We enjoyed our visit here today — there is a lot more here to see than I remembered from my years living in LBCH25 years ago. We greatly appreciate the Jangseung at the entrance to the Korean Friendship bell, but we wish there was some interpretive signs there to explain the cultural significance of these make and female protectors of the temple. It’s nice to see how the Korean bell has been preserved and cared for since we left. This always was a lovely thing to come see. Girls enjoyed the WWII gun emplacements and the Nike missile sites. There is more here to see, but regretfully we had to move on.

This place is gorgeous! The views, the history, the Korean Bell, and the army barracks are all the things that make this place unique and worth a visit! You can walk down to the Point Fermin Lighthouse and catch a view of the ocean right below the cliff. Well-maintained area with a rich history.

This little collection of artist studios, a gallery and small classrooms is located at the sight of old army barracks at the southern end of Gaffey Street. It’s an important place for budding artists hone their craft in one of the many inexpensive artist studios for rent there. They offer classes in many different fine and performing art forms to people of all ages. I go there for the uninstructed drop in figure drawing sessions on Tuesday nights and Saturday mornings. The gallery is free to see, and they have an open studio day that is really fun. Check them out on the web for dates and directions, it’s a little tricky to find.

Haven’t been to the cultural center but Angel’s Gate Park is a great place to visit for frrrresh air! The park is spacious, right on the edge of the water. There’s a huge Korean Friendship Bell in the park, many visitors. Really easy to get to – just get off the 110 at Gaffey, go left and keep on going to the end where it curves around to a parking area. /www.sanpedro.com/sp_point/korenbel.htm

Dynamic cultural center. Interesting calendar and great day-trip from LA — and easy, literally at the very end of the 110 South. You can see the Korean Bell where they shot the scene of USUALSUSPECTS at overlooking the Pacific. Stunning views of the San Pedro/Long Beach harbor.
