I have been going to Dr. MacDonald for more than a decade. He has guided me through a potentially difficult condition for which I am grateful. I am surprised at the other review. The doctor spends more than enough time with me and explains related conditions which provide a fuller understanding of eye problems. In the late 90s he helped my mother and then referred her to Dr. Sydney Williams for more specialized glaucoma care(another excellent choice). But first he put our minds at east by explaining the disease progression and the levels of treatment.

I was very disappointed with this doctor. I came in for a regular eye check up and to get a new eye glass prescription. I had VSP so both of these were covered. I also had medical insurance but didn’t have my card at the time. I happened to mention that I experienced some type of nystagmus which may have been due to BPPV(Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo) which was resolved after a positional maneuver which caused slight nystagmus at the time. I was told that Dr MacDonald did not want to see me if I didn’t have medical insurance as he was concerned about the nystagmus which would be charged under mediical insurance. Receptionists asked if I can come back at another time with my health insurance card. At this time I already had my eyes dilated and was starting to get late for another appointment in SF immediately after my eye appointment. I was appalled! I told them I can give them my card later and that I worked at SHC. The doctor had me sign a form stating that I would pay whatever charges if I didn’t have insurance. I signed it and then he saw me for 3 minutes at most I kid you not!!! Then he said I didn’t need my health insurance after all. This just added salt to the wound! So unprofessional!!! This MD needs PR training!!! I will never see this doctor again!
