Stan’s UYE @ Mango Garden

Everyone put your hands up for Unilocal’s one and only STAN DA MAN aka Stan L. Dude, major props on your first marvelous UYE at Mango Garden! That evening the restaurant’s private upstairs floor was secured for the festivity, which made us Unilocalers feel so exclusive. Special thank you to South Bay CM, Candice G., for making a quickie pit stop show her support.
That evening, Rodney H. and Stan L. opened with a provocative duet on Boyz II men’s «I’ll Make Love to You.» In addition to some panty-​dropping karaōke entertainment by fellow Unilocalers that evening, the gracious restaurant staff served us some of their yummy apps: roti, calamari, and beef satay. Nothing but gratifying flavors. I love me some good Malaysian/​Southeast Asian cuisine!
As I perused the restaurant’s menu, I noticed that the offered dishes were fairly inexpensive. Reasonable price for tasty food and great service? CRACKIN. I would highly recommend Mango Garden’s private upstairs floor for any special occasion.
Good food and good laughs. It was soo awesome to see many familiar faces and new ones! Amazing turn out Stan — way to go! Thank you for hosting such a successful event. Can’t wait for your next one :]

Thai Malaysian Singaporean fusion foods, Stan and awesome Unilocalers, private karaōke room, Michael’s birthday, free mango shaved ice?! That pretty much sums up this AWESOME UYE!
Huge kudos and bragging rights to Stan L. for coordinating this awesome San Mateo UYE @ Mango Garden. Candice dropped by and bought us a couple rounds of delicious appetizers (calamari, roti, and beef satay), thank you! The appetizers were all delicious and aplenty mm. The calamari was crisp with light breading and the chewy beef satay had flavorful spices immersed in every bite. Their dipping sauces were on point– slightly salty but savory nonetheless.
We ordered our individual entrees and I opted for the Fried Pearl Noodles per Stan’s suggestion. It was bombastic! It’s basically the combination chow fun equivalent with short, crispy clear noodles. I’ve never tried it before and it was a treat to try a new different kind of noodle. My friend, Mike, tried the Black Pepper Chicken Sizzling plate and it came out on a wholesome platter. The size of these entrees are no laughing matter, legit family style portions. We had leftovers and took them home. The Asian cuisine here is definitely not your hole-​in-​the-​wall quality but I wouldn’t pin it as a fancy place either. This is a solid Asian cuisine staple in San Mateo at reasonable prices $ 10+ and for the large portions? It keeps the foodie in you happy.
The private room upstairs was wonderful. We were secluded and tucked away from the main restaurant because we were singing at the top of our lungs… Other patrons may have thought that cats were really dying upstairs but we all had our bit of fun ;) Thanks to Aarize for singing with me and belting out her Taylor Swiftness! Great to see everyone and hope Michael had a great birthday. Cheers to a fun UYE!

Thanks to Stan, I made some new Unilocal friends. This was a great idea. Got to try out a new restaurant. Eat some good food. Got a little karaōke time in. Woot!

I was brave enough to attend this UYE event even though I do not know anybody from here. Now, I knew most of them like Stan is the man, Aarize (who has a very unique spelling of her name), Merica, Giovanna, Kenny, Cece, the newly weds and wait I forgot the others… sorry. Anyways, they were very friendly especially Porsche who welcomed me whole heartedly! Man, she is a bomb and light up the event. It was a karaōke night and heard different voices that were brave enough to sing like no one is listening!
Mango Garden was nice enough to let us stay even they are already closed. Jerry the friendly server and cameraman was great too! Thanks to complimentary dessert which is quite delicious and I love it so much. It was quite a party especially when Hazel and Michael arrived, it’s his birthday too!

Is it illegal to review your own UYE? Oh well, I’m going to do it anyways! In many ways, I don’t feel like I’m reviewing myself. It was a group effort to pull this off. Everyone contributed to the success from the staff at Mango Garden, the peeps that came, to South Bay community manager Candice!
When I first booked Mango Garden, I originally wanted to take the secluded area that was in the back of the restaurant in front of the restroom. One of the managers, Adrian, asked about how many people will attending and I just threw a number I thought was well above my expectations. He then tells me the ‘secret’ banquet room upstairs that can accommodate between 40 – 50. «Sure! Why not?!» Adrian proceeded to show me the room and of course… the karaōke machine. I was sold at that point!
Upon arrival, the manager for the day, Jerry, told me the staff was well informed about the party upstairs and that those asking would be directed there. After attending a YEE in Sacramento at the beginning of summer, I was influenced by their CM, Alex, to bring as much fun to any party. So I set up the liquor, Grey Goose Melon, as well as Chopin and a bottle of Disaronno to greet guests. Our wonderful South Bay CM, Candice, came to provide support by giving us Unilocal balloons to decorate the event. Although I never asked, she also brought a huge bag of Unilocal schwag for the guests as well. I was really touched to receive so much support. Even though she couldn’t stay long, she also help provide Roti, Satay Beef and Chicken and Shrimp appetizers for everyone. A zillion thanks to Candice!!!
I was a bit nervous that there wouldn’t be that many people since there were only a handful of people that showed by starting time. Boy was I wrong! Everyone just arrived fashionably late. I was probably the one that dressed the most casual among the guests. Thank you guys and gals for showing up and looking great!
As soon as the food came out, Rodney H, couldn’t wait and requested me to get on the mic to begin the karaōke. Having sang with him in Festa karaōke lounge in SF’s Japantown numerous times, we opened the night with Boyz II Men. Not everyone was encouraged to go on staged so I busted out Candice’s Unilocal swags and that got the train rolling for the next 3 hours!
One of the owners, Dominic, even came up to greet us and made sure everything was alright. The staff was amazing in providing the delicious food in a timely manner. I even ate lamb! Those that know me know I don’t like lamb. But the way they prepared it tasted like beef. This end up being one of my favorite dishes of the night along with the pad thai.
I was overwhelmed with the turnout of this UYE. Thank you everyone for coming and participating in our sing alongs! Even my Unilocal wife, Porsche, sang! Hope it was as much fun for you as it was for me! Thank you Mango Garden and its staff for giving us access to the room and being so accommodating. Lastly, thank you Candice for supporting South Bay UYE’s with your generosity. Everyone loved the roti and satays. I’m truly blessed with everyone’s contribution that made this UYE one of the funnest get togethers. Look forward to having another one with you guys!

What a great turn out for Stan’s first UYE! If I didn’t ask him if this was his first UYE. I would’ve thought he’s been doing this for a while. Ha!
Unilocalers were in a private room upstairs of Mango Garden with a legit karaōke too! Oh man, I knew fellow Unilocaler, Rodney H. was ready to skip eating and get the singing started: P
The appetizers were good and I believe it was a courtesy of our fabulous CM, Candice for not being able to stay long. Thank you again Candice! Oh she even had Unilocal Schwag for us to take ONLY IF WE SANG KARAOKE… if ya’ll know me. I’m Filipino and singing karaōke is my favorite lol. Got me some Unilocal Flask which will come in handy as I travel. it just has that extra spunk since it’s a Unilocal Flask! Thank you for that too, Candice!
Food was delish! I had Pad Thai. Dessert was on the house because it was Michael’s birthday. Nomnomnoms!
Stan also had his own bottle of… crap I forgot what it was but please see his picture, lol. He sang «I’ll Make Love To You» with Rodney H. and it was hilarious haha
Our server, Jerry was very helpful and attentive! He became our photographer for the night. Lol.
It was great seeing the veterans and new Unilocalers — Donna, Merica, Gio, Jem, Eugene, Cici, Michael, John and of course miss thanggg, Porsche! She had me and my table dying last night with her super funny inuendos that’s she wasn’t aware of. Haha!

Though I wasn’t able to stay long, one thing is for sure: Stan is the GD man!
Such a fabulous UYE (Unofficial Unilocal Event) and rumored to be the first of more to come (can’t wait, Stan!).
We had a secret private room above the restaurant with plenty of space AND even a karaōke. I’m SUPER bummed I couldn’t stay to watch the shenanigans ensure but glad I got to snag some calamari, roti, and tofu before heading out because I’d never had Cambodian food before and was mighty impressed. Even the dish that looked like it’d be on the heavier side was actually quite flavorful and light.
Stan really brought it with even bring some melon Grey goose to get things popping off and even a helium tank to make sure there were balloons leading the way up the secret back stairs for guests to find our private room. What a guy! He made sure the restaurant’s staff were prepared for the large turn out. Our servers were so helpful and patient. Really taking the time to answer questions and ensure that everyone enjoyed their Mango Garden experience.
It was so great getting to see so many faces, new and old, and I can’t wait for Stan’s next off the hook UYE! Hoping this UYE trend continues… who’s next?

I’m thrilled to have been able to attend Stan’s event. –a HUGE thank you to you, again, Stan!
The banquet room, where we were ensconced, was fairly large and very private. I felt like a fancy VIP… :) The top shelf libation a la Stan didn’t hurt to add to that illusion.
The service, the cuisine, the karaōke (ouch, my old-​lady eardrums) and the guests were superlative. It was great to meet other Unilocal-​folk from far and wide. Everyone was super nice!
I am keen to go back to Mango Garden as a regular, old patron and sample the fare downstairs although I suspect the overall experience won’t be able to compete with the ‘wow factor’ of last night.

Stan da Man! You did an AH-​MAZING job with your UYE! This event totally exceeded my expectations!
I was the late arrival but I wasn’t the only one! HAHA! I was second guessing myself coming to this event and after a while I put my big girl pants on and said, «What the heck, I’m going in!» I am SO happy I did!
I would have NEVER thought that Mango Garden had a upstairs private room and to top it off it even had karaōke! Yeah baybee!
I walked into the room and was greeted upon arrival from the amazing Stan and many more Unilocalers that I have spoken to everyday but never met in person! I was so juiced! I even seen many faces that I knew before and new faces!
The management at the restaurant was so nice! The boss of the restaurant Dominick made a great appearance and introduced himself to everyone, going around to make sure everyone was having a great time and was satisfied. Our server for the night Jerry was fantastic and by half way through the night he ended turning into the photographer haha!
Food was DE-​LISH! We event got appetizers and desserts on the house! I was amazed!
Stan was able to receive some great support from the South Bay CM Candice in getting some Unilocal Swagg for our Karaōke night and half way through the night while everyone was on their 3^rd…4^th and 5^th drink the whole room was singing and having a blast!
Opps! I can’t forget the birthday man of the night! Michael!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY MICHEAL and thank you for spending your birthday evening with us Unilocalers at a UYE! There was Shaved Ice cream on the house from the restaurant and we all sang happy birthday just as Michael was walking through the door! IT WAS SUCH A GREAT UYE!
I am so happy with the turnout and definitely thank Stan da man for putting this event on! Its definitely what we needed!
I look forward to many more UYE’s and meeting new Unilocalers along the way!

Anything that gets the Unilocal community together is worth 5 stars in my book. A special thank you to Stan for organizing this event, to Porsche for creating this UYE page (now it feels official!), and to Candice for bringing decorative Unilocal balloons (okay, now it feels REALLY official)! Without any of their hard work, none of us may have actually gotten to know each other at all.
The private room upstairs was both spacious and organized. When I thought I would be the first one there with a friend, I was completely wrong. Stan had already set everything up and kindly introduced us all to one another. We then sat at a table of our choice and began to chow down when more Unilocalers started pouring in through the doors.
Though I wasn’t here for very long, I definitely got to meet a lot of faces and enjoyed the appetizers. I was telling a lot of Unilocalers how I already went to the Mango Garden in Cupertino and explained how their entrees and customer service were on point. Likewise, this Mango Garden had excellent management and servers and brought out food out at a reasonable time while explaining to us which food they are about to serve us. A lot of Asian restaurants just put your entrees down in a hurry and do not bother to tell you what it is, but Mango Garden puts a lot of consideration and care into their customers.
As for the food, I enjoyed all of the appetizers (and got full off of them before the main courses arrived :(), which consisted of Chicken Satay, Roti Canai, and Salty Deep Fried Squid. All were over-​the-​top amazing and I pretty much kept sampling from each plate consistently. Before my friend and I left, I saw the main dishes come in and they smelled amazing! My already-​bloated stomach and eyes yearned for these dishes, but I knew I had to resist.
Anyways, what a great UYE event and I cannot wait for the next one Stan! I already know you have another one coming up soon, heh.
