William and Hesus from San Mateo St. Vincent De Paul were very helpful. showed up right on time. They not only worked hard to lift the heavy donations but were very friendly during the whole time.

Will and Jonathan from San Mateo St. Vincent dePaul Society came to San Francisco to look at my older sofabed and decide if it was an acceptable donation. Even though they couldn’t accept it due to cushion wear, they moved this huge heavy object to my driveway so Recology could pick it up. They saved me $ 150, which Recology would have charged for an in house pickup. These guys were kind, compassionate and professional.

If you don’t speak spanish, good luck trying to communicate anything meaningful with the people in the donation center.

This place smells awful. I went here looking for children’s furniture because it was boasting a 60 percent off furniture sale. The sign did not say select items. It just so happened that none furniture was actually in sale. Lies. It’s annoying. I want to be reimbursed the money I wasted on my parking meter.

I went in with reserved expectations. The store packs a wide variety of merchandise into a good size shop. The ladies working there were helpful and friendly while keeping busy stocking and organizing. I anticipated a total of $ 60 for my finds. The kind woman at the counter was dignified and friendly. She charged me a total of $ 30 for several collectibles and a great framed print. I am an avid thrift shopper and will definitely return.

I just had Will and Jonathan pick up my bedroom set… What terrific guys these two are… We ran into a slight hiccup, but I had the tools and they had the know how… They were able to work around my packers and safely for them and the bedroom set, get my complete set on the truck and hopefully the donation will raise a tidy sum for this wonderful organization…

I love SVDP, but this one has unbelievable prices. $ 120 for a plain piece of paper commercial print of a well known work? It’s here. And more of the same. The prices are absurdly high. I stop in from time to time to see if there’s anything remotely affordable, or of quality. Nope.

Donation/​pick up service. They were great from start to finish. The phone set up was easy, the scheduling worked as they said, the guys who came on the truck were very nice and very efficient. This particular crew came out of San Carlos and my experience could not have been better.

This review is regarding their pick up truck service. The worse experience ever. First the guys were extremely rude and arrogant. Then they will refuse almost all furniture. Warning they won’t take pressed wood furniture like all Ikea stuff. They only want solid wood. As if they run some high end furniture store. Also if your couch has even a tiny stain they will reject it that’s it’s dirty we won’t take it. For almost new toddler bed they refused to take it bc I wasn’t giving the mattress. What kind of charity service are they running? Since we were moving the same day these guys came we ended up throwing all our perfect furniture. It broke my heart to throw it instead of helping someone in need. Rediculous. I wish salvation army was free to come. They will take everything you give them and the guys will thank you which these guys didn’t even do.

My sister and I came in here to find pictures and other home décor. St. Vincent has an excellent selection of artwork and furniture to choose from. It brings back the magic of treasure hunting in a thrift store. The staff was helpful when we needed them, but let us browse leisurely even though they were closing. Maria was especially helpful. If you’re tired of paltry furniture and artwork pickings at overpriced antique or thrift stores, this is the place you are looking for.

This review is for the donation side of the establishment. We brought in some nice crystal plates and bowls and fireplace accessories for donation, thinking we were doing a good thing for a good cause. We met Alvin G. who was doing the inventory at the door. He looked at the items and told us what we brought in was trash and he doesn’t want to take them. His attitude was extremely condescending and rude. He kept repeating «basura basura» while looking at what other people brought in as well. I will never donate again to this establishment and will advise others to not frequent them as well.

This review is for the donation pick up phone line. The woman is condescending on the phone, cuts you off in mid sentence, and gets irritated quickly. I’ve spoken with her twice and have always hung up with a bad taste in my mouth. You would hope that an organization like this would choose someone with a moderately pleasant demeanor to represent them. Not very good for their cause.

As with any thrift store, it’s a always a hit or a miss and requires some effort to dig around. Had some good deals though! I came on Black Friday and everything was buy one get one free. Some special color tags are 25% off and some are 50% off. Nice selection of cups, vases and serving dishes too.

Pathetic! These people are taking away donations from the needy by being extremely rude on the phone. I called in this morning to donate a barely used couch and couldn’t stand the arrogance and sheer stupidity of the bi*** that answers furniture donations. Get her off the phone and into an asylum.

Reasons to support St. Vincent De Paul Society of San Mateo:

According to St. Vincent de Paul website, «Last year, 36,000 distinct individuals were served in San Mateo County, including 15,340 children.»
Donating your goods that you don’t use daily provides all of these support, and much, much more. You are encouraged to support St. Vincent by stopping by at this retail store, and checkout some of their fantastic items. You never know what might turn up. For instance, just today; I got lucky and found a brand new Italian sweater valued at $ 1,200, for only $ 15.

This thrift shop has a great selection and deals. I really appreciated that they have a rack in the back of the store that is devoted to large women sizes being that I am a large woman and that most thrift stores just mix all women sized clothing together. The large woman clothing mostly is surprisingly new merchandise that was donated. I found two brand new shirts that cost less then $ 10 a piece since they were also on sale at 25% off! One of the shirts was a name brand: Quacker Factory.
It is a huge store with three rooms: the main room with jewelry, clothing and such, the second room with collectibles such as figarines, cups, furniture and such, and the third room with electronics. It is a well organized thrift shop. The staff here are very nice and helpful.

This is a review on behalf of a friend in San Mateo who requested end of year help from St. Vincent.
These folks do a great job of helping the local community. She had a recent death in her family and had a house full of «stuff» that she went through at a really hard time. She boxed as best she could and called for a pick up.
She was upset and not that nice when they got there — and she started to cry. The drivers helped her get things down a stairway, and were just amazing, compassionate, kind.
St. Vincent has always done really great by me — now I am doubly grateful for what they have done for a friend.

FOR DONATIONS ONLY –
I feel mean writing this, but every word is true. I STRONGLY caution anyone wanting to donate to St Vincent de Paul through their pickup service.
I scheduled with them 2 weeks in advance, and they provided a 6-​hour pick-​up window. Since I work, I asked them to narrow it down. They said if I called at 10 AM on the day of the pickup, they could provide a 2-​hour window.
The morning of the pickup, I called 3 times before they provided that 2-​hour window. The first 2 times, a very «efficient» woman hung up before I – speaking quickly and clearly — finished my sentence. A different lady assured me on my 3^rd call that their driver would call me 30 minutes in advance so I could return home from work for the pickup.
*After* the 2-​hr pickup window, the driver called me and said he would be there in 40 minutes. I confirmed: «in 40 minutes, at 3 o’clock?» He said «yes.» At 2:40, I received a call that the driver had left my building without calling me, because I was not there. I explained what had happened, and that I was moving out in under 36 hours. Their response was that their driver’s truck was full and he was on his way back to them.
If they’d told me weeks ago they didn’t want my stuff, that would have been cool. Flaking like this put me in a real pickle since I had just over 24 hours to move out, and I still had to work the next day (Friday).
There IS a happy ending. Two weeks ago, I donated the first half of my stuff to Ecumenical Hunger Program. They showed up pretty much on time and were nice. I called again in desperation, and they were thrilled to get my microwave, furniture, china, clothes, etc. to give to needy local families. They leveraged a cancellation to do a next-​day pickup for me (unusual and very lucky!). So all’s well that ends well. :)
** I’ve only ever scheduled a pick-​up at these 2 places (both found through
after searching for «Silicon Valley donation pickup»), and they are night and day. I could see St. Vincent’s working out for someone who’s home a lot, and who doesn’t need stuff gone by a certain date.

I recent found a love for thrift stores and while we were in San Mateo, my boyfriend decided to take us here. People talk about how smelly this place is, but I honestly didn’t notice a single thing. I dunno. and plus, each day of the week, they have a special sale! We went on a Wednesday and that was the day for 10% off adult clothing!
First impression: This place is full of furniture! It’s actually a pretty nice thrift store. Lots of space to move around with things everywhere. Only real problem is that some things had no prices on ‘em. I hate to go up to the register and ask how much something is only to decide it was way too pricey for me to buy. :(
Now, thrift stores are a hit or miss. Either you find something or you don’t. Now this thrift store has become one of my favorites. They have a LARGE media section. Lots of video tapes and CDs. DVDs = not so much. However, it was my find that got me so excited. I had found two DVDS (Kiki’s Delivery Service & Spirited Away) for only $ 14 altogether! And there were barely any scratches on the discs! (: Also, they have a lot of Disney videos like Mulan and Pocahontas. Some prices on things are kind of crazy, though. There was a wooden table that had scratches and marks all over it and it was priced at $ 200! Outrageous… But we must remember, the money is going towards a good cause.
