Bonello’s New York Pizza

Great pizza! Never had a bad meal from them. Their recipe never changes so you know what your gonna get whether it’s a pizza, happy roll, or antipasto salad.

Best pizza in town. Maybe not. Lots of great pizza in Pedro. But this place is my favorite.

Good New York style pizza makes you feel like home service is always good it’s such a tiny little cute spot! Cash only but so worth it!

Bonello’s New York Pizza is a true hole in the wall. That’s ok, some great NY pizza is made in a hole in the wall. When I saw the photos of this place, I thought it looked legit. Sure enough I was right, it is very legit. Which is all you can expect from a SoCal Pizza joint, that is trying to emulate NY pizza in some way. It can’t really be done, which is why I can only give them 4 stars rather than 5. I don’t care if places use bottled water, or what, a NY crust in LA is just unattainable. But this crust is better than most LA attempts, which puts it at average NY pizza crust. The good news is that crust is only ¼th of a pizza, and the other ¾ were pretty darn NY good.
We got a large 16 inch pizza with pepperoni, sausage, mushroom, peppers, and onions. The sauce was a traditional NY tangy tomato sauce with plenty of oregano flavor to it. In the few places that cheese wasn’t covering it, it was nicely baked on the crust. Nothing fancy with the cheese either, just good shredded mozzarella browned in their hot oven. Toppings were very solid as well. Bell peppers (both red and green) were cut thinly as was the red onion and mushrooms. This allowed them to cook nicely on the pie, rather than stay crunchy. Some ovens are too hot and the pie gets cooked before the veggies, so it’s good that they clearly know what they are doing with their oven temperature. The pepperoni supplied just enough authentic NY pepperoni grease that adds so much flavor. The sausage was crumbled and tasty as well. The sprinkling of oregano on the whole pie also brought back traditional NY pizza slice memories. It’s impressive that they do also do a 18 inch extra large, but I wanted to save some room for what they call a Happy Roll, so we stuck with the 16 inch. 4 stars
The Happy Roll — this was outstanding and for some reason, the dough worked better this way as it was cooked on both top and bottom. Perhaps that has something to do with the amount of pepperoni and sausage that was stuffed into this thing. Again that tasty grease has to go somewhere and getting soaked into the dough, isn’t a bad thing at all. The Happy Roll is what they call their Stromboli, pizza dough stuffed with tomato sauce, mozzarella, and your choice of meat, rolled up and baked. Pepperoni and sausage is the perfect combination and thus my recommendation. Also making this better than the pizza was that the sausage was actual links cut into slices. I really prefer my sausage this way rather than crumbled. Perhaps this could be requested on their pizza as well. I would definitely come back for one of these Happy Rolls next time I’m in San Pedro. Of course doing so will lead to quite a few happy rolls around your mid section… Here’s a T-​Shirt idea for Bonellos…“I’m not fat, I just have happy rolls.” 4.5 stars

Found this place on Unilocal while I was working and ended up in San Pedro. Just wanted a slice and looked like authentic New York pizza from the pictures. Came in to give it a try and was greeted by the chef himself asking what I’d like immediately. They have a great deal for 2 slices of cheese and a soda for $ 5.00. Felt super welcome and was very pleased with the quality of the pizza. Great marinara sauce, good quality dough thats obviously made fresh daily and a cool atmosphere. Thanks a lot.

Really good pizza! I’d definitely recommend giving them a try. Prices are decent, quality is good.

OK, 5-​stars on what probably seems like my first visit to my stalkers… I mean «followers» (sorry). Nothing could be further from the truth when it comes to how much experience I have eating this pizza. I discovered this place in November of 2012 while staying in Long Beach and googling pizza joints. I found the flavor of the crust takes me back to my childhood in NYC. I can nearly see the skyline with each bite. Noting that Douglas MacArthur and Eisenhower also had 5-​stars (as generals) but, I have no idea if they could make pizza! :-P
MY EXPERIENCE:
When you have eaten in a place 4 – 5 times, ordered take out several more times, as well as brought people to this pizzeria to dine-​in… Well that speaks volumes. Also note that I would drive 35 – 40 minutes just to relive my past experiences, that were more 3+ years ago. The way I see things it simply means my 5-​stars is b.s. free.
Great job by Charlie (and the pizza factory). Oh and I met Mario as well… Nice people all around!
PS: Great job by the Unilocaler «Amber L» taking photos. Especially the step by step stuff. Go see for yourself! I like her eye for things and I think you will too!

Driving around for a place to eat. We came across this location. Couldn’t be happier with our decision to stop and give it a try. Pizza and spaghetti is what we had. It taste great and the customer service they provide is great as well. Friendly staff.

Read the reviews about how good it was, called and a young man took my order for a torpedo sub $ 8 and a happy roll $ 8 (minimum delivery order is $ 15) I asked if that would be an issue I would gladly order some thing else if I needed to make it worth their while. Guy said no problem at all and said goodbye. 3 minutes later he calls back asking for my address again. Tells manager My address and in the background the manager laughs and basically says «no way in hell, maybe if I ordered $ 50 worth of food but $ 16? Come on!» Great customer service guy. Saved myself the time and went to sorrentos, wayyy better and I wasn’t made to feel like I was cheap or laughed at.
I’ll give them that much, I am not right around the corner, but I am well with in the city which they deliver and within the minimum delivery order amount.

Omg!!! Seriously the best pizza I’ve had ever! You can certainly taste the quality in cheese, meats and dough. Sorry, this can’t be beat!

You want true East Coast pizza? Then paisano, come here!!! These pizzas are THE BEST in town. I don’t know about the shop in Lomita but the San Pedro location is a cute little hole in the wall where love of making people happy thru food lives.

A most delicious pizza pie! Cooked beautifully, toppings on point, crust delicious. What more can I say? Thumbs up!

reminds me of home… This pizza is the real deal, NY or Philly style. HIghly recommend. Whenever i am in the area, I have to go out of my way to get it.

I tried Bonello’s for the first time months ago. I was in a rush and decided to have it delivered, since I was waiting for a repairman and couldn’t leave. You know… the «they will come between 9am and 2pm crap,» so you have to take the whole day off and wait. Thank goodness Bonello’s had delivery. I was anxious to try something different and they delivered in a decent amount of time and the food was good and hot.
This past week, we’ve been twice. The first time we ordered a large pepperoni and sausage pizza and added mushrooms to one half of it. I like how they define the half by marking it with more dough. My kids fought over who was going to get those extra bready pieces. Their dough is perfect; not to thin and not too thick. Their happy rolls are amazing and huge! I made 3 meals out of mine. The customer service is great. I’ve never had a problem. They treat you like family and get to know you as you consistently go in.

Favorite pizza spot in San Pedro. Best place to grab a slice fresh out the oven. Cheese Slices are only $ 2. Happy Rolls are the best (They’re like a calzone). All the sandwiches are made with fresh baked bread that they bake on the spot with their signature dough. I love this place!

Um, yeah… just damn good pizza! The crust is chewy, the sauce is perfection, the topping are on point and fresh, and the cheese pairs perfectly and doesn’t make everything oily.
