Voice Matters

I have taken about six months of voice lessons from Kay, and the experience was absolutely fantastic.
Kay is very knowledgeable and experienced, and every lesson I had was a great learning experience.
What I appreciated greatly was how Kay teaches and encourages the emotional element of singing, in addition to the technical side.
I felt Kay has deepened my appreciation for songwriting and showed me the exciting and challenging aspect of singing that I had very little experience of.
I encourage anybody who is interested in singing to go to Kay.
I for one, hope to return to her for more instruction in the near future.

Do I have a singing voice? At age 65 for my birthday I started voice lessons with Kay Kleinerman to answer that question. «Yes, you do have a singing voice, you can carry a tune and you are a soprano.» I was amazed. The lessons have been a wonderful gift to me. I learned how to project the voice that I had been hiding for years out of fear of making a mistake. For me lessons with Kay are about learning proper technique, practicing, conquering old fears and having fun. Kay, as a result of her own professional training and years of study, is an excellent teacher who has a very effective teaching style which is structured yet, patient and encouraging. I have had fun learning show tunes and songs from the past and how to incorporate personal feelings into the singing. There’s a lot to singing and I’m thrilled I found Kay to help me find and develop my voice.

I have been taking voice lessons from Kay for about six years and couldn’t be more thankful to have found her! I first began when I was about 15, without having any previous knowledge or training. I only knew I loved to sing. I was so scared going to my first lesson, but that was immediately altered when I walked into her gorgeous home studio and started talking to her. Her warmth and friendliness made me feel so comfortable. After just one lesson, she had introduced me to a whole new part of my voice that I never knew existed.
After several years of practice with Kay, my voice has reached levels I never even thought possible. Aside from technique, she has helped me gain the confidence I need to sing at recitals and auditions. She has helped me prepare for auditions and had lots of advice when applying and planning for college.
I recommend her to anyone who is seriously trying to pursue singing and also to those just looking for a place to sing your heart out and receive some wonderful feedback.

We met via Community Music Center in the Mission, San Francisco and I continued my voice lessons out of Kay’s beautiful home studio in San Mateo.
I have been in touch with her since 2003 and she is great because she is so highly educated and experienced in music: theory, voice, teaching, directing, my talent resume and so on. Her feedback is very helpful!
She taught me how to use my breathe, my palette, my core, storytelling, how to audition for community theater, among connecting me with so many sources that I would not have otherwise discovered without her knowledge and help.
