pablo lives in South San Jose — now that’s a pretty long drive for a good haircut.
