Shah Hema, MD

Dr. Shah is very nice and tends to run on time. When I first saw her, her bedside manner was lovely and I would’ve recommended her without a doubt. But over the year I saw her, I realized her practice was quite disorganized. Every time my pharmacy tried to get a refill request through, they ended up calling me, telling me they tried many times, but got no response, so then I had to call and tell them to fax the information over. Again and again this happened. This happened with insurance stuff too. She’s probably a fine doctor for someone who needs a PCP they go to once every few years, but she didn’t work out for this person with an ongoing condition.

First off, I went to Dr. Shah once, and she was very kind, very approachable, and listened to anything that I felt comfortable relaying to her. She was the example of a great doctor.
I was however sent for a blood work at Lab Corp in San Mateo. After going there, Lab Corp mentioned that they didn’t have an «order» from Dr. Shah’s office.
I called Dr. Shah’s office, the lady on the phone was nice, however I had to explain several times, that despite not having an order in my hands, which she was quick to point out as the reason why I could not get blood work done (i.e. this is the classic service call nightmare of getting someone on the other end whom you hoped could have helped you regardless of what happened, instead they made you feel like you’re on the witness stand), Lab Corp could not see me because they did not receive an order from Dr. Shah’s office. In fact, they said that this happens A LOT with Dr. Shah’s patients who visit Lab Corp. To sum up: something, i.e. the order, is not getting through from Dr. Shah’s office to Lab Corp. And someone, i.e. Dr. Shah’s office, will need to fix their process to make sure patients’ blood work orders are getting through.
The point is, I don’t know and I don’t care what is happening behind the scenes. Despite my fear of needles, I’m going to make sure my health gets checked. I’ve done my part of taking 2 days off to go see the doctor and another trip to then do blood work. Shouldn’t the doctor’s office who sent me there… do their part?

Been a patient for many years. Wonderful caring doctor. Listens to what you need and gives great advice. I have never felt rushed. Nice office and staff.

I have been a patient of Dr. Shah for a couple of years now and find her friendly, approachable and thorough. She listens to what you have to say and does not rush you through your appointment, Her explanations are detailed and you leave feeling that she really cares. She recently took on my 82 year old mother as a patient and is very patient with her. Mom is hard of hearing and often wonders from a topic when talking. I would recommend others to her.

I would skip this doctor if you are a new patient. They charged 150 more than normal for a first time visit. You will receive a hefty bill in the mail and I have excellent PPO insurance. Why would I pay more to see this doctor over another? I would not. Nothing special here. Skip it.

I just recently went to see Dr. Hema Shah and she was wonderful and very personable and I also needed other doctors to see and she recommended 3 and I have gone to 2 out of three so far and loved them as well. Dr. Shah handled all my visit needed in just one visit and she really listened and take good care of me! I recommend her to anyone and everyone thanks Dr. Hema Shah your a keeper!

Worst physician to go to ever. I come from a medical family and have trouble finding coherent physicians in the area, not to mention one’s who actually care about their patients. Ms. Shah completely rushed through my appt, all of 10 minutes, and waved off the pain I’ve been having for a YEAR AND A HALF. I told her I can’t sleep on my left side without it hurting. Her response «well then don’t sleep on your left side.» Oh, and don’t forget the laugh that followed. Obviously someone who should have never been allowed to have a license to practice in the first place. SAVE YOURSELVES!!!

I am pretty steamed about my most recent «encounter» with Hema Shah, wherein she refused to give me a TDAP vaccine during pregnancy as currently recommended by the CDC:
To be fair, she hasn’t been too bad in the past. Dr Shah’s bedside manner is certainly pleasant, and most of my complaints about her office may be due to logistical considerations outside her control. For example, appointments usually begin late and are difficult to schedule, which compounds the problems presented by the lack of an after-​hours advice nurse line or, for that matter, any urgent care facilities in the vicinity. It’s very frustrating to know what is wrong with you and what treatment you need but to need to wait two or more painful days to receive a prescription or referral– but again, this may not be Dr Shah’s fault directly.
HOWEVER. Recently my obstetrician informed me that I should have a TDAP vaccine before delivering my baby, so I called Dr Shah’s office and tried to make an appointment. The nurse I reached said it was standard procedure to receive the vaccine at the hospital after delivery, so I told her about my obstetrician’s advice and the recent change in CDC policy on the matter. The nurse said she’d talk to Dr Shah, then called me back later and said Dr Shah wouldn’t give me the vaccine. No explanation. Just a flat refusal.
Fortunately (for $ 60 out of pocket) my local travel clinic will pick up Dr Shah’s slack, so my baby won’t be at increased risk due to Dr Shah’s ignorance/​obstinance.

I have seen Dr. Shah a few times and she has always been extremely pleasant. Appointments are not too difficult to obtain and her staff has always been nice. Dr. Shah takes her time with her patients and she answers all questions thoroughly.

My husband and I have been patients of Dr Shah since she first joined the practice. She is delightful! She is very patient, caring and an excellent clinician. She always takes her time and has time for questions.

however they failed to call and let me know they were running behind
the front desk lady is highly RUDE.
they don’t validate parking either. :(
