I really like the way they make their cheesteak sandwiches at this location more than the SF location. For one, the service is way better compared to the guys on Divisadero. Two, the portion of meat and veggies is far better balanced with the right amount of cheese. Three… it is way cleaner!

Good food but the staff really has a bad attitude. Definitely not happy to have customers walk in at 8:40 pm and order. Was strongly advised that it was to go only. If I was the manager I would spend some time training my staff on customer service. It’s a shame that no one cares about service anymore. Good food but bad attitudes abound here. There is a better shop both North and South of here but it means you need to travel.

I was there because that’s what my son wanted to eat for his birthday. Very disappointing the service was terrible. The young man at the register was not helpful at all he saw I was having hard time with the menu and had questions. What he needs is to take a class in communications he mumbles and didn’t speak up. And Messed up our order. Got home missing items no sauce for anything not even ketchup. Then the girl asked if I wanted the«sauce on the side» for my buffalo wings. I thought she meant the dressing who put buffalo wing sauce on the side. I don’t get it. COMMUNICATION I think management needs to retrain there employees in communication with there customers. First time there and last.

Fiancé and I were looking for someplace fast, cheap, and filling to grab grub and this place fit the bill. We had a friendsgiving to prepare for so we just wanted something quick to go. It was a Saturday evening so parking was a little bit of a pain to find. Thankfully blocks are short around here so we found the first empty spot nearby and walked on over. We split the 10″ Classic Philly and scarfing my half left me wanting more. You can add on peppers, both sweet and hot. Hot peppers are indeed HOT. The cheesesteak was everything you would expect, greasy hot goodness and I loved the kick from the hot pepper. Cheese was completely melted and kept it juicy. Transported well on the drive home. The foil wrapper helped to keep it hot. Sandwich wasn’t filled to the brim but that’s why they have a King of Philly option where for a little extra, you get 50% more meet and cheese. They have a stamp card and you have to spend a minimum of $ 8 to even get a stamp and that does not apply to the normal 10″ classic philly which clocks in at $ 7.93 lol. Buy 15 subs and you get one 10″ free. Double stamps on Tuesday.

I’m a regular with their cheese steak mushroom sandwiches and recently tried the chicken mushroom version. Really good also. Great place to eat in — very, very casual environment. I always get take-out though. They’ll even scoop your bread if you want a less bread-y sandwich, I love that! Friendly staff also.

Management needs to reevaluate their staff. Young lady at the cashier tonight was plain rude. Get a job where you don’t have to serve customers, cause you suck at your job!

Me and my friend both agreed that this place has epically delicious food. Both the salads and the sandwiches are delicious. I could see myself working here just too be surrounded by the food. I was very satisfied by both the tasty food and the cleanliness of the place. The customer service was ah okay but the food and cleanliness really stands out. I really didn’t expect much from this place because y’know it just looks like a quick in and out place but it is very refreshing, a definite must try. The bread is very soft, fluffy, and yummy and so is the meat. I am a little picky about my cheese steaks but this place here is very yummy. They have a lot of TV’s and a lot of seats to sit in . There’s a nice view you can see from your seats overlooking downtown San Mateo b street.

Great sandwiches and they almost always have a groupon available. Pricilla is an amazing employee!

multiple locations throughout mostly california… finding one in downtown san mateo 2nd… been to other locations and became a fan, but finding the san mateo location lacking…10 inch order $ 7.93…original with sweet peppers and onions… fresh off the griddle, so waiting few minutes… finding a mouth burning hot steaming sandwich… taking a bite and finding cheesy and meaty, but bit bland… hardly any taste of sweet peppers or onions… wasn’t the familiar zesty sweet pepper and cheesy beef taste from other locations… still a decent sandwich…

I’m surprised that this place isn’t busier. Also, curious why it only has 3.5 stars. People must not like cheesesteaks because these are one of the best that I’ve had.

Went here for the first time today. I ordered a French dip and it wan nothing special. The bread was a little dry and the meat didn’t taste very fresh. The prices are a little high, but not too bad. I probably won’t go back unless I have a coupon or they are having some kind of special.

This place is just phenomenal in general. The food is amazing, the Philly steak sandwich was bomb! The place is super clean, including the restroom(not a lot place do) The service is just outstanding. Free wifi. My team and I go there for call parties because there is a lot of room. The place overall is 5 stars. If you haven’t tried it you are missing out.

Hope they read these reviews: I’ve tried to let them know of the issue both in person and by their website/email. Very simple — — if the music is playing so loud that I can’t hear the order taker and she can’t hear me, it’s too damn loud. And if you have to remake my order because you screwed it up because she can’t hear me… that’s a problem. This is only started in the past month or so. Its not a bar, it’s not a club, its a steak joint.

Went to this spot on a deal from Groupon. Tried it out to get another taste of a Philly Cheese steak instead of the usual place I go. It’s a ok place for a sandwich. But if you don’t get the King of Philly them you just don’t get enough meat on the sandwich. It is somewhat greasy that if you get it to go you better not put your bag the wrong way cause it will leak out of the foil and bag they place it in. I’ve gone to this place a few months back and never got my sandwiches greasy, it may have been something they changed within the past few months or maybe the person who cooks it. I have to say, the curly fries are really good and they have your self serve drinks and condiments around the side of the counter. Oh, and they keep their restrooms super clean!

I just dined at The Cheese Steak Shop today for lunch for the 1st time. I’m not a cheese steak snob by any means, but I have worked in the food and beverage industry long enough to understand the preparation of food. I had the 10″ cheese steak with peppers and mushrooms. I asked about onions, and they only do diced and not a marinated grilled julienne style. That was funny to me since usually either are options, but anyhow I opted not to get any. I ordered the meal, which came with my choice of fries(regular, garlic, Cajun) and a fountain soda. The drink options are good because they have a fountain soda machine with 8 selections, and in addition that have a refrigerator cooler to choose something else like bottles water or Snapple. I went with the Cajun fries, but I wasn’t a fan. There were about a dozen medium sized fries which appeared to be sprinkled with Cajun spices. You can tell the fries are made up real quick with not much emphasis. The customer service was very good. The gal at the register was friendly as it was my 1st ordering to which I told her. Then midway through my meal there was another gal that walked around to the tables asking to see how everyone was doing. Getting 5 stars is almost impossible for any place, and this place was average at best. So, I would have to give them a 3-star rating for my overall experience. If you want a cheese steak experience that is better than this one, I highly suggest going to Jersey Joe’s in Belmont over The Cheese Steak Shop. Thanks for reading.

Nothing amazing here, but if you’re craving a cheese steak and some fries(or other fried goodies), this place will get the job done. The staff is friendly, but ultimately mediocre ingredients beget«just okay» cheesesteaks.

Probably the cleanest cheese steak shop I’ve ever been to but the ones close to me are in Richmond so that’s probably why. If you’ve been to one cheese steak shop you’ve been to them all and that goes for this one too. The exception is the cleanliness and I really enjoyed that from the usual grease and grime feel inside you get at other cheese steak shops. Good place for lunch.

Like others that I’ve read in reviews, I came to cheesesteak shop with some friends for a groupon deal. This is my first time here. I’m a cheesesteak lover! I eat cheesesteaks all the time and I have to say this one is different. Cheesesteaks I’m used to, have great meat. Very thinly sliced ribeye steak or similar cut of meat. Juicy and cheesy. A great example is Jakes steaks in San Francisco. Cheesesteak shops meat was almost like eating ground beef. It was more of a minced meat. I had to take a double look to see if what I was eating was ground beef or steak. It wasn’t bad, it was just different. It tasted good. I had the 10 inch mushroom cheesesteak. I kinda felt like I was eating a sloppy joes sandwich or something. I had steak fries which were yummy. I would go back to try another sandwich. I’ve had better cheesesteaks, and I’ve also had bad ones! This is not a bad cheesesteak. Just different. I like it
